Goodbye Poldark!

Poldark has come to an end. We left Ross and Demelza sharing a passionate embrace as a spectacular expanse of ocean glinted in the background. These weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster for viewers of the BBC series as our charismatic couple were plunged into one disastrous event after another. And now we must all wait until next year to discover what happens next. The end of the current ten week series reminded me that I have not posted on ... Read More

Poldark Series Two – Get Ready!

HE’S BACK! Poldark fans prepare to book your place on the sofa in front of the TV. Our favourite Cornish heart throb, Captain Ross Poldark, is getting ready to saddle up and gallop across those Cornish moors again, his dark curls streaking out behind as a ship in full sail battles with the tossing sea in the background. OK, that was a spot of dramatic license, but you get the picture. The important news is Series Two of the BBC’s ... Read More

Memories of a TV Detective

I have wanted to visit this village since it appeared in a scene from Case Histories. Remember that wonderful BBC crime series featuring Kate Atkinson’s Edinburgh detective Jackson Brodie? I became a crime writer because I love great detective stories, mysteries and thrillers, and Kate’s books are amongst the best.   …But back to South Queensferry. The little houses were still there in their elevated position above the cobbled street just as they were in Case Histories – and the ... Read More

Three Romances for Mother’s Day – and they’re *Free*

We’ve been celebrating Mother’s Day in the UK since the 1600s. It’s rather comforting to know that we have been publically loving and cherishing the special person who is Mum for as long as this. Here we traditionally treat our mothers with gifts of flowers, boxes of chocs, maybe breakfast in bed, or Sunday lunch in a nice restaurant. Other counties have different ideas about the tradition. In Spain the celebration happens on December 8, where Mother’s Day is a ... Read More

Eight Top Tips To Stay Organised!

This is a ‘list’ post. You may have noticed I love my lists. There’s my ‘to do’ list, which I jot down daily and systematically work through. Everything doesn’t always get done, and the things that don’t are simply put on the next day’s list. There’s my characters’ list – one that’s always on the go, and constantly being added to when I’m writing. And then there is the list of things I need to research, and the list of ... Read More

Inspiration for a Novel

It happened years ago when we were sailing up the beautiful River Fal in Cornwall. A bend in the river, and suddenly there it was – an exquisite white house sitting high on the bank. Immediately my writer’s mind was whirring. I could imagine the vast airy rooms inside it, the high vaulted ceilings…the people who lived there. The woman would be an artist and her work would hang everywhere in the house. The man would be a rich Cornish ... Read More
