5 Tips to Rise Above Post-Holiday Stress

Taking time off—especially during the holidays—is essential to maintaining our health and well-being. While our bodies catch up on well-deserved rest, our minds also need to unplug and take a break from the constant broadcast of mainstream social media.

But the momentum of the world doesn’t stop just because we do.

After the holidays, we may find it a bit overwhelming getting back into our busy lives and daily responsibilities. And just like diving into a cold pool, plunging headfirst back in...

Blue Christmas? Beat the Holiday Blues

For many, the holidays are a time of celebration and fond memories. For others, the absence of friends and family, the hustle and bustle, or painful memories from years past can create a holiday season of worry, grief, and anxiety.

Even in our moments of joy we might find pockets of melancholy. So how can we best balance the yin and yang of the holiday season?

One solution is to find positive small ways to nudge us towards things that are more joyful than painful—more productive than destruct...

Getting High is Good For You

“Next time, I’m gonna obliterate your world record on the long jump,” I told my buddy as we were leaving one of our favorite hot spots.

It was Wednesday night and we’d just finished another game of Track and Field at Up-Down—a Minneapolis Arcade Bar that features more than 50 video games, pinball machines, and other retro games from the ‘80s and ‘90s. And with the jukebox cranking out retro music to match your vibe, you’d swear you stepped into a time machine.

Playing retro video games while...

Better Balance in 60 Seconds

Conquer Procrastination. Develop a “Do It Now” Mentality

As our lives expand, we seem to be moving faster and faster.

In reality, the longer we live, the more experiences we have to remember—and to forget. Life isn’t speeding up, we are. And sometimes it feels like there are just not enough minutes in the day to get it all done.

With competing priorities and busy agendas, little things—like organizing, cleaning, or following up on an email or phone call—can quickly turn into larger problems. And if left undone, a list of unfinished tasks can create...

Bald Men Don’t Use Hairspray. Do They?

Attending the symphony has always been a treat for me, and it’s even more fun when I go with someone who appreciates classical music as much as I do. My friend Rob is one such person.

For the 25 years I’ve known Rob, he’s been bald—one of those guys whose hair started thinning in high school and mostly disappeared from the top of his head by the time he was in college. But being bald has always suited Rob well and calls attention to his beard nicely.

7 Ways to Claim Yourself from Lost & Found

Feeling lost? Missing yourself? Wondering where you’ve gone?

As life unfolds, we often go on autopilot, forgetting our priorities and intentions. Even as we learn how to let go and “go with the flow,” we may find ourselves suddenly drifting down a choppy river—things are not headed in the direction we’d intended.

Losing course happens easily. Life is always changing, and change brings complexity. It’s easy to lose our way, and sometimes we even lose ourselves in the process.

We lose ourselves...
