Hush: Her Best Kept Secrets excerpt

Here's an excerpt from my published poetry book. It highlights the book's balance of flow of consciousness and simple rhyming to create a melodious flow of thought. This is the poem entitled "Headphones":

And this is what it has to be
pictures staring holes through me
drowning out my thoughts
by the music in my headphones
It tells me I"m fine without you
that I don't need you anymore
but I just can't see how that's true
because I feel so unglued
so in love with you
And this guitar won't let me think
it vibrates through me too deep
reminding me of the hollow space
you left in my heart in this glass case
and that fire that lighted in my eyes
has sunk its way down into my stomach
rising up when you open your mouth
I scream but it comes out as a smile
I cry but it comes out as a laugh
you pull me close and I push you away
but it comes out as a passive glance
The light flashes, we're caught on tape
Seemingly so happy, so ignorant
you kiss me, I say I hate you
but it just comes out as an I love you
too bad you don't really know what I mean
let me drown in my thoughts, turn away
I'll turn the music back on
and this is what it has to be
Pictures staring holes through me

My New Work

I am currently working on a novel, with the idea for it stolen from my wonderful and charming boyfriend! It is my take on what if "superheroes" fought vampires and demons? I found this combination great as I LOVE superheroes, fairytales, and things that go bump in the night!

Here's a quick excerpt:

"The end, I always pray for the end though it never comes. Instead I’m surrounded only by darkness, a deep void depriving me of anything good, anything worthwhile in this world. I’m only a number, a warrior put here to take out more of them before they can devour the innocent. Those who I facelessly protect. Those who I can never know, never allow myself to feel anything for. I physically can’t anyways. I have nothing, I am nothing. The last thought as the darkness threatens to consume me."

New to Goodreads

Hello everyone! I am a re-invested writer and have decided to at long last take up my first passion: writing!!!

I have been published in multiple articles for my poetry works. I was published with my very own poetry book at the age of 17!!! Please check out my book at http://www.publishamerica.net/sc/prod... if you're interested to see what my style is. I am hoping to get my book available on Amazon soon!

I have taken an almost 8 year hiatus from writing to pursue my other dream of becoming a therapist. I have a Masters in Professional Counseling and work as a family therapist for troubled adolescents. My work as a therapist has been so fulfilling but I find myself getting drawn back, time and time again, to my first love of writing. Now that I am established, I have decided to get back to the basics and do what I think I was born to do: write! I'll be posting poems, short stories, all while working on my first novel! I appreciate any helpful feedback and of course all the support I can get!
