Spare Me The Sudden Experts
When the US pulled out of Afghanistan, I was surprised. I was used to us being there, and “leaving” was something always discussed in the future. It came fast.
The news kept coming fast. The Taliban on the move, the invasion of Kabul. Everything was so rapid.
What was even more rapid was watching so many people suddenly become experts on Afghanistan. Social media lit up with opinions and advice and critique and so on. Plenty of people were happy to provide great wisdom that, for some reaso...

Whew, another busy week. Beyond the usual, COVID-19 got several people I know, which has been stressful. I’m now backing off of some social plans during the Delta spike.

Surviving on Projects
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
I regularly complain about how the Pandemic has affected my projects -writing, coding, etc. You, my readers, get a front-row seat to that more than you or I would like. But I must note that having projects kept me sane during the Pandemic.
The Pandemic disrupted everything in our lives. We could not do anything as we once did without the threat of infection. We watched many of our fellow ci...

Tool as Discipline
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
I use several tools to help my writing, from simple spellcheck to ht power of Grammarly. I don’t consider them tools just for finding problems – I think of them as tools for learning. This might be an approach that works for you as well.
English is an odd language, and it’s easy to make mistakes when we’re spelling knife with “k,” and people argue about commas (Oxford always). There are als...

Godzilla Singular Point: Go Big and Go Confident
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Godzilla Singular Point (GSP) starts with a simple idea: What if we did a Ghostbusters/X-files take on Godzilla? That concise summary is the last simple thing about it, resulting in a complicated and glorious take on kaiju.
It’s 2030, and strange happenings are afoot in Japan. Members of the freelance techno-troubleshooters Otaki Factory investigate mysterious music in a mansion. Rising sc...

(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Let’s get a quick update on where I am! And that is exhausted!
It’s been a long two weeks of all sorts of changes, interruptions, distractions, etc. I’ve kept up on things, but just barely and a few things have slipped. Really a perfect storm of just everything. Plus side, I got an air fryer.
Now the update!

The Assurance of the Unknown
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
The last few weeks have been an exercise in admitting I don’t know things. There are futures I can’t predict. There are results I can’t estimate. There are times I’m not sure I can do something.
As you can guess, it’s been a hell of a few weeks.
Yet, we’re taught not to admit our ignorance, or our inability, or our exhaustion. People tell us to be strong, to double down, to forge ahead n...

Priorities and Peace of Mind
(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr. Find out more at my newsletter.)
Regular readers have noticed I’ve slacked off on my blogging the last few weeks. It is with no small irony that I’m blogging about what this taught me.
The short form is between the novel, the Seventh Sanctum rewrite, work, and the current chaos in the world, I am busy and tired. The blog sometimes takes a back seat to other things. My regular two posts a week become one. Sometimes there’s...
