Quote of the Week

“The time will come when diligent research over long periods will bring to light things which now lie hidden. A single lifetime, even though entirely devoted to the sky, would not be enough for the investigation of so vast a subject... And so this knowledge will be unfolded only through long successive ages. There will come a time when our descendants will be amazed that we did not know things that are so plain to them... Many discoveries are reserved for ages still to come, when memory of us will have been effaced.”
- Seneca, 1st-century Roman Stoic philosopher

A Trinitarian Doxology

Praise to you,O God the Father, for you created all thingsby your power and wisdom, and so loved the worldthat you gave your Sonto be our Savior.
Praise to you,O God the Son,for you were made fully human, like us in every respectexcept without sin,and you were delivered up for our trespassesand raised again for our justification.
Praise to you,O God the Holy Spirit, for you guide us into all truth, and pour God’s love into our hearts.
All praise and glory to you, O God,Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for ever and ever.Amen.

The Evangeliad (29:7-11)

(Click here for an introduction and previous installments of the Evangeliad)
Section 29:7-11 (corresponding to Matt. 19:28-30, Mark 10:29-31, Luke 18:29-30)
And Jesus responded, "Truly I tell you,At the end of the age, when all is made new,And the Son of Man reigns in glorious light,And reigning, judges the nations aright--
You twelve will also sit on twelve thrones,Yes, judge all the tribes from thrones of your own--For anybody who has left aught for meWill gain back a hundredfold eternally--
A hundred more families, houses, and fields,If any, to follow me, you've had to yield. In your hands unending life will be cast; The last will be first, and the first will be last."

Quote of the Week

"A writer who says that there are no truths, or that all truth is ‘merely relative,’ is asking you not to believe him. So don’t.”

A Prayer from the Translators of the Geneva Bible

O Gracious God and most merciful Father,Who has vouchsafed usThe rich and precious jewel of thy holy Word:Assist us with thy Spirit,That it may be written in our heartsTo our everlasting comfort:To reform us,To renew us according to thine own image,To build us up into the perfect building of thy Christ,And to increase us in all heavenly virtues.Grant this, O heavenly Father,For the same Jesus Christ’s sake.Amen.

The Evangeliad (29:4-6)

(Click here for an introduction and previous installments of the Evangeliad)
Section 29:4-6 (corresponding to Mark 10:26-28; Matt. 19:25-27; Luke 18:26-28)
The disciples were startled and asked themselves,"What hope do we have of saving ourselves? If the highest among us cannot be saved,Who, then, can enter through heaven's gate?"
But Jesus, he looked intently at them:"It cannot be done by merit of men;In mankind's strength it is impossible,But all things for God are possible."
And Peter replied, "What about us, Lord? For us, your disciples, what lies in store? For all we had is now lost to our view;We left it behind to come follow you!"
