Interview with Bryce from BRYCE (Galactic Defenders) by Jessica E. Subject
I’ve got guest author Jessica E. Subject here, sharing a character interview from her si-fi romance Bryce. Welcome, Jessica.
_

Here is an interview with Bryce, the hero from BRYCE. This takes place right after he travels to Earth to hunt the Erebus and finds the only woman he’s ever loved. He sent her to a safe house, and has just finished hunting down all the Erebus in the area.
Jessica: Hello, Bryce. Thank you for speaking with us today.
Bryce: Cosmos! How did you get in here? Where is Pollux with the cleanup crew? You’re going to need a memory wipe.
Jessica: Don’t you worry about me. I already know all about the Erebus. Though, I’m curious what they were doing on Earth. Have they ever been spotted this far from the Alliance territory before?
Bryce: No. This is the first time. We thought we had them under control for once, but now they’re spreading, traveling farther and farther away.
Jessica: How do you feel about this?
Bryce: I’m worried. There are many more galaxies in this area of the universe that have no idea that there is life beyond their own planet. That makes for a much more dangerous situation. Not only do we have to hunt the Erebus, but we have to make sure the species that live there aren’t away of them or us. Speaking of which, where is Pollux?
Jessica: Wait! I’m not a threat. I want to ask about Lindsay now. Or, I guess you know her as Princess Lalia.
Bryce: I don’t want to talk about her right now.
Jessica: Why not? Didn’t the two of you have a relationship? I heard you told other Defenders that you loved her. That’s not usual for someone from Kalara.
Bryce: How do you know so much? Yes, we had a relationship, and it ended when she left Hemera. I had no idea she came here, and she obviously loved someone else, and had a child with them.
Jessica: Do you think there is a chance you could get together again?
Bryce: I’m not sure why she’d want me. She’s lived here for years without making any attempt to contact the Alliance. Plus, when I did find her, I was so distracted at seeing her again that I let an Erebus kill the man she loved here.
Jessica: But, what if you did have a chance? Do you still have feelings for her?
Bryce: I was distracted at seeing her again, so obviously I do. I did love her, but even if I did have a chance to be with her again... Cosmos! I don’t know. [looks behind me] Pollux, there you are. I need a memory wipe here right away.
Jessica: I get it. I’m outta here. [runs for the door]
____

A dedicated Defender…

BLURB:
Abandoned by her parents…
Born on Earth, Nixie was left on the planet Schedar when her parents returned home. Growing up on the pleasure planet, she follows in the footsteps of the woman who raised her, and learns the art of erotic massage. But Nixie yearns for a different life, one where she receives as much pleasure as she gives.
A runaway prince…
In an attempt to escape his arranged marriage, Prince Mekai flees to Schedar. For, he could never love his betrothed when he already loves another, a fantasy woman who invades his dreams every night. When the woman he seeks carnal pleasure from turns out to be the same one in his fantasies, he believes fate brought them together.
Fated lovers or forever enemies?
Just when Nixie and Mekai believe they have a chance at happiness with each other, they find out why their races are at war, and why they can never be together.
Please note: Beyond Reach was previously published with another publisher. It has been revised into a darker story than the original, and expanded to give the hero and heroine a harder, but much more satisfying happily ever after.

EXCERPT:
Walking into the silky rear-end of an uidiss, she came to an abrupt halt. The creature had been walking at a steady pace and then stopped. She’d failed to notice in time. Wiping fluff off her face, she turned around and walked into another hard body. “I’m so sorry.”
Hands clamped down on her arms. “Are you all right?”
She stared up into deep brown eyes. Chewing her bottom lip, she nodded. If this man hadn’t been holding on to her, she would have fallen to the ground. The word swoon held no meaning for her until now.
Am I only like this because of the ipsum I inhaled back home? Or was there something more she found heart-racing about the blue-skinned, well-muscled hunk of an Ubetron who held her up?
No, she couldn’t feel anything for him. Their races had been sworn enemies for years. Everyone across the galaxy knew that. Yet here she was, standing face to face, gazing intently at him, with no will to move.
He smiled at her, drawing her attention from his eyes to his lips. How would they taste? She’d never kissed anyone intimately before.
“You look familiar. What’s your name?”
Name? Gods, what was her name? “Ni…Nixie.” Had she told him, or only thought the word?
He released her arms to brush his fingers along her jaw line. How she remained standing, she had no idea.
“Nixie. A beautiful name belonging to a beautiful woman. Have we met before?”
Moisture pooled between her thighs. Her cheeks warmed. “Thank you, but no.” She’d definitely remember meeting him.
As he trailed a hand down her arm, she sighed. Her entire body tingled from his gentle touch.
“Okay, weird. You must remind me of someone else. Now tell me, why were you in such a rush that you walked into the rear end of that slow-moving beast? We’re supposed to be on vacation, enjoying all this planet has to offer.”
Laughing at his description of the uidiss, she leaned against his arm. Never before had she enjoyed a man’s attention like this. “I’m not visiting. I live here. Have my whole life.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Really? So, what was it like growing up on the pleasure planet?”

Inspiration for It Took a Zombie Apocalypse by Jessica E. Subject
It started with a dream.... Yes, I’m serious. I was binge watching some zombie shows on Netflix then started dreaming about zombies. There were several of them. Two dreams have stuck with me, and one was enough to develop into a story. A story that demanded to be written, as I ended up with writer’s block as I tried to write the one I wanted to. Needless to say, this story was written first.
Aside from my dream, I also gained some inspiration from the zombie shows and movies I watched. The three that inspired me the most were World War Z, Z Nation, and The Walking Dead. I know there are plenty of others out there, and I’ve seen a few others, but those three stuck with me the most while I wrote It Took a Zombie Apocalypse.
I have to say the world events going on at the time also provided some inspiration. So, you may read some scenes in the story that are reflections of world events and situations. It truly is amazing what will light an idea in my mind, but these are the inspiration behind It Took a Zombie Apocalypse.

Blurb: It started with a kiss.
Then the zombies came. Now, Missy must work with the neighbor her parents hate if she wants to survive. But zombies aren't the only threat to her life, or her heart.

RJ pressed on the text and read….
Contagion arrived from Ostrander.
Spread through the hospital.
Stay in bunker.
I’m infected.
Zombies
Zombies? He dropped his phone and stared at it on the floor, expecting it to explode. Zombies didn’t exist. He was in some kind of dream. Had to be. Missy actually had come home for the summer. And kissed him. Now, zombies.
“What is it?” Missy bent down to pick up his cell then handed it back to him. “What happened back at the park?”
“Zombies.” The word came out before he had a chance to stop it. He didn’t know whether to laugh or grab Missy again and run.
A crooked smile formed dimples in her cheeks. “You’re joking, right? Trying to help me laugh off what happened.”
“I wish.” He showed her the message from his father. “My dad doesn’t have a sense of humor.”
The phone beeped, and she pushed his hand away. “I think it needs to be charged. We should call him just to be sure. Or contact somebody. Maybe he meant something else. You know how stupid autocorrect can be.”
RJ rushed to the kitchen, found his charger, and plugged in the cell. But, by then, he’d lost signal. Reception was spotty in West Vitula, but he couldn’t get anything. He peeked through the doorway, out to the living room. “Missy, can you get a signal?”
After digging into her purse, she pulled out her phone with a pink, sparkly case. Not at all what he expected from her. Had he missed that girly side, or had someone given it to her, and she didn’t want to hurt their feelings? That he could understand.
She held the cell up and moved around the room. “I got nothing. What’s going on?”
“I don’t know. Maybe we should try outside?” Though he doubted it would make a difference.
Missy stepped over to window and shoved the curtains aside. “Um, there are people coming. And they don’t…look right.”
RJ glanced outside. Neighbors walked down the middle of the street, their bodies twitching. And no one stopped to talk to one another. They just kept marching along to some unknown destination. As they came closer, he noticed their tattered clothing, their disheveled hair, and limbs connected at odd angles to the rest of their body, as if they’d been trampled. And now they were up and walking.

Your library simply needs a subscription to Hoopla, and you log in with your library card number. You’ll find most of my books on Hoopla, as you can see below, as well as lots of my author friends. Click on the covers to be taken to the book page. Be sure to ask your local library if they have the Hoopla app and enjoy adding to your TBR list!
