George A. Romero King of the Dead
When I think of zombies I think of George A Romero and his Dead movies. My dad let me watch the original Night of the Living Dead when I was little. I had this weird love of them every since. They scare me. It’s like riding a roller coaster. You know you are going to be frightened, screaming, and ready to do it all over again when its over. I think it’s the concept. They are human, but dead, but were human, yet… You get it. The rest of the blog is very heavy with video so keep reading!
I will say that I actually like the 90’s color remake a little more then the original. I like strong women, and well the original Barbara is too mousy for me. The new one gets over the shock that the dead are eating people and saves herself. In those situations you have to realize that sometimes the only person you can really trust is yourself while everyone panics around you in their own ways.
I am not one of the Original Dawn of the Dead fans either. To me the story was boring and slow. I took my little sister and her friend to see the remake in theaters with the running zombies. Which I liked a lot, not the running zombies. Regular slow zombies, hey I have a chance, running zombies I might as well lay down with an all you can eat buffet sign over me.
My favorite of the Dead films hands down is Day of the Dead.
You had a more stronger female character, you see the world a few months after this outbreak that killed most of the world. As far as they know they start thinking maybe they are the last people on earth. You have the crazy doctor who teaches you a bit more about the zombie’s as well as Bub!!
George A Romero took a break for a while, and then came back in 2005 to bring us Land of the Dead. You either loved it or hated it. I loved it, my mom thought it was funny when we went and saw it in the theater. This one brought you some famous faces that you have seen. The world has been taken over by the zombies, and humans live in a walled in city. Where the rich live in luxury while the poor gets to struggle down below.
In 2007 Romero brought us Diary of the Dead. A bunch of college kids are making a movie, which happens on the night of the outbreak. So he is taking us back to the start, and they end up making a documentary of this weird outbreak. It was scary and I liked the new view of the beginning of the end.
Survival of the Dead came out in 2009 and was about a group of soldiers looking to escape the zombies and come across an island. But on the island their is a family feud going on. One family wants to destroy all the dead, while the other is holding on for a cure. The soldiers end up getting involved.
So what is your favorite Dead movie?

A Short Story from Author Toy Davis
Dull Little World
Zenarce sat in heaven and looked down on the new world God had created. It was a world that thrived with life. It had plant life, animal life and the newly created human life, but even with all that life it was a dull little word.
Zenarce rested his chin on his balled fist. “Hmmm,” he thought with disappointment. “It Is such a sad little place.”
The creation of the world had been rushed, no more than six days. God had not taken the time to give it color, life yes, but not color. Heaven was filled with color, beautiful and vivid. Even hell had the color of blood and flames but this new world; Earth, was just made up of white, black and greys.
He shook his head. He did not agree with the bleakness of it. “Why didn’t he make it with color?”
“Why do you not add it?” Michael, the archangel, asked.
Zenarce looked at him. Unlike Zenarce, Michael had large wings and worn armor. He was one of God’s most loyal soldiers. “Because God will not like me doing that.”
“God will not notice,” he confided. “Lucifer has rebelled and we are now bound for war.”
“Lucifer,” he repeated; stunned by the revelation. “But he was God’s first son.”
“Yes, yes,” he waved his hand. He didn’t like to be reminded that his brother had been created before him. “That is why God will not notice. When Lucifer rebelled, being his first son, he took a lot of angels wit0h him.”
Zenarce said nothing has Michael said his goodbyes and rushed off. Alone, he thought of what his brother had said. Perhaps he could do it himself. The Earth needed color, how else were the humans going to learn what beauty was. Without beauty the world would not know compassion, and a creature without compassion was not a creature worthy of life.
A sense of duty filled Zenarce. He grabbed his paints and brushes, and went to Earth. Hidden in the shadows, out of the view of the humans, he painted the world. He made sure to paint every gain of said, but getting every strand of fur was a bit harder so there were strands left white. The sunsets and sunrises were the only clue to his feelings and existence, everything else was painted while the world wasn’t looking.

Scariest Horror Movie Moment
We all have them. That one scene in a scary movie that scares the crap out of you, and makes you remember that movie.
Here are just a few of mine: (Spoliers)
Nightmare on Elm Street when Freddy comes down the ally with his arms long.
When Candyman comes out at the end.
Return of the Living Dead Tarman zombie “More brains!”
The Descent when they turn on the camera in the dark and see the monster thing.
All of Inside.

The Middle of the End…
More snippet of Island of the Zombie King
Before the island, when the world went to hell, it was a nice spring day. In the Central Valley, clear spring days followed rainy days. The buds on the flowers grew bigger, ready to open. The tree leaves were small and green, dripping left over rain. Small puddles of water on the streets and sidewalks waited for the sun to finish drying them. No one had time to enjoy that spring day or the days that followed.
Martial law had been declared. Sheer panic made people run from the freshly awakened dead, giving them more flesh and fueling the spread of the virus. . Rumors said virus; it could have been a government mishap, terrorists, even aliens, no one knew for sure.
That spring day, Kiley sat against the tiled wall behind the counter of the burger joint where she worked in the mall. She could hear people screaming, arguing, and crying all around her. She looked over her knees at a little girl with dark pigtails screaming for her mom. Her own sadness paralyzed her in her place.
Silent sobs turned into chest heaving ones. All she could think of was her brother. She hit her head against the wall over and over again. Why hadn’t she kept hold of his hand? She had no one to comfort her, no one to help with the pain and guilt that ate at her.
Shane spotted her and sat down. “You’re going to hurt yourself,” he whispered. She stopped and quickly wiped her eyes. She looked at him, noticing the hollowness in his own.
She took a deep breath, and let it out, unsteady. “You okay?” she asked as she relaxed her legs in front of her. She made cringed as the pins and needles settled in.
He shook his head. “What the hell just happened?”
She shook her own head. “If only I knew.”
Donner spotted them and came over, sitting down with them. “It’s a mad house in here. Glad to see some people I know.”
“Hey, Don,” Shane said, and Kiley nodded to him.
“You two okay?”
“As okay as we can be,” she said.
He and Shane nodded. Joseph walked by and stopped, looking at the three of them on the ground. “Well, look at this,” he said and sat down with them. “You three are the only people I’ve seen that I know.” Joe was one of Kiley’s managers.
“Hey, Joe,” Shane said. “You think I can get some Coke?”
“Sure, go help yourself. Put a nozzle on,” he said. Shane gave him a blank look.
Kiley got to her feet. “I’ll help you.” She slid over the counter easily.
Shane followed, looking around. “I feel like I’m breaking and entering.”
She dumped the red bucket full of sanitizer and the soda machine nozzles into the soda machine grate. She took a white filter and put in the lemonade/water, and then the main nozzle. She held down the water button, letting the water run for a few seconds. She then took another white filter and held it under the water. When it was clean, she stuck it in the Coke. She cleaned the little black nozzle and tried to put it on, but it just wouldn’t go. It was too slippery.
“Grab me a napkin,” she said to Shane.
Shane turned and looked around the counter. He found a stack of them by the plastic ketchup container and handed her one. She used it to put the nozzle on. “Okay. It’s all ready.”
“Great,” he said, grabbing a cup and filling it.
“Fill me up a cup too,” Donner said.
“Okay,” Shane said. Joseph scooted over the counter. He opened the small fridge and pulled out a chocolate milk.
“Is it good?” Kiley said as she scooted her butt onto the counter and sat.
“Expires in three days.”
“What would it take to get some food going?” Donner asked. “I’m pretty hungry.”
Joseph checked his pockets. “I don’t have my keys.”
Kiley bent forward. “Check the keyboard.”
He pulled out the computer keyboard and sure enough, the store keys were there. “How did you know?”
She shrugged. “You guys get lazy, and Melanie forgets her keys all the time.”
Joseph looked at the keys then up at the camera in the back. He looked at Kiley as she sat on the counter.
“You’re thinking too much,” she said. She knew he was. She had worked with him for three years.
He shook the keys. “I guess we can get some food cooked.” And that kept them from thinking of the undead and the army fighting outside the mall. They would occasionally stop and look toward the glass doors when an explosion caused the place to vibrate, but they tried their best to keep busy.
****
The screaming went on. Ben pawed through the group of shocked people. They had to have made it, he thought. Ben moved through the auditorium. They just had to have made it. He looked at hundreds of people moving from one side to the other. He looked at the kids. He wasn’t there. Where could he be? He had been by their apartment. No one home. He walked to the stage. As one of the firemen in charge of this area, he looked over the list of names of all the people who had signed in. No, she hadn’t made it there. He went to the emergency phone and called the other base.
After some convincing, Ben finally got the list read to him. They were there. He felt relieved. Now he had to get to his son. He slipped out of the auditorium and broke into a car. He’d had a record when he was younger but had changed his life when he found out he was going to be a dad. Now his son was all he could think of. One of the undead walked out into the street before him, and had just enough time to turn around before he ran it over.
It had taken him more than an hour to get to the other safe house and had seen the smoke before the building even came into sight. Ben hoped it was something else, but it wasn’t. He didn’t even turn the engine off before he got out of the car. Looking around in time to see a few of the undead coming for him, he took out his pistol and shot them each in the head. He couldn’t make it to the door. There were too many of them, and the screaming from inside seemed to drive them into a frenzy.
He disappeared to the side of the warehouse. All the small windows were at the top, and thick grey smoke rolled out of them. He made it to the backdoor, having to kill six zombies to get there. He tried the doors, but they wouldn’t budge. He heard screaming from inside. The people were jamming the door. They were pushing against it when the door opened their way.
“Get back!” he shouted. “Step back from the door! You have to get away from the door!” He screamed until he was hoarse. No help came to put out the fire. He couldn’t think clearly. He looked around for something to help. The smell of burnt flesh filled the air along with the screams. He tried to get in, tried to make a makeshift ladder to climb to a window, but it didn’t work. He tried the doors again, but it was too late. The fire had reached them. He could see the smoke coming out from under the door and felt the heat. He stayed there as the fire ate the walls and the screams faded.
He fell to his knees, crying. He was a fireman, yet he could do nothing. A zombie came toward him and for a second, he didn’t care. But in the end, he used his pistol to kill it. He watched the flames eat at the top of the building. Maybe they had gotten out earlier. Maybe they were in one of the cars he had passed. Maybe they were transported to another shelter. Maybe . . .
He knew he had to get away. The fire was drawing more of the undead. Soon the place would be filled with them. He needed shelter. He needed to find a place to think. Maybe they had gotten away. Maybe . . .

Island of the Zombie King Chapter 1!
A World of Decay. . .
Hungry and in need of fresh water, a young man is driven from the safety of his apartment. He snuck out, the sun making him shade his eyes briefly. He hadn’t been outside in over three weeks. The sun felt nice on his skin. He hadn’t seen one of the undead in over four days. He hoped they were all gone as he walked. The air was heavy with old trash and other stenches that mingled with the salty air. Today he was finally going to get out of the virus-infested city. He had walked along all day, lost in thought, then there it was; he came to the bridge, red and shiny. Behind him, he heard the moans. Had he heard them earlier?
He turned. His cotton candy pink hair flapped in the coastal wind, and his nose filled with the stench of the dead. There they were. All of his optimism bottomed out. A large group of men, women, and children slunk after him. Their skin was no longer living, instead, torn, ripped in colors of off-blue and varying shades of green. The bites or wounds that had caused them to become a member of the dead clearly showed beneath the clear sky. He did the only thing he could think of. He started to run. He ran to the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge, stopping suddenly.
In front of him was another horde of the undead. He was trapped. There would be no way to fight his way out of this mess. He was dead no matter what. He went to the edge of the bridge and looked over at the rough waves below. He had two choices for how he would die … he climbed over the edge. The moans of the undead got louder as they got closer. He closed his eyes and said a small prayer of forgiveness. His hands let go of the railing, and he fell, his eyes still closed tight.
There was no life flashing before his eyes or a bright light at the end of the tunnel. Blackness. The rough saltwater waves ate at him, tossing and turning his body. Once the body was face up, his eyes stared at the sky now clouding over as the coastal fog rolled in. Something darkened in them, a small spark. His mouth opened, filling with saltwater. All memories of who he was were gone. He was now one of them, craving flesh. The water sucked him under. He could no longer swim, and as his body moved slowly toward the shore, the ocean current pulled it back out.
****
A woman screamed. The high pitched shriek filled the empty city, echoing off the abandoned buildings. New York, once filled with people and noise, lay in ruin and smelled of death. The undead walked the streets, moving toward the scream. She thought her plan could work, but it hadn’t. There were just too many of them. Her screams died off as the zombies pulled away pieces of her to feed their insatiable need. Blood covered the streets and windows of the empty storefronts, and moans filled the air as the sun started to set.
****
The world was now silent. The dead bodies of millions lay strewn across the globe. The undead waited for signs of life and movement. They waited to feed. They walked around in the north as the winter clouds threatened snow. They continued to walk around in the south where the government had dropped a bomb, hoping to stop them. The dead owned the world. No more fighting based on religion or race. Beautiful wonders left with no one to appreciate them. An entire race, the human race, was extinct. The world had been left to the undead to crumble and rot just like them.
