Remembering Ruby: That Time When Ruby Went to the Dentist
Allegra has completely recovered from her visit to Animal Dentistry and Oral Surgery – in fact, about 36 hours after having most of her teeth extracted, she acted like nothing ever happened! It’s remarkable how quickly cats bounce back from what I would consider major surgery. Granted, she had some really good pain medication for the first few days, but it still seemed miraculous to me just how quickly she was back to normal.
I couldn’t help but think back to the time when Ruby went to the de...

Petlibro Infinity DIY Customizable Modular Cat Tree
This post is sponsored by Petlibro
There’s no question that cats love to climb. Vertical space in the form of cat trees and cat shelves is critical to providing an enriched environment for indoor cats. This is especially true for multicat households. Cat trees come in an incredible variety of styles, sizes and configurations.
Most cat parents have purchased at least one “failed” cat tree. Maybe it didn’t quite fit in the space you thought it would, and now it’s sitting in a corner your cat doe...

These Websites Can Help You Determine Whether Your Cat is in Pain
Cats are masters at masking pain. Their ability to hide pain goes back to their wild origins. In the wild, a sick animal becomes prey. While acute pain may be more obvious, chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis can be challenging to discern for even the most dedicated cat parent. Even veterinarians often overlook signs of feline pain.
3 in 10 cats suffer from arthritis, but only 7% of cats with arthritis receive treatmentOsteoarthritis is often not diagnosed in cats because it is so ...

Mews and Nips: Do Cats Prefer Warm Food?
When a cat refuses to eat, one suggestion is to slightly warm their food. It’s never a good idea to offer food straight from the refrigerator, and gently warming food not only makes it easier on a cat’s tummy, but can also enhance the food’s smell. Another hypothesis is that warming makes the food resemble “prey temperature.” Dr. Mikel Delgado takes a look at a recent study that explored whether warming a cat’s food increases its appeal. Visit What Your Cat Wants to read more about the study....

Does Your Cat Find Your Scent Comforting?
Conventional wisdom says that providing your cat with an item that smells like you provides comfort in unfamiliar settings. It’s often recommended that cat parents bring a piece of clothing when a cat has to be left at the vet or in any unfamiliar environment. But are cats really comforted by our scent?
A recent study looked at this issue. The research focused on the concept of the Secure Base Effect, which is based on the premise that being with someone you are bonded with can reduce stress a...

Allegra and the Catomic Ball
As every cat parent knows, toys can be hit or miss with our cats, which is why it’s always such a joy when your cat has a toy that she loves so much, she doesn’t want to let it out of her sight. That is the case with Allegra and her Catomic Ball.
The ball was given to us by a dear friend about a year ago, and it’s still one of Allegra’s favorites. She actually doesn’t play all that much with it, but she LOVES this ball. I mean, she LOVES it!
Most days, at some point during the day, she sleeps...

Why You Should Consider Pet Insurance
Could you easily afford to pay $1000 to $3000 if your cat had a sudden medical emergency? Could you cover the cost of a prolonged illness, which can easily run into several thousand dollars? Can you easily pay for your cat’s annual or bi-annual exam, preventive lab work, and dental cleaning? Costs for routine exams vary depending on location, and can range anywhere from $50 to $150. A routine dentistry can cost $500; add in a few extractions or other problems, and you’re looking at $1500 and m...
