Snow?

Mt WashingtonAfter some miserable rainy weather, temps finally reached 60 degrees in the Lakes Region (NH) later today. It should be nice again tomorrow. Can it really be true? Has warmer weather finally arrived here?

It’s starting to look that way. Ice out on Lake Winnipesaukee has occurred, flowers are blooming, and there’s no snow in sight!

Well, maybe there’s still a little snow in New Hampshire, at least there was a couple of weeks ago.

On Easter Sunday, while traveling through North Conway, my husband took this picture of Mt. Washington.

And as he was taking it, he so rightly said, “It looks better up there than it does down here!”

Absolutely beautiful!

Update: As I was posted this, the rain returned. Darn!

Today’s Inspirational Message

Dare To Be You (via inspiremetoday.com)

Be who you are. Don’t try to mimic anyone else. Be uniquely you, because (and this is quite amazing) there is no one else in this world exactly like you and never will be! If you continue to strive to be someone you’re not, you’ll not only remain…

Good Memories (and another costume)

Easter Bunny

Here’s another Cathy in costume picture for you!

I’ve posted this photo before here, but that was a couple of years ago and most of you probably haven’t seen it yet. Since it’s almost Easter, I’ve decided to share it again.

Now, how many of you can claim to have been the Easter Bunny before?

Well, I CAN!

A long time ago, I was the main attraction at New Hampton’s (NH) annual Easter egg hunt. I was also a teacher’s aide for their community kindergarten at the time.

Rock Star Fun

photo (4)

Having the opportunity to dress up as a rock star for a special event tonight, I decided to be Cyndi Lauper. (It was the perfect choice for me.)

And THIS GIRL knows how to have fun!

Thanks, Lori (Cher), for taking the photo.

Be Happy

The weather’s kind of miserable in New Hampshire today (freezing rain turning to steady rain), so I figure it’s the ideal time to post this photo.

We saw this sign in a store window while walking through Downtown Asheville, NC. I should’ve bought it—it makes me smile—but my husband and I have decided not to purchase any more items until we get rid of some of the unnecessary things we already own. (It’s amazing how much “stuff” can be accumulated over the years. It’s also amazing how little a person really needs to be happy.)

SAM_0017This saying reminds me of my teenage years when I worked at a local Burger King. The restaurant was situated on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and it had a dock area for boats, as well as a little beach area where customers would often feed the ducks French fries.

The restaurant is no longer there, and I don’t even think you can feed ducks anymore because they tend to stick around, especially when it gets too cold for them here, but I can still remember how excited a duck would be when they were lucky enough to snatch a French fry without a seagull swooping down and stealing it away from them. (Okay, so seagulls are also birds, but they usually got more than their share.)

It’s a wonderful memory of such a simple pleasure!

Wishing you all a very Happy Friday and a great upcoming weekend.

A great view and a great deal!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIf you’ve never checked out Travelzoo.com for lodging discounts and deals, you’re missing out. We’ve taken advantage of several of their promotions over the past couple of years and our travels to North Carolina last week included (at least in our opinion) one of their best.

We spent two nights of our vacation at The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort and Spa. It’s located about 30 minutes from Asheville and is surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains on one side and the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Balsam Mountains on the other side.

This Travelzoo deal included the two-night stay, as well as breakfast for both mornings.

The room was simple, but very clean, spacious and quiet. It also included a patio facing the beautiful golf course and mountains.

The breakfast wasn’t your standard breakfast either. It was a large buffet with all sorts of choices. We could also special order eggs, omelets and Belgian waffles. Our waitress, with her southern twang, was the best.

The entire stay there was wonderful and relaxing. And the total cost for everything, including taxes and an extra charge for mountain views (our option), came to only $140!

I’ve included a photo of the view from our room. Pretty impressive, huh?

Wolfe’s Angel

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful (and much needed) vacation in North Carolina. We stayed in and around the Asheville area and, I have to say, it’s a great area to visit. Temps were in the 60s for most of the time we were there – perfect weather for us!

For the next few days, I’ll be sharing some of the photos we took in our travels. Thought I’d start with this one taken in Hendersonville, a beautiful town about 30 miles from Asheville.

(I haven’t read Look Homeward Angel yet. I’ll have to check it out.)

A BIG THANK YOU!!!

IMG_0841

A BIG THANK YOU to all of you who voted for in Polyester Pajamas as the 2013-2014 New Hampshire Readers’ Choice for outstanding work of fiction. I am so grateful for your support. As you can see by the photo above, IT WON!!! Words cannot express how much this means to me and it’s all because of YOU!

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the NH Writers’ Project Literary Awards Ceremony in Manchester this past Saturday because I was vacationing in North Carolina. (It was wonderful to see some green grass and NO SNOW for a while.) However, I was told that over 300 writers, including Jodi Picoult, were there to hear the announcement.

I just returned to NH today and received the email (along with the photo) informing me of the award. What a great Welcome Home it was.

I’m still smiling. :)
