Nancy grew up along the Mississippi River in the sleepy little town of Winona, Minnesota, where her father was a professional photographer and her mother owned a Christian Book Store. In 1973, she studied at Northwestern Bible College in St. Paul and in 1976, moved to California to attend Biola University as a Communications/ Journalism major.

Nancy married Ron Anderson in the summer of 1978 and they settled into their tiny California bungalow. Nancy worked for a Christian record company where she was the editor of their company newsletter and worked in the public relations department.

In the 1980s and 90s, Nancy worked for Nordstrom where she was an award winning sales consultant and the commentator/coordinator for many of their fashion show
