Book Review: How Do I Decide? Self Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing by Rachelle Gardner

I believe the publishing world has always been confusing and unpredictable for aspiring, new and even well-established authors. Now, with the advent of self-publishing and the thousands of advice-givers clamoring for our attention and business on the internet, it's downright noisy out there.

Addressing an author's need for clear and concise guidance, well-established literary agent Rachelle Gardner of Books and Such Literary Agency has launched a series of field guides for authors. The first,...

A Valentine Memory: The Night my Mother Danced with Lawrence Welk

He made every Lady in the room feel like Lady, and he visited our living room every Saturday night. Each show followed the same format: music from the band, with performances by singers and dancers, and dancers. At the end Mr. Welk joined the dancers on the ballroom floor, where some of the women sported bubble hairstyles in a curious shade of...

Cheating? There's an app for that.

Mr. J and I don’t watch a lot of TV together. Our tastes and interests vary. Sometimes I’ll say, “How can you WATCH that commentator? He’s downright SCARY, with the views he promotes.” Husband just smiles and shrugs, because he usually doesn’t share their views either, but finds some sort of perverse pleasure in occasionally watching them. OK, I can live with that. The one show we do watch together is Shark Tank. For those who aren’t familiar with the show, six highly successful (we are talkin...

Ricky Tsang's Ridiculous: An Autobrainography

Today it's my privilege to review his book and talk with Canadian Ricky Tsang, author of Ricidulous: An Autobrainography

Book Review

Ricky Tsang’s book is a journey into a brilliant mind; the reader will find humor (dark/bawdy and/or hilarious), love, tenderness, truth and fantasy within its pages.
Diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy at age seven, Ric...

Home Alone for Christmas

He will be home alone for Christmas this year. At first he was scheduled to work, and I thought, "Well, OK, he can deliver Christmas babies to happy parents! And enjoy the comraderie of his friends at work. It will make the holiday a good day." Then he learned he would not be working on the 25th. He works the 24th and 26th, though, so he can't  make it home to see us, anyway. . . but there's a package in the mail for him with a stuffed Christmas stocking. I hope he likes it. As well as t...
