I am incredibly honored and thrilled that my story “Good Faith,” which originally appeared in the Cincinnati Review, Issue 9.2, has been named as a Best American Short Story 2013 Notable!

An Alice Munro story is listed right below mine.  I’m going to die.

Parcel’s Three-Year Anniversary and Beecher’s 3

Dear friends, if you are in the Kansas/Missouri area, be sure to attend the three-year anniversary celebration for the beautiful magazine that gave me my very first publication, Parcel.  Contributors will be reading, and there are some fantastic raffle prizes.  Here is the link to the Facebook event.

I hope I can attend myself, but, alas, this weekend is my moving weekend, in which I will be preparing to move on to my next adventure in the great state of Ohio.  I may be too mired down in the frustrating/pride-inducing amount of books I have to move.  I will be jealous of everyone attending if I can’t make it.

Also, the University of Kansas graduate student literary magazine, Beecher’s, for which I was a fiction reader this last year, has just launched its third issue, which you can purchase here.  It’s a gorgeous book, as is Beecher’s M.O., and there are some fantastic pieces inside.

Upcoming Reading

Hey there, friends.  If you’re in the Kansas/Missouri area this Sunday, May 5th, at 6 p.m. please attend this upcoming University of Kansas Graduate Reading Series event at the fabulous and famous The Raven bookstore in Lawrence, Kansas.  Bonuses of this venue: two adorable cats, incredible management/owners, and a collection of vintage BBC mystery posters that is to die for.

“The Bones in Mammal Hall” now appearing in Confrontation

I am very excited to say that my creative nonfiction piece “The Bones in Mammal Hall” is now out in Confrontation 112, Fall 2012.  You can purchase a copy here!

I mean, look at this guy.

The piece is about the University of Iowa’s natural history museum, which is pretty darn surreal (to say the least) and was thus one of my favorite places on campus when I went to school there.  You can see one of the fine specimens to your right.

Also, two friends and colleagues of mine at the University of Kansas have work appearing in the Fall 2012 issue of Parcel: Benjamin D. Cartwright and Phillip Garland.  Their office is across the hall from mine!  Parcel is a great magazine which gave me my very first publication.  Please check out the Fall 2012 issue here.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to update, but I am so pleased to be able to say that issue 9.2 of The Cincinatti Review, in which my story “Good Faith” will appear, will be arriving next week!  You can order a copy by following this link.
