Ceramic Cat Dishes

I love finding unique cat items on Etsy, and when I came across these beautiful ceramic cat dishes by an Italian artist, I just had to share them with you.

These little cat trays are listed as “Svuotatasche kitten in raku pottery.” As best as I can tell, svuota tasche tranlates to “empty pockets.” So these trays could be used to  hold keys or coins, or they could brighten up your desk and hold office supplies. I think they’re so beautiful, I’d probably jus...

Remembering Ruby: Ruby and The Lamp Shade

cat_with_lamp_shade

Some days, even almost two years later, I still miss my little girl so much, it feels like she just left me yesterday. I’m grateful I have eight years of Ruby’s Reflections on this site to comfort me and remind me of some of the cute things she did when the pain hits.

We don’t realize how quickly we can forget the small, everyday things after we lose a loved one. It’s one of the many reasons why I encourage people to journal after they lose a cat and write down as many memories as they can. Ca...

Custom Pet Memorial Votives

This is a sponsored post

In addition to her custom pet portraits and other artwork, Bernadette Kazmarski has been crafting and designing unique gift items since childhood. About a decade ago, when she began selling gift items in addition to her portraits at cat shows and other events, she began with versions of the custom crochet items, keepsake boxes and tote bags she’d made for others to stock her table, then moved on to the gift items she saw in stores, like gift bags and tiles and garden f...

How to Care for Your Cat After Surgery

cat-ecollar

The only surgery for most cats, if they’re lucky, will be their spay or neuter surgery, but even these simple procedures require some special care for a few days. For more complex surgeries with longer recovery times bring even greater challenges. Cats may be uncomfortable, experience pain, and their ability to move around freely may need to be temporarily restricted.  Knowing what to expect, and what to watch out for, can make caring for your cat after surgery less stressful for you and help ...

Sunday Quotes: Frustration and Happiness

grey-cat

Lately, I’ve been feeling frustrated a lot more frequently than I like to be, and it’s all because of the seemingly never ending pandemic. I’m frustrated that so many people seem to care so little about how their actions affect everyone else. I’m frustrated with people  who refuse to get vaccinated, refuse to wear masks, or worse, deny that Covid is real. I’m frustrated that if it wasn’t for that, we could be so much further along in being done with this virus that has turned all our lives ups...

Mews and Nips: Walter the Cat Becomes Star of Chevy Commercial

cat-car-dashboard

Did you happen to catch the new Chevy truck commercial featuring a grey tabby cat? Walter the cat became a star in the ad, a spoof on the usual “a man and his truck and his dog” meme that is more commonly used in these types of ads. Walter plays with balls, herds cows, and even fetches a stick. For more about how Walter became a star, visit Musebyclio.com.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Sunday, Siena Lee-Tajiri suggested finding sma...

How Two Cats from Key West Became Literary Scottish Cats

Guest post by Lucy Burdette

If you have read any of the ten previous Key West food critic mysteries, you know that right from the beginning, there have always been cats. In the previous book, The Key Lime Crime, T-bone the ginger cat whom I rescued from Key West SPCA made his debut. He was very proud to be featured on that cover – and annoyed that he didn’t make it onto the new book. (And he also believes that he rescued me, not the other way around.) I trie...

Review: PetFusion Non-Stick Litter Box

This post contains affiliate links*

One of my pet peeves when it comes to litter boxes is that many new litter boxes are designed to either make cleaning the litter box easier, or hide the litter box from view. Neither of these two reasons have anything to do with what cats want or need, and everything to do with human sensibilities.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve turned down a pitch to feature or review yet another “innovative” litter box.  When it comes to litter boxes, simple i...

I previously introduced you to Raphael Vavasseur and his beautiful cat paintings. This French artist has a unique way of capturing cats in all their beauty. I find it impossible to not be moved by his art. His latest series of paintings of a black and white cat hugging, titled Felinoo, Matoo, and Baboo, has been a big hit on Etsy.

Review: Smalls Fresh Food for Cats

smalls-cat-food

This post contains affiliate links*

Cats are obligate carnivores, which means they need meat in their diet to thrive. Their systems aren’t designed to digest carbohydrates. A raw diet is one of the best ways to fulfill cats’ nutritional requirements, but raw food, even a commercially prepared raw diet, may exceed the comfort level for some cat parents. I don’t think it’s necessary to take an “all or nothing” stand when it comes to feline nutrition, but I do believe that it is important to fee...
