Digby Animation

The really nice and talented animator Michael Whaite sent me this super gif of Digby that he made! He emailed me last year to say that he and his daughter were enjoying Showtime for Billie and Coco, and then recently he sent me this lovely animation! It's exciting for me to see Digby in motion...

Thank you Michael, I really love it!

More comic ideas

I haven't done drawing in panels for a long time, and I'm really enjoying the challenge - it feels like a puzzle, moving things around to make them work - or like putting together a teeny play. And it's good to try new, looser ways of colouring and with thicker outlines, so that the small details don't get lost.
It's also making me think a lot more about perspective and backgrounds - I tend to draw things side-on and leave it there, but I'm thinking more about angles... well, starting to!

This one is set in a weird town, and the main characters are the police, Jessie and Sid.

And I'm making more stories for my desert characters, Bill the pig is appearing a lot, so perhaps he's my favourite...

Digby Dog Saves the Day

I've had some advance copies of my follow up to Digby Dog Delivers - Digby Dog Saves the Day! Deciding delivering was not sufficient, Digby is also coming to his daughter Petal's rescue in this one!
Here are some pics of my favourite bits...
Digby and Petal together again!
Another busy morning at the post depot.
And he's off! Don't cry frog man!

At the park, eating pizza and romantic rowing!
At Orla's Mechanics - my favourite spread to draw, I think! I used to hate drawing cars but they're becoming something I'm quite keen on!
At the gallery - spot the bored teenage lizard!
At the arcade. I'd like to have a go on Zebra X-ing and Worm Guys!
Close up in the arcade - can you defeat The Claw??
Digby Dog Saves the Day is published by Macmillan Children's Books this June.

On the highway to...

As long as it's the turnoff to... HELL!
Oh dear, poor Cat and Rabbit - I think these two are just going to keep getting themselves into rotten situations. In fact, I've left them back in the cinema watching that horror film too... is rescue in store for them??

After the Party

I spent this morning screen printing these tree cats - again I'd managed to leave it longer than intended since the last time I went, so still felt like I was doing a refresher! Three colour cats, hanging out... they are pretty spattered with paint, I'll be selling them in my shop for not much, as they are not pristine... next time I'll nail it!!!

After the Party, 3 colour screen print, signed numbered limited edition.

Plans and ideas

Hello! Happy Friday the 13th everyone - I hope your day is filled with good luck!
In between preparing for Bologna (I'm not going this year sadly - couldn't quite justify it to myself but determined to try again next year!) I've been working on ideas for some young comics. My current fond plan is to pitch something to The Phoenix - wish me luck! I'm thinking of Twin Peaks, Eerie, Indiana style stuff...
I've also been working on another idea for a longer comic in book form.

One thing I have to be strict with myself about is not jumping in to colouring something way too early. I love pencil sketching, but then I get overexcited about how things will look with colour - which is a waste of time at this early stage. I have an idea about how I want this to look in colour, but should spend all my time at the moment figuring out the roughs! I'm beeeeeing PATIENT!
Also I drew a tractor, for Tralalire - Cacahouète, Pouët Pouët and Patatras are on a farm for the June issue. I have to give myself props about this tractor; I'm pretty proud - now I just need to find that tractor-based text that's crying out for an illustrator...
