Social idealism and romance, always a volatile mixture, intersect with a controversial protest movement when a misunderstood young heroine falls in love with the wrong man. Numbed by a bad decision Holly must try to regain the love and respect of her family and learn to live with a life altering poor choice.
Layered and nuanced, All People's Lives Matter is clear and concise enough, but at times opaque.

All People's Lives Matter

All People's Lives Matter

A transcendent story that follows a gritty, intelligent young suburban woman's determination to live life on her own terms. Holly sacrifices everything to live up to her family's legacy of helping the downtrodden. Tragedy however lurks in the shadows when she finds her way into--and ultimately collides--with a controversial protest movement. Holly's hygienic ideas are shattered when she exposes the hypocrisies of a unscrupulous but powerful protest organizer.

I am skeptical of books with vague protest titles however All People Lives Matter deals with a young upper-class idealist who, after being excoriated by the leader of a controversial protest movement panics and run away with an inveterate narcissist who cannot understand or acknowledge his flaws.
There is little more that I can add except that this is an amazingly beautiful story. Holly is exquisitely imagined, the atmosphere is evocative. I'll be forever influenced by this enormously powerful novel. Amazon Review

A magnificent and compelling social novel with an epic sweep. All People Lives Matter is a story that can be compared to a beautiful mosaic. There are several different trajectories--some going up while others down. BN Review

All People Lives Matter

Excerpt from All People Lives Matter

As the piano died down, Mrs. Moles stood up and made a cage with her hands. She paced back and forth quietly. I could almost feel her thoughts turn over in her head as she paced; she seemed so completely possessed. Her thoughts were like a chick was trying to peck its way out of a shell. Her thoughts wanted expression. They were intense and demanding. Suddenly, she halted near the podium and wiped her glasses, and said, “I had to be strong and determined to get here. I had to wait, suffer, plan and fail. I had to play the girl!” Vehemently she paused, and then continued on in a hoarse voice, “My hair has turned gray and my eyes have weakened chasing the goal of justice for all. One gets old fighting for what they believe in. We are up against a stubborn, ruthless system of injustice.”

"One of the most powerful and superbly composed novels I’ve read, it captured my heart and mind equally from beginning to the mesmerizing intense heart-wrenching conclusion." --BN review

All People Lives Matter

All People Lives Matter

Based on a true story of courage, steadfastness and heartbreak.

From the author of Strange Fruit, a beautiful, symphony of a novel about youthful idealism, motherhood, disillusionment and social justice. All People Lives Matter is a richly detailed vignette, that rubs away at the luster of social activism and explores how life can call back those who are furthest adrift.
The female narrator on the cusp of young adulthood is Holly, a biology student at the university, and her parents are successful executives. It only seems logical, at first that she should volunteer at an organization that promises hope and social change, contributing her time to an altruistic venture. But her idealism is about to change, and is portended by others who pinpoint her future successes and failures in a nut shell: "You're young, a rabid idealist, impressionable, stupid and going to change the world with your over-powering hope and youthful enthusiasm. The movement is better off with your naiveté, it's a fifth wheel to a truck. You'll jump in with both feet and boldly change the world. Pity you!"

The process of a young idealist's disillusionment with her world is a painful one, convincingly and creatively explored...."

Strange Fruit amazon reveiw

Amazon customer review of Strange Furit

After reading this collection of beautiful stories by Billy McCoy, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed the writing. I found myself relating to many of the characters throughout the book and loved that I could do so in the first place. The book takes you on a journey with a central theme of love. The idea that the smallest decisions that we make can have such a profound impact on our future is what I love seeing in this book. I also liked that the relationships developed in this book weren't forced or that there wasn't any insta-love relationships throughout the book. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a good read on a rainy day or if you can relate to any of the main characters, as stated in the book's inside flap. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any more future publishing's from this author.

Strange Fruit a novel

"McCoy largely succeeds in delivering on his assumed premise: that love is an unpredictable and volatile force of nature."--INDIE READER

Strange Fruit is an eclectic collection of novellas. In story after story McCoy pinpoints the moment a person’s life is forever changed by love, a decision made or not made, or a simple twist of fate. His characters are flawed and fully human: In one story--All People Lives Matter-- a richly detailed vignette, that rubs away at the luster of social activism, explores how life can call back those who are furthest adrift.

Illumined by McCoy’s unflinching insight, these lives and others draw us in with their quiet depth and surprise us with their unexpected turn of events.

Revised edition: This edition of Strange Fruit includes editorial revisions.

All People Lives Matter

All People Lives Matter, a novel.[book:All People Lives Matter|28091301

An immense achievement,
searing and beautifully written. McCoy relies on the potency of his story-telling to maintain the interest of his readers. He writes about the slow process by which love, if powerful enough, may prevail. All People Lives Matter tells the heart wrenching story of a young idealistic social crusader name Holly Lundgren. - Donna Braun, Barnes and Noble Review
