Buy My E-Book! (Or at least review it)

Cavern of Babel (The Buttersby Chronicles) Hello all! It gives me great pleasure to announce that I have successfully created an eBook. For those of you who don't know, I wrote what is likely the world's only alpaca fantasy novel about four years ago. Filled with adventure, talking alpacas, prophetic mice and caverns of doom. A book that Kirkus Discoveries called "a cute, well-written and suspenseful animal-adventure story" and "a charming, enjoyable read."

What in the world would inspire me to write an alpaca fantasy novel? Well, th...

Adventures in Craigslisting

[image error] The wife and I want to redo our kitchen at some point in the future. (Some no doubt distant point in the future.) Since we're in an old farmhouse, I really don't want to have a bunch of built-in cabinets all over the kitchen. As I've thought about it, I thought I'd much rather some free standing hutches and hoosiers to round out the storage situation. They seem more period appropriate, they're cooler looking, and they're cheaper, if you play your cards right.

Enter Craigslist.

I've been sco...

Why I'm Busy Right Now

Rat Race : Widescreen Edition Yet again, no time today for me to give you a quality blog post? Why not, you ask? Well, let me tell you. In the last three days I have:

Moved 46 boxes of new computers from one building to another
Taught 3 classes in addition to my normal library duties (8 hours of class time, plus prep.)
Worked for 16 hours on a Top Secret Project I hope to be able to unveil tomorrow. That's personal hours, not work hours, since it's a personal project.
Prepped for another 2 hour class I'm teaching...

Rocket Road Trip

I wanted to take a minute to promote the web comic done by a couple of friends of mine: Rocket Road Trip. It tells the zany adventures of Ace Rocketfuel and friends. They often have cool pop culture references, tying in everything from Star Wars to Bruce Campbell to John Scalzi. There's a new episode every Monday. Add 'em to your RSS feed.

Who are the creators? Well, you've got Isaac Stewart, a friend of mine who was in my writing group in Utah and is now in my Skype writing group. He does t...

Movie Review: Inception

Inception (Before I get into this, I wanted to mention I wrote a fairly lengthy post on Saturday on a topic I felt strongly enough to write a fairly lengthy post about it on a Saturday. If you're a parent, might I suggest you read it?)

Look! A movie review for a film I actually saw almost on opening night. Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? On the good thing side, it's possible some of you haven't seen this movie yet, and my review might mean something to you on a "Should I spend a lot of money to...

Parents: Please Read! (RE: Jessi Slaughter)

Okay, folks. It's Saturday, but I'm making a rare blog post because I have some things to say to parents, and I want to make sure I've got them down on paper while my thoughts are still fresh.

First question: have you heard about Jessi Slaughter? I hadn't until about a half hour ago, but I've been doing some quick reading since then. I would link to the sites, but frankly, I haven't found one yet that doesn't have really objectionable material on it, so I'm not going to. I'll give you a rund...

New Spice: BYU's Library Spot

The Old Spice towel guy seems to be all the rage these days, and BYU's library has jumped on the bandwagon.

Now, for those of you who don't know, I used to work at the Harold B Lee Library--BYU's library. I was in the periodicals department (it's the room shown in the movie where the guy gets out of the elevator). It was my first experience with working in a library, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Actually, the only reason I thought about getting that job was because my sister was already em...

LinkedIn Surveys

Six Degrees of Separation I have no idea how I got on the magic list, but somehow, LinkedIn has started asking my input for surveys. Typically I'm not a big survey taker. They're kind of a pain, and sometimes they take longer than I want them to. However, I'm always very excited when LinkedIn sends me an invite to a survey. Why? Because they give me a $15 gift certificate to Amazon or a $15 PayPal deposit when I finish the survey. I've done this twice so far, giving me a grand total of $30. Nice.

How can you get on t...

Please Amazon Responsibly

Wall Street Howdy, faithful readers. It's me--your friendly, movie-and-media-loving blogger, Bryce. Today I'm here with a very special announcement. Look over on the right of my blog. See that little Amazon search box? (Well, assuming you haven't blocked ads on my site. If you have unblock them. Just for me. :-) ) Anyway. That little search box lets you search Amazon from my blog. I know--not really shocking. But you know what's cooler? If you enter Amazon through that little search box, then end up buyi...
