Modern Myth

↳ Maahes

The lion-headed god of war, Maahes is the son of primal creator Ptah and the feline goddess Bast. He is associated not only with war but also with knives, lotuses, and the devouring of captives. Some of Maahes’ titles include Lord of Slaughter and Wielder of the Knife.

Goddess of the Day: October 23

brandiauset:

Branwen - Welsh Goddess of Beauty and Love.  One of the five Goddesses of Avalon, Branwen
translates as white raven, or white breasted.  She is a Maiden Goddess of sovereignty,
springtime, and inspiration.  The
daughter of the sea, Branwen releases mistreated wives from bondage, and
blesses them with a new beginning.  She
is the embodiment of vitality and freedom.
Depicted as a beautiful young woman, Branwen is thought to be Venus, or
the Morning Star.  All birds and the
waxing moon are Her symbols.

(text from Brandi Auset, The Goddess Guide. Art by Brad Kunkle)

There were a pair of crows (don’t have ravens in Chicago, and in the U.S. they are distinct species) that were following me while I wrote I Bring the Fire. They’ve gone now. I kind of miss them.
