Maybe the Afterlife Is Our Real Life

Maybe the Afterlife Is Our Real Life
By Israfel Sivad

They hadn’t seen one another in a while. It was through no fault of their own. Too much had been going on. Stuart and his wife, Alison, were in their car on the way over to visit Gabe and Erin who lived in Southeast DC with their newborn baby girl, Shay. Stuart and Alison hadn’t met Shay yet. She was already three months old. The two couples were close. Stuart and Gabe had been friends for a few years, but the two couples hadn’t had a chan...

The Flame of Desire

The Flame of Desire
By Israfel Sivad

Desire is a never-ending flame,
burning as a torrent within our souls.
Its fire engulfs us all eternally.
Its divine creativity births worlds.

Living within these flames of desire,
we never completely control ourselves.
We’re mere subjects to the vicissitudes
of the devouring fires of emptiness.
We’re mere objects to be disposed of by
drives that we’ll never consciously perceive.
Our minds are nothing in the wake of
desire, still burning, forever consumin...

Review – We Are The Underground: Poems by Israfel Sivad

A lovely short review of my newest collection of poetry, We Are the Underground, from Examining the Odd.

I would love to meet Israfel Sivad one day, although he lives in America, I’m in the UK… I think we’d have a lot of things to chat about over a glass of something. I find that a lot of poetry doesn’t speak to me because it’s too emotional. This book, We Are The Underground, is a rare find where the poetry can be enjoyed as art, not just feelings put in to words. Each pie...

A Silence Exists

A Silence Exists

A silence exists
            behind the world
to be broken by
            crashes I never

experienced before.

The silent sounds fade
            away from me now,
replaced by a hum,
            an electric note

burning beneath my brain.

Thoughts encounter you
            here. They unveil
a buzzing voice deep
            underneath the tones

I expect to receive.

Music thumps through my
            mind, remolds my skull
around the shape of noise
            still unexperience...

One & the Many – Forms

Israfel Sivad’s newest collaboration.

Based in Washington, DC, One & the Many began as an artistic collaboration between two friends, musician Frank Stewart and poet Israfel Sivad. With Stewart writing music and Sivad providing lyrics for Stewart to sing, the duo enlisted the skills of fellow musicians Dempsey Hamilton on drums and Bill Freeman on bass. Stewart played the remaining instruments to complete One & the Many’s debut album, Forms. Produced by Stewart and mastered by Anthony Lourde...

Interview with Author Israfel Sivad (December 2018)

Check out my newest interview with Author Anthony Avina:

Author Anthony Avina's Blog

1)For any newcomers to my blog, tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into writing?

Well, the truth is I’ve pretty much always written. After my parents split up when I was in fifth grade, I started writing myself to sleep at night. I did that all through middle school. I wrote lyrics based on all the song structures in the liner notes to the heavy metal tapes I owned. In high school, I turn...

Of Dragons and Unicorns

Of Dragons and Unicorns
By Israfel Sivad

I imagine we knew one another
in a life long passed, a dream I shared
once upon a time with only myself.
Though, now, you’ve shared it with me…

As I sat alone in that diner
all those many years ago
mourning everything I believed
I’d lost, I never imagined you
were real in time, in space. But
now, you’re here. In love

with me who has become one with you.

For, you were there that day in spirit.
Though, I never could have known
at the time. Every poem I...
