Annual Indulgence

S

Since St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching, it was time for my annual indulgence today. I’ve enjoyed at least one of these high-caloric shakes every year for as long as I can remember.

It may not be good for the diet, but what a great way to beat the winter blues!

So, how about you?

Today in New Hampshire

snowstorm - trafficSnow on top of ice. Backed up traffic. 4 months of winter (feels like 8). Frozen car doors. Wind that almost knocks you over. Slipping and sliding. Headaches and backaches (from shoveling). Snowbanks and, of course, plenty of potholes.

Today in New Hampshire. I’m so ready for Spring!!

Bet You Can’t Eat Just One!

ketchup chipsFound these at Market Basket this weekend. Yes, you’re reading it right–Heinz Ketchup Flavored Potato Chips! They’re not always easy to find and they taste SO GOOD.

I couldn’t pass them by–I had to buy a bag even though I’m still trying to eat healthy and lose some weight. Oh well, I’ll just have to portion them out over time.

Some people crave chocolate. I crave ketchup.

And that’s why I had to include a ketchup-loving character in my first novel in Polyester Pajamas.

Speaking of in Polyester Pajamas, it is currently on the ballot for the Reader’s Choice Award for New Hampshire fiction. Please cast your vote for it if you haven’t already. It’ll only take a minute to do and it’ll mean so much. Thank you!

Midday Snack

mid-afternoon snackI’ve been eating healthy since the beginning of the year and, as a result, I’ve lost at least 10 pounds. Plans are to continue to make good food choices, as well as exercise, so I can continue losing some excess weight, but…

When a co-worker surprised some of us with a special midday snack earlier this week, I couldn’t resist the temptation.

Although I prefer ketchup with my French fries, I have to admit that French fries also taste really good with hot fudge sundaes!

A Fond Memory

Today I came across an obituary in the paper for a person I knew when I was a teenager. I can remember, on a field trip, we walked up a mountain trail together and sat together on the bus going home. He was shorter than me, kind of cute in a boyish sort-of-way, and he liked to talk . . . a lot. The memory is vague since this was over 35 years ago, but I do recall we talked about all sorts of things that day.

Way back then, he was trying to find himself, trying (maybe a little too hard) to fit in and belong.

Just like me.

One day in a life, a few hours, so long ago, and yet, our lives briefly met. We never talked at length again, although I’m sure we passed each other from time to time and said hello. He went to a different school. Our lives went separate ways. That’s the way things happen.

But I remember.

Although it was sad to find out he died recently, I was interested in reading his obituary to find out more about his life. He went on to secondary school after graduating, served time in the Navy, had two children, and enjoyed his job.

He also enjoyed reading, writing and poetry.

Just like me.

I guess I’m sharing these thoughts to convey that every moment, every act, counts. We never know the memories we will hold onto of another.

Or the memories we will leave behind.

SNOWY NEW HAMPSHIRE

snowThis is nothing out of the ordinary–just another snowstorm in New Hampshire today. Yeah, I know it makes a pretty picture here, but we’ve had too many snowy days already. Plus, the driving conditions are awful!

Anyone want to take at guess at when we’ll see the first crocus this year? Or when ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee will be?

(I’m guessing July!)

Little Tree, Big Pot, Recent Interview, and . . .Tissues?

little treeThe little Christmas tree I bought in December and blogged about HERE has been uprooted from its pretty mini ceramic home and transplanted into a larger pot.

I don’t think it’s grown much and it sheds a great deal, but my tiny tree is still very much alive. I’m looking forward to planting it in the yard once the snow goes away and the ground has thawed. With the large amount of snowfall we’ve had this year so far in New Hampshire, though, this may not happen until June or July! I’ll keep you posted.

RECENT INTERVIEW

If you haven’t heard it yet, check out my recent interview with Stanley Bronstein of http://superchangeyourlife.com. While you’re on his site, you’ll also want to find out how he’s committed to helping others empower and improve their lives.

Okay, now onto the tissue subject:

Tissues1DID YOU KNOW?

Were you aware that some tissue boxes signal you when the box is almost empty by changing the color of the tissues inside it? You probably did, but believe it or not, this is something I found out about only last week. And even though I may be one of the last to know, it was an amazing discovery. I just love learning new trivial things! I’m even thinking of having Jean discover it for herself in my next Jean and Rosie series novel being released later this year. (I’m in the process of writing it now.) LOL

Pond Hockey on the Big Lake

There’s plenty of great events that take place on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.

This weekend, it’s the annual pond hockey tournaments in Meredith.

Pond Hockey 1

Find out all about this popular event and view a short video clip of it by visiting the WBZ Boston Channel 4 link below:

If you’re anywhere nearby and looking for something to do this weekend, this is where you should be. Come hungry, too, because there’s plenty of food to choose from. (I always look forward to the grilled sausage and fried dough, but I can’t have it this year because I’m on a diet!)

New Hampshire winters may be long, but we find ways to have fun. Check it out!
