Book Snatch: Interview & Giveaway for Shawnda Currie

Hi everyone,

Please check out my interview and giveaway with Book Snatch:

http://booksnatch.blogspot.ca/2013/04/interview-giveaway-shawnda-currie.html

It was so much fun answering questions like “The weirdest thing you’ve ever done?”

My family and I have a twisted sense of humour and laugh at basically everything so I have a hard time determining exactly what is considered weird anymore. I do enjoy making Halloween costumes for my children and myself each year. I dress up at work and even wear it when I’m out trick or treating with my kids. Some of these costumes include Dog the Bounty Hunter, Buzz Lightyear, Charlie Sheen and Spock. Normal is boring. I say embrace your oddball behavior!

Some people might think my costumes are weird but I think it’s so much fun and that’s what counts.

Be sure to check out the rest of the interview and enter for the giveaway! While you’re there, you should follow the Book Snatch blog. Good luck! :)

Choices – Complications of the Evolved Update

I have been actively approaching book bloggers to review the first book of The Evolved Trilogy: Altered – Revelations of the Evolved.

Create Space Altered

Both the paperback and ebook version are available on amazon.

Broken – Afflictions of the Evolved is currently only available as an ebook. I’m happy to say that I expect my proof copies in a few weeks, and after a few beta readers provide me with suggestions, I will have the polished and final product available shortly after that.

broken number 5

The final book in the series is Choices – Complications of the Evolved.

I am about 1/3 of the way through the first draft. I know how it’s going to fit together, I just need to get it down on paper. I am also waiting for nicer weather as I have the perfect picture in mind for the cover. As soon as it is created, I will share it with you all.

Then the trilogy will be finished….but don’t worry, I have another idea for a series involving travel to parallel worlds. Yep, I have many more books inside of me!

Beautiful Creatures Series

My obsession with Beautiful Creatures started at the beginning of the first book.

The main character’s POV is from teenager Ethan Wate who can’t wait to leave his small hometown of Gatlin. That is until he has strange dreams involving a girl he has never met and they rattle his boring existence. One day Lena Duchannes shows up at school and is not welcomed by the snobby classmates. They’re actually quite cruel. Ethan is drawn to Lena and she lets him in on her secret of being a Caster (fancy word for witch). There are so many twists and turns in this book that it was hard to put it down. After I finished it, I ran out to purchase the remaining books in the series.

I don’t want to give away the plot by discussing the other books, but if you like suspense, mystery and not always a happy ending, then I highly recommend these books.

Beautiful Creatures: http://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Creatures-ebook/dp/B008CJ23A6

Beautiful Darkness: http://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Darkness-Creatures-ebook/dp/B003UBTX6S

Beautiful Chaos: http://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Chaos-Creatures-ebook/dp/B005FI2EA6

Beautiful Redemption: http://www.amazon.com/Beautiful-Redemption-Creatures-ebook/dp/B007OYGR2U

Just in case it isn’t your cup of tea, buy the first book and make your decision from there.

Review of #2 Altered- Revelations Of The Evolved by Shawnda Currie

This book is seriously worth getting but I can’t get it here due to numerous reason. (Like I’m in the Asia Pacific so its not available.)  = (Its sad to see that Lacey is practically abandoned by her family and friends.

Her dad is an ass but its beautiful to see Lacey become a much stronger person. The story line is SUPERB and I have put Shawnda Currie into my favourite author list.

There’s tension and excitement in the story.

And….there’s love~

*sigh*And they went to Las Vegas!

*sigh*And *sigh*

This story is amazing.

“5 HEARTS” or “5 STARS” or “2 Thumbs Up”Sincerely and Truthfully,

Selina.

Shawnda Currie – Altered: Revelations of the Evolved – Author Interview

Author Interview

1. How did you come up with the title?

The main storyline is about the recruitment of sixteen year old Lacey, with the hope that she is the key to prevent a large scale event in order to “change” the outcome of the future. Originally I had the one word title “Altered” but at the urging of my publisher, added the subtitle “Revelations of the Evolved” in order to have more tag words.

2. Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

The primary theme is that even when current situations seem bleak, we all have a purpose in life and a reason for our existence. Secondary themes include; overcoming grief, trusting your instincts, teamwork, believing in yourself and the power of love.

3. How much of the book is realistic?

Very little of the book is realistic. Taylor is a time traveller sent back to enlist the help of Lacey, a girl with amazing psychic abilities, that she doesn’t even know exists.

4. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your book?

I am quite happy with the way the book turned out, however, if I had to do it all over again I would go into greater detail about certain characters. I would also add more dialogue and dwell deeper into the subconscious of Lacey.

5. What was the hardest part of writing your book?

As I work full time in the military and have a family, finding the time to actually write the book was the hardest. I carried around a notepad and often jotted down ideas as they came to me. Sometimes I would write paragraphs while attending my son’s ball hockey games (in between his shifts of course). It was also difficult to come up with plausible explanations in regards to the mechanisms of time travel.

6. Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I learned that it is a beautiful thing to see your book come together; start, middle and end. The countless hours spent tweaking things was all worth it to come up with a final product that I am very proud of.

7. Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

English was always my favorite subject in school. I used to tell my friends that I was going to write a book one day. I’m not getting any younger, so finally a few years ago I came up with a storyline and started putting pen to paper. Now I’ve written two books and am half way through the third. I will never stop writing!

8. Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

My favorite author is Alyson Noël. It started with the first book of the immortals series, “Evermore.” Now I’m hooked on her “the soul seekers” series. She just has a way of stringing words and phrases together plus her storylines keep my interest. Her books are real page turners.

9. Tell us your latest news.

Well, I currently live in Ontario, Canada. My husband is also in the military. We move every three years or so (we’ve lived in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Manitoba). This summer we are going to move once again to British Columbia which is very exciting. The mountains are beautiful. I look forward to taking some pictures that might be used for covers of future books.

10. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers?

I have always considered myself as an entertainer. Usually I’m the class clown and laugh at anything and everything. Through my writing, I hope to entertain my readers. Even if only a handful enjoy my book then it was all worth it! I would like to thank my readers for their support. It warms my heart when I receive feedback on my blog or Shawnda Currie Books facebook page.

About the Book

As she meets Taylor’s group of friends, she discovers that they’re more than they seem – they’ve been sent from the future to head off an evil corporate plot that will lead toa world war unless averted. No More Sitting on the Sidelines

Well, I did it. I stopped making excuses about stepping up to the next level. “I’ll start marketing after the third book” or “I just don’t have time to contact reviewers” were just a couple of thoughts that swirled around in my mind. But guess what? You have to make time. So that’s exactly what I did. I spent over fourteen hours checking out blogs and contacting reviewers. I am happy to report that a handful have agreed to read my book and review it on their blog, amazon and most likely Goodreads. One person read it right away and already posted her review on both amazon and Goodreads. I also have a stack of paperback copies ready to mail out. I will MAKE THE TIME to send them out tomorrow during my lunch break. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping they enjoy my novel and their reviews will help spread the word about my trilogy. I even went on animoto.com and made two new book trailers. After all, nobody else is going to market my book for me.
