Warning over energy sector tax increase
Some of the UK's biggest gas producers have warned the government that a recent tax increase on the energy industry will accelerate the country's reliance on gas imports and lead to higher bills for households.

Tax rise pits oil industry against Treasury
In February 2007 George Osborne told an audience in Aberdeen that Gordon Brown was "squandering" the UK's North Sea oil and gas assets for short-term financial gain. Mr Osborne, then shadow chancellor, accused Mr Brown of "putting at risk the investment we need, to get the most out of the North Sea".

Huhne defends tax burden on oil and gas
