Book Review of While the Boys are Away by Lucy Felthouse

While the Boys are Away - Three Short Stories of Lesbian Love (Lesbian Erotica)Good Afternoon to all my readers!

This week, I had a sizzler on my TBR list that was a switch-up from what I normally read.   While the Boys are Away, by return author Lucy Felthouse, crossed my fingertips and was the romance novel one very INTERESTING read!  I love Lucy‘s work and this one promises to be a scintillating series of three tales off the normal beaten bath of what I read!  So, while I blush my way through the pages, let me grant you a little insite into this delicious little read:

While the Boys Are Away

On a camping trip with their boyfriends, best friends Amelia and Gemma are having a great time. However, when the boys have trouble lighting the barbeque, the girls decide it’s time to leave them to it and beat a hasty retreat to the shower block. Once there, they take a seriously steamy shower together and become oblivious to everything except the taste of one another.

Beside the Seaside

When Ella meets Candy outside the tattoo parlour, she’s instantly smitten. Candy is cute, confident, and what’s more, she’s recently had her tongue pierced. When Candy suggests that she and Ella should go and grab some fish and chips, Ella is more than happy to go along with the plan and spend more time with her new crush. But it soon becomes apparent that Candy has more on her mind than a good meal – and Ella’s about to get up close and personal with the newly pierced beauty.

The Inner Circle

When Adele spots her good friends Donna and Josie spending time together and being all chummy without her, she’s devastated. After seeing the two women heading into one of their houses together, she’s determined to find out exactly what’s going on. Peering through the front window of the house reveals more than Adele was betting on, and what’s more, she likes it…

MY REVIEW:

Whew! What a hot read! Lucy has written a collection of three delectable short stories that focus on female exploits that occur beneath the covers.  Each story is a glimpse into the lives of the lovely women gracing the pages of WHILE THE BOYS ARE AWAY, and the rousing romance they find in the most unlikely of places.

Steamy, hotter than imaginable, each of the stories is tastefully written and delightfully delicious.  A truly scintillating read, Lucy has managed to create a sumptuous look into lesbian erotica that should grace every freethinking woman’s bedside.

5 Stars!

Whatever happened, today, in that original City of Sin?

In the spirit of "Who's on First?" (Photo credit: twm1340)

I love Hollywood, as many of you may know.  Everything, anything, about the town that grew out of a small farming community simply amazes me.I  don’t know quite what it is that pulls me toward the magic of the place, once considered so immoral and decadent to the world (until Vegas).  When I consider my fascination, it comes down to one thing:  Dreams are born there and magic is made.

The magic is the enduring type, a form that everyone is familiar with all over the world.  How else can we see the wonders of the cinema, from the early days of film, burst forth with the glory of the Golden Era?  Any movie fan would understand, if it weren’t for Hollywood, we would be a less colorful, less informed world.

Today, in Hollywood History, these wonderful events happened:

In 1930,  Richard Donner, director of The Goonies (my favorite kid movie!) was born in New York City.

In 1974, the great Bud Abbott of the ever famous Abbott and Costello team, passed away at 78

Food Friday and what’s on your weekend menu?

There’s a point during the year where I’m tired of the heat and want the cold to come, then the opposite happens during the winter.  The spring season has been beautiful this year, our winter has been minimal, at the heat is a welcome change from the chill.

Besides celebrating my granddaughters (yes, 2 girls!) who have birthdays this weekend, I’m up for making something cool and refreshing for the dinner table.  This particular recipe is one of my family’s favorites:

Shrimp and Crabmeat Salad

2 pound cooked, deveined shrimp

1-pound lump crabmeat

1/2 cup chopped avocado

1/8 cup minced onion

1/2 cup chopped celery

1/2 teaspoon salt

1-teaspoon parsley

1-tablespoon cocktail sauce or hot sauce

1-cup mayonnaise

1-teaspoon lemon or limejuice

1 head of lettuce, washed and shredded into bit size pieces

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together.  Chill for 2 hours, serves about 15 people.

Book Review: Prime Time by Jane Wenham-Jones

I’m excited about the new novel on my reading list this week, a delightful romantic comedy entitled Prime Time.  Prime Time is written by the lovely Jane Wenham-Jones and it promises to be something that will make me smile–and it promises to be filled with characters that many of us can relate to! From the back cover blurb alone, I’m captured and can’t wait to sink into Laura’s life!

Jane Wenham-Jones is the author of four novels and two non-fiction booksWannabe a Writer?  – a humorous look at the trials and tribulations of becoming a scribe and Wannabe a Writer We’ve Heard Of?  – a how-to on PR and self-promotion.  She has also contributed to several short story anthologies and two cookery books, the latter being a particular achievement since she barely knows where the kitchen is.  As a freelance journalist, she has had numerous short stories and articles published in women’s magazines and the national press and is the agony aunt for Writing Magazine.  Jane has appeared on a variety of TV shows – from Ready, Steady, Cook to The Politics Show – and many radio programmes and is regularly booked as an after-dinner speaker.

Find out more about this lovely author at http://www.janewenham-jones.com

Prime Time:

Laura Meredith never imagined herself appearing on TV– she’s too old, too flabby, too downright hormonal, and much too busy holding things together for her son, Stanley, after husband, Daniel, left her for a younger, thinner replacement.

But best friend Charlotte is a determined woman and when Laura is persuaded on to a daytime show to talk about her PMT, everything changes.  Suddenly there’s a camera crew tracking her every move and Laura finds herself an unlikely star.  Wined, dined, and pampered, she begins to see the charms of a younger partner herself.  But as things hot up between her and gorgeous TV director, Cal, they’re going downhill elsewhere.  While Laura’s caught up in a heady whirlwind of beauty treatments, makeovers and glamorous film locations, Charlotte’s husband, Roger, is concealing a guilty secret, Stanley’s got problems at school, work’s piling up, and when Laura turns detective to protect Charlotte’s marriage, things go horribly wrong.

The champagne’s flowing as Laura’s prime time TV debut looks set to be a hit.  But in every month, there’s a Day Ten …

MY REVIEW:

A mother of one, Laura Meredith is having a hard time with 40.  The majority of her midlife crisis can be blamed on her divorce—which wasn’t particularly the most ego bolstering.  Her cheating husband, after years of marriage, traded her in for a younger, sleeker model.

Any woman knows that, once that hill is hit in age, they don’t view themselves as being lean machines that look stunning in a bikini.  Daniel (her soon to be ex) has ruined Laura’s self-esteem and confidence far worse than any midlife crisis ever could.  She’s feeling unattractive, unappreciated, and ready to be placed on the old maid shelf.

Most of all, she doesn’t want the same devastation to befall her friend Charlotte!

Prime Time by Jane Wenham-Jones is a wonder of delicious fun!  The character of Laura suffers through the most flawed of situations, all which are realistic and truly part of a woman’s life in one form or another.

Prime Time is an entertaining read that made me laugh, cringe, and jump for joy for Laura.  Truly a magnificent story for one wanting to sink into a novel that encourages all women to see the beauty within them.

4 ½ stars!

Monday Updates for my readers :)

For those of you that follow my blog, you know I’ve been a wee bit absent as of late.  There’s a reason why I haven’t been around, posting reviews for my favorite novels, and it all has to do with the latest installment of Tears of Blood.

Finally, after a few weeks of intense editing, the last installment of The Blood Chronicles is scheduled to be released April 20!  In celebration, my publisher and I have decided to count up the days until the release with a special treat for my readers that’s just too good to miss.  This special will only run in 24 hour periods and, once the event is over, it’s over…

Starting  Monday, April 16:  Blood of the Beast, will be free;

April 18: Book 2 of The Blood Chronicles, Blood Moon, will be free;

April 21:  An unheard of 1 day special—Book 3 of the paranormal/vampire romance trilogy, Tears of Blood, will be available for free!

Each paranormal romance will be available (for free) for only 24 hours, so don’t forget to pick up a copy :)

A bit of Hollywood History

Cropped screenshot of Charlton Heston from the...

Cropped screenshot of Charlton Heston from the trailer for the film Ben Hur (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Easter is around the corner, and the season wouldn't quite be the same at my home if I didn't squeeze in my favorite flick, Ben Hur.  I don't know why I insist that this film is my 'Easter' staple, right there with the ham and mashed potatoes that symbolize the start of the holiday, but Mr. Heston has always held a special place in my heart.

Filmed in Italy, and using a $15 million budget, Ben Hur was one of the most expensive films ever made up until that point.  The famous chariot race, alone, took over 3 weeks to shoot, and Heston did most of his own stunts.

This week, in 1960, Ben Hur won 11 awards at the Oscars, sweeping the Academy Awards.  To this day, Ben Hur still owns the record for the most amounts of Oscars ever won for a single film, although Titanic and Lord of the Rings have matched it.

Now, for that bit of history that rivals the actual film—

The author, Lew Wallace, was a former general and lawyer who found time to write during his busy schedule.  While scribbling down his ideas for his epic novel,   Wallace served as territorial governor of New Mexico at the time of the Lincoln County Wars.  Since there were so many murders, rapes, and theft, Wallace met and struck up a deal with a certain young man, promising leniency to him if he provided evidence and testimony to aid in the end of the wars.

Wallace didn't keep his promise and, instead, signed the death warrant for the one man that he promised clemency—Billy the Kid.
