Rant of the Day
For those of you who don’t know (probably most of you), I consider myself a fairly moderate person on the political spectrum. (Yes, I’m one of those annoying people who would vote for Al Gore one election, then George W. Bush, then Barack Obama the next.) Anyway, I think because of that I can view these elections with a little bit more objectivity than someone who skews toward one end or the other.
You’ll recall that back on September 13th I said QEternity would ensure two things: (1) an Obama victory and (2) that the inevitable consequences would lead to an epic crash. So as I think about our structural deficit near 10% of annual GDP (very much unsustainable and not likely to change following a status quo election), and my futuristic novel, “Flexon Vale,” I can’t help but feel pity for the President. (And I’m not particularly a fan of him; nor am I of Mr. Romney—shocker!) He seems like a genuinely good person, but the Sovereign Man blog lays it all out for anyone to see why it really didn’t matter who won this election—on our current track he will simply be shuffling the chairs on the deck of the Titanic…
Americans seem to neglect that whoever has Presidency over the United States, directly and indirectly affects the economy of Canada (your closest neighbors to the north). Had Romney got in power, he would have tampered with a few things that directly effect the American Lower and Middle working classes. The consequences on these classes would ultimately affect the production and quality of several industries, businesses and corporations. At the end of the day, after watching each event unfold, you would see a negative impact on international economics and Canadian economics (as Canada is unfortunate enough to have to rely heavily on the American economy).
If Americans were comfortable giving Mr. Obama a 2nd term, they should have given him complete control of Congress and a clear mandate. Otherwise, what’s to suggest the gridlock we’ve had for 2 years won’t continue at a time when our deficits are greater than continental Europe, which is, purportedly, in the “mother of all debt crises?” Instead, we get the status quo, Democratic control of the White House and Senate, and GOP control of the House of Representatives. Already, Mr. Boehner was squawking today that the Prez doesn’t have a mandate. To paraphrase the overly-tanned, emotional, and ineffective House Speaker—If they gave him a mandate why did they elect a GOP House? —I must be completely losing it, because I sort of agree.
