Do you ever take fic commissions? There's a particular song that cries Johnlock to me whenever I hear it, and while I don't usually go for straight-up songfic, I can't help but imagine what you (you, in particular) would write if inspired by this one. So,

Hey! I’m really sorry, but I don’t! It has nothing to do with a lack of willingness on my part, but I’ve discovered the hard way that my muses just do not take kindly to direction. I’ve tried, believe! I blame my naturally contrary personality. Every single time I’ve tried to write to a particular request (unless the parameters were EXTREMELY broad), it’s like all of my inspiration dries up and dies. I’m so sorry!! I would if I could, honestly!

I’ll answer this publicly, though - maybe someone else will be intrigued and contact you for the song details, if that’s all right with you? Writers - anyone’s fancy tickled by this?

Scenes without background music; John Watson told Sherlock to “Stand Up Straight”.

LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN MY DRAFTS

John: Stand up straight!
Sherlock: I will stand as gay as I please!

GAHHH

Ahahaha, yay, I love this! Somehow I never heard John saying that particular line! Sherlock is so incredibly flamboyant here. I love it.

What do you...

What do you mean he was dying, Moffat.

I thought it was “surgery”, Moffat.

I thought he wasn’t going to die because Mary is very precise and she shot him so he’d be incapacitated, Moffat.

After S3, Moffat admit in an interview that the whole surgery thing was bullshit: he hoped that people would believe it, but he was aware that wasn’t possible in a scientific/medical way.
So he perfeclty know that the shoot was meant to kill.

Also don’t forget that Moffat cut a small part of Sherlock’s exchange with Mary in the empty house where he points out that she failed to hit the coin in the centre and says, ironically, “well, no one’s perfect” or something like that, which is a strong indication that Mary intended to hit Sherlock directly in he centre of his chest and failed (which certainly would have killed him and indicates her clear intention to have done so). They ALL know that the “surgery” thing was a lie.

Obviously Sherlock was protecting John, because what else does he ever do? Look at the situation: Sherlock knew he was minutes away from his heart giving out. Mary had just been exposed and backed into a corner with the one person she most didn’t want to discover who and what
she really was having just found out and reacting REALLY badly. She was doing
her scary snake eyes, Moriarty head tilt, weird backwards hand thing, and John
was THIS CLOSE to walking out on her. Sherlock couldn’t have done a thing to
protect him from the fall-out, knowing he was about to be put back into the
hospital to have his heart defibrillated and kept there for considerably longer
than he would have if he hadn’t escaped just to set up a safe-ish way for John
to discover the truth. What else could he have done but patch the situation
with a lie like that for the sake of John’s safety? I mean, if I’d seen that face and stance of Mary’s, I’d have assumed that John would not be safe if he’d
furiously told her to go to hell for all of her many, many lies, for having
shot the man he was still mourning, whose grave he was still visiting
regularly, whose loss she KNEW had destroyed him. If I were Sherlock, I would
have assumed that Mary’s priority on doing literally anything to keep John from
having the information he had every right to would have rendered her a danger
once cornered that way. It’s the only reading of this that makes any sense whatsoever.

As John himself would ask, “who else would Sherlock bother protecting?”
