Support Fellow Authors

In the grand scheme of things, yes; you are in competition with the vast amount of authors across the globe. However, I think it is important to realize that you must also support one another. Creating a network to support fellow authors is beneficial for a variety of reasons. You can learn what seems to work and what doesn’t work through experience, and also bounce ideas off one another. You can root each other on; sometimes a simple good for you or congratulations is all you need to boost your self esteem when you think nobody out there cares about all the hard work and sacrifice you went through to finally publish your book. Most of all, having a network can be one of the best ways to market yourself through word of mouth. Thus the saying “I’ll scratch your back, if you scratch mine”!

Goodreads

As I continue my quest to market Altered – Revelations of the Evolved, I have finally joined Goodreads; the largest site for readers, book recommendations and authors. It is a place to list your favorite books, suggest books to friends and organize “bookshelves”. Like any new website, it will take me a bit to understand the operation of it all but I am looking forward to it! I’m sure in no time I will posting and uploading stuff just as I do to facebook, twitter and pinterest. Maybe I should create a website to organize all my websites…….:)

Hmmm….it only took a few minutes to add my Goodreads widget located at the bottom of my blog….I’m getting the hang of all this technology.

Possible Cover

It only seems fitting that I also work on a cover for Broken – Afflictions of the Evolved since I am up to Chapter Eight. There is just something so satisfying about telling a story involving characters you love!

Why I Write

As a little girl I loved to read and write short stories. In high school I became lazy, still got good grades, but spent my time socializing instead of writing. Okay, maybe lazy isn’t the word. Maybe being a teenager is more accurate. Thinking back, I was still a story teller – but with my voice – rather than on paper. As an adult, my priorities have changed somewhat. I try to balance family and work, but just like everyone else, I need some time for ME. No, I deserve time for me and my hobbies. Yes, unfortunately at this early stage, I consider my writing a hobby. Maybe in the future it will become a combination of work and a hobby, but right now it doesn’t pay the bills! To me, writing provides entertainment not just for the person writing but also for the person reading. There is always a beginning, middle and end………but I have the power to change them as I see fit. I write because the possibilities are endless.

Marketing

When I first started writing Altered – Revelations of the Evolved, I couldn’t wait to finish it. I knew it would have to be edited and eventually published to reach my goal. But what I didn’t think about at the time was the amount of marketing that goes with getting published. Now I am constantly thinking of new ways to get my book “out there”. I already had my facebook account, added a facebook page, and more recently signed up for a twitter account. Of course I started my blog and have now signed up for Technorati. I am still waiting to get on Pinterest. Every day I dream about being “magically discovered” but then reality sets in………there is no magic pill to marketing. Only persistence, and thankfully I have a lot of that!

Friday’s Featured Novel – Lost Child – Anguish in the Nantahala

This story will make your blood boil. At first I was hesitant to read it as I have children of my own and I just didn’t want to think about how this could happen to my own family. But as I read it, I just had to find out what happened next.

“When nine year-old Abby disappears during a family rafting adventure on the Nantahala River it affects each member of the Carter family differently. Fundamentally a story about the lengths to which a father will go in search for his missing child, Lost Child (Volume One) – Anguish in the Nantahala, does not disappoint.

After reading it you will want to read Lost Child (Volume TwoI) – Retribution in the Nantahala (Due to be released in April, 2012). These first two books in the Lost Child series are 50,000(+) words each and are best enjoyed in sequence.

By the end of Lost child (Volume One), Anguish, you will have experienced some of the anguish, the uncertainty and the deep sense of loss her Father, Hank Carter, has gone through.

You cannot fail to be involved. ”

This book contains mature adult themes.

Friday’s Featured Novel – The Hunger Games

I decided that Friday will be my featured novel day. As I just finished reading this trilogy, this week I am featuring The Hunger Games.

Description at Amazon.com:

“In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV.

One boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and sixteen are selected by lottery to play. The winner brings riches and favor tohis or her district. But that is nothing compared to what the Capitol wins: one more year of fearful compliance with its rule. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her impoverished district in the Games.

But Katniss has been close to dead before — and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.”

I finally watched the movie after I read the books and LOVED IT!!!!!!!
