COMING SOON: The Three

He needed us. Bad. But before we could be there for him, we had to be born, and that’s no easy thing when your mother’s human and your father’s not. People like us aren’t welcome in the world. Sons of the sons of God. Our fathers were angels. Fallen angels. But for his sake, we were spared.

Shepherd Boy
Mighty Men. Most people know about David & Goliath. Their show-down is one of the most famous kids’ Bible stories, right up there with Noah’s Ark or Jonah & the Whale. Slightly less known are the stories of the men who served directly under David. This elite fighting force were his bodyguard, under the command of Benaiah, whose perspectives we rely on in the Forsaken Sons series.

Benaiah & David
art: Hannah Christenson
For the purposes of my story, these two meet while in their teens, forging a friendship that will last a lifetime.
People don’t know much about us, but that’s okay. We were important for a while. We even made history. It’s right there in the Bible, assuming you know about stuff like that. Most don’t. Crud, even scholars probably couldn’t dredge up our names. But they’re there. And so were we.

Children’s Bible. I did a bit of poking around and discovered that one of the projects I worked on last year has a release date! You could even put it on pre-order if you so desire.

The NIV Incredible Creatures and Creations Holy Bible is my third time contributing to a Bible. The articles are mine, but what’s really going to set this edition apart is the illustrations. I had such fun working with Zondervan/Zonderkidz on this! As soon as I get my author copies, I’ll share pictures!

Forsaken Sons: The Three
Cover Reveal! After an extended hush on this blog, things are suddenly very busy. With all the pieces finally in place, I can finally announce the release date for the first book in the Forsaken Sons trilogy. You won’t have to wait long—May 23, 2018. The Three is Action/Adventure with a biblical setting, appropriate for readers aged 13 and up, which will introduce you to David and his mighty men … back before their heroics were recorded in the Chronicles of the Kings.
A covertly anointed shepherd boy. A trio of half-human mongrels.
And the captain who would lead them into legends.

The Three should start showing up soon in virtual bookstores. I’ll keep you in the loop!

The Three by Christa Kinde (Forsaken Sons, #1)
Benaiah toils in the burial trenches of stinking battlefields to earn enough food to fill his belly. He’s an outsider in the land of Israel, set apart from God’s chosen people by fair skin and eerie eyes. But an angel and a prophet unveil a startling destiny. When he travels with Samuel to anoint a shepherd boy from Bethlehem, Benaiah swears to see David safely to his throne. But not alone.
He must seek out the Three, a trio of warriors whose monstrous strength makes them unstoppable. Clues to their whereabouts have been laced through the lessons of Job. Poetic descriptions of a valley of horses and the storehouses of snow lead Benaiah into the hidden fringes of heaven. But his quest twists into a flight to the finish when whispers of the boys’ existence reach their Fallen fathers.
Authorial Aside. Much like the Threshold Series, the Forsaken Sons trilogy is (upper) middlegrade speculative fiction, but with a historical setting. Those who know the Threshold Series well will be on familiar footing, since the orders of angels remain the same. Some of you may even know more than you think … since I’ve been referencing and alluding to Forsaken Sons for quite a while now. Here’s hoping you enjoy making the connections!

Something New!
While I really do enjoy the whole process of writing, things sure do get exciting when it’s time to share a new adventure with readers. Nearly all the pieces are in place for a book that will release this spring. It’ll kick off a trilogy. Here’s a tiny teaser:
In the Chronicles of the Kings, there are stories of a band of elite warriors. But before their daring feats became legendary, David’s mighty men were teenage boys serving an upstart king. Few knew that eight of them share a secret. They’re the forsaken sons of fallen angels.

Everything can nourish…
“Everything can nourish the writer. The dictionary, a new word, an encounter, a talk on the street, a book, a phrase learned.”
