“Vivetal” (Reassortment, #1) is the first in a series of futuristic sci-fi novellas by author Raeden Zen. This Kindle e-book was a 217 Kb download (approx. 60 printed pages) and was free (normally $0.99 ) at the time of writing this review.

Aleron has been sent back on assignment from the 24th century to the year 2037 to steal some vital data from a facility known as the ‘Quick Complex’. Being an operative he has no knowledge of the contents of this data other than that the information it contains is vital. He is equiped with a versatile alien skin suit and has a high tech communication system to keep him abreast of any unforeseen developments… this latter part is handled by his talented partner (Orianna).
It appears to be match up of 24th century technology versus instrumentation from 2037… should be a piece of cake.

Some thoughts on “Vivetal”…
1.) a short and action packed read
2.) an interesting premise for the story
3.) this short work lives up to the author’s description in the amazon product page…’meant for readers who have an interest in science fiction and fantasy with a touch of chaos’. This would be an accurate statement.
4.) a cliffhanger ending with no possible way out… but remember, this is a series!
5.) a few repetitious words… e.g. ‘pretty voice’ and ‘accordion ramp’
Impressions.
This work, if presented on film, would be reminiscent of a ‘Mission Impossible’ movie… featuring many heroic confrontations along with several unbelievable escapes… that happen to occur just in the nick of time.
The down side of a tale with very little quiet time is that there is little character development… and such is the case here. And while I found that this might be very entertaining as a movie, as a book, I started to become somewhat numb and desensitized to the continuous ‘fight or flight’ scenarios.
I think the author does write well and meets his intended story-telling goals, however this novella may not suit everyone’s tastes. It reminded me of a story geared for a mid-late teen or slightly older audience. At that age I’d have loved this stuff… but unfortunately, those days have long past.
Because it meets the author’s goals… 4 Stars.
My enjoyment factor… 3 Stars
Overall… 3 1/2 Stars.
