Hi, everyone! I want to thank Rob for inviting me to the blog. Curiosity Killed Shaney is my first published novel and I am thrilled to share this story with all of you.

This blog tour got huge fast! There are awesome prizes to that will be given away at the end of the tour. At the end of this post, you will find a link to enter!  Check in at www.jcwallacebooks.com for links to all of the blogs in the tour and you can enter as much as you like!

Today my best friend, Raine O’Tierney talks about fanart she drew for Curiosity Killed Shaney and how it went bad. Then I will give my rebuttal! Take it away, Raine!

Thanks, JC. Awesome confession: I started my career in FANDOM. I still consider myself a HUGE fangirl! I used to write fanfiction with my mother when I was in middle school, I would draw fanart when I should have been paying attention in class (total Rocketshipper right here!), and there was even a time when I was the SFX translator for a group of yaoi fan scanlators! Hecks yeah. :) Fans ROCK. Fans keep the world turning.

It’s always been my dream to receive fanart for my own stories. And as such, I like to draw fanart for other people! I’m not amazing at it, I admit—but I’m passionate so I keep on trying!

It seemed perfectly natural as a *~*~MASSIVE FANGIRL OF ALL THINGS JC WALLACE~*~* that I would create a bit of fanart for this incredibly talented (and lovely!) author.

Little did I know that my whole concept of fanart was about to be turned upside down.

Now, I’ve drawn a lot of fanart for a lot of things. Things you’d be like… huh? Lots of Team Rocket kissy pictures, Mishima Kazuhiko and Sanami Matoh fanart, Toe Jam and Earl fanart (hecks yeah!), Nightmare Before Christmas, I even drew Jolene from Dolly Parton’s Jolene! And the one thing all these works had in common: the original creator never came back at my young self and said, “Um, Raine… that doesn’t quite look right.”

And then I drew Shaney.

Shaney is the oft-curious MC of JC Wallace’s forthcoming title Curiosity Killed Shaney—a fun, sexy story about a man whose curiosity gets him into hot water…a lot. I love the story, so why wouldn’t I draw the characters?

BECAUSE JC WALLACE IS THE MOST DEMANDING RECIPIENT OF FAN ART ON THE PLANET.

I had to redraw the picture five times. FIVE. TIMES.FIVE! TIMES!

Dolly Parton never made me redraw Jolene!

I’ll admit though, once I FINALLY got the work to JC’s demanding specifications (*coughs* TYRANT! *coughs*) it did feel like I’d accomplished something real and right and good. So let it be a warning to all who would tread this path: if you love Mr. Wallace’s books enough to draw for him? Do it in secret. In a bunker. Underground. Unless you have a high tolerance for pain! ^_~

*MWAH!*

Raine O’Tierney

JC’s Rebuttal (or saving face…whatever you want to call it)

Okay. First off, fanart? I had no clue what the heck that term meant. Although from the words fan art I should have been able to figure that one out. I am pretty smart, sometimes. Fanart definition (provided by Raine of course): Art drawn by fans depicting how THEY see a character. Oops! Apparently, not how I see the character. Okay, I am now up to speed. Promise. Really.

Now, while Raine freely throws out words like “tyrant” and “demanding” and the causer of “pain”, most people save those words for use behind my back (I’m sure my staff have more harsher terms to add to that list as well). To my face, I tend to be called “picky” and “bossy” and a “perfectionist” by those near and dear to me in my life (i.e., my mother and sister, hmph!). This is a cross I must bear because, damn it, I’ve earned these titles! So what is my point?

I LOVE my fans and anything they do for me, be it, nice comments, constructive feedback, or (ahem!) fan art. No need to hide in a bunker or underground or anything drastic because I know Raine means nothing but good old fun with our blogging today because she calls me “The Demanding Overlord of Awesome!” Hey, all I see there is “awesome.”

And her fan art is totally rockin’! I mean look at that awesome pic of Shaney!! Nailed it!

Tomorrow, I will be at letting everyone know more about me. Hope to see you there!

Blurb: Shaney’s curiosity is always getting him into trouble, including stumbling into a ritualistic circle and being imbued with an energy that will eventually tear him apart. He soon finds out that Hudson, a man he cares for deeply, might be responsible for his misfortune. Add in the betrayal by his best friend Todd and the desire of a demented occultist named Silas to control the energy inside of him and there seems to be no way out. Can Shaney find a way to rid his body of the nefarious energy before he dies a horrible death?

Excerpt

The cabin was dark. Still, the uneasiness plaguing Shaney’s gut crept through his veins. Todd shifted restlessly beside him.

"Any chanting or pressure to run away?" Todd asked in a hushed voice.

Shaney peered out into the unnerving darkness. “No chanting. Running has crossed my mind, but that chicken shit is all on me.”

“Since when does anything remotely interesting scare you off?” Todd asked.

“Since yesterday,” Shaney replied and waved Todd to follow him to the stairs leading to the front door.

The dried, crusty remnants of mud crunched beneath Shaney’s sneakers as he crept up the stairs. Shaney froze on the last step. Shit. The front door was ajar again. Hudson must have locked it when they’d been there earlier, right? Why would he have left it open? Shaney’s apprehension kicked into a heart-pounding panic, but they’d come this far, they couldn’t run now. Using the end of his flashlight, Shaney warily pushed the door open.  He scanned the interior and his eyes widened as he stepped in cautiously.

“What the fuck?” he managed to get out.

Pushing in behind him, Todd let out a loud gasp, and then took a step back. “No.”

What little furniture there had been was piled into the corners. Complex symbols and shapes drawn in black covered the walls and the ceiling. Rendered on the old wood floor were more symbols and shapes in what looked like white chalk.

“I’ve seen these before,” Todd whispered, gesturing to the cryptic graffiti covering every surface.

“And?” Shaney asked, waiting for the punch line.

 “And, fuck, this is bad.”

“Define ‘bad,’” Shaney croaked out.

“Like oh-shit-you-don’t-mess-with-anything-this-powerful bad.”  Todd sounded a bit awestruck.

Shaney continued to run the beam of the flashlight over the symbols, which looked like a cross between something occult, Egyptian, and tenth grade geometry class. The symbols ranged from small, about a foot wide, to massive, like the one on the floor that spanned at least eight feet. Taken as a whole, each symbol was a dizzying array of angles and intersecting lines. But looking closely, Shaney could discern repeating patterns such as triangles, squares, and circles. Other odd shapes and numbers rounded out the symbols. It was as if he’d jumped straight into an episode of Supernatural. Maybe last year’s attempted exorcism of Shaney’s alleged demon hadn’t been so far-fetched.

“How fucking long would it take draw something like this?” The angles were too precise, the lines too straight. Someone had taken painstaking care in executing these images.

“So not the part to be focusing on,” Todd said dryly.

“So what’s all of this for? Some kind of magic spell? Some occult shit? Exorcism? Voodoo?”  Shaney was trying for sarcasm, but with the hair standing up on his neck and tremors rippling his skin, he couldn’t pull it off. He stared at the massive circular symbol that consumed the floor and swore the lines were vibrating. He opened and closed his eyes to try and stop the visual disturbance.

“Yes and no to all of the above,” Todd stated matter-of-factly while pulling out his phone.

“What’re you doing?”

“Taking pictures.” The blinding white flash lit the room as Todd methodically documented the symbols without moving closer into the room.

“Change places with me,” Todd said, scooting past Shaney to capture the symbols on the wall behind him. “Whatever you do don’t step on any symbols,” Todd said just as Shaney was about to lay his shoe on one.

Shaney twisted mid-step to avoid the small S-shaped symbol beneath his foot, but his center of balance shifted when he knocked his shoulder against the open door. The momentum slammed the door shut and Shaney stumbled back into the room. Flailing his arms, he managed to remain upright.

Todd turned to Shaney. His face paled in the illumination from their flashlights. His eyes widened in what Shaney could only describe as unadulterated horror.

Shaney chuckled nervously. “Umm, Todd, I stepped on a symbol,” Shaney said, standing almost dead center of the largest one on the floor. No answer. When Shaney tried to move, his lower body wouldn’t respond. Oh, shit. “Todd, I stepped on a fucking symbol and I can’t move!” Panic flooded his system with adrenaline as he repeatedly tried unsuccessfully to move. That seemed to snap Todd out of his trance.

Todd glanced around the room, and Shaney hoped he was looking for a solution to his dilemma. Todd’s eyes stopped on the closed door. A partial symbol covering the door lined up with a symbol that was its mirror image on the wall adjacent to it. Closing the door had made the two halves a whole.

“Damn it!” Todd sprinted to the door, leaping over symbols on the floor. He grabbed the handle and yanked hard on the door, but it didn’t budge.

A low vibration beneath Shaney’s feet pulled his attention away from Todd’s struggle. He frowned. The vibrations reminded him of an approaching train on the railroad tracks—and his foot was caught in the proverbial rails.

“Todd?” Shaney swallowed hard as the vibrating intensified and filled his legs.

Todd stilled his attempts to open the door and turned back to Shaney.

“Todd, something’s happening. Get me off of here!” Shaney pleaded as all of the hairs on his body stood on end. A shot of tingling energy pulsed up through the soles of his cross trainers, and flashed through his entire body.

Noah's New Plan: Chapter 26

Here’s chapter 26 of my free Wednesday Briefs story, Noah’s New Plan. The prompt I used this week was “Do you think he/she will be okay?”

Eli pushed Noah against the closed door, wanting one last kiss before having to go back to work. Even though they’d just fucked on top of Rex’s desk, it still wasn’t enough for Eli. It was all Noah’s fault anyway for showing up at the Buckle in those tight jeans. Pinning Noah against the door, he ravaged his boy’s mouth as he ground against him, pressing his newly hardened cock against Noah.

With a small moan, Noah turned his head away, ending the kiss. “We should go. I don’t want your boss to catch us.”

"Rex’ll be okay," Eli growled out as he planted kisses down Noah’s neck, nibbling with his teeth.

Noah shuddered against Eli, gripped his shoulders, then let out a soft whimper. “Your beard whiskers…”

Eli smirked. “You love that, don’t you?” He rubbed his chin across the sensitive flesh of Eli’s neck as he unbuttoned Noah’s jeans.

"You’re gonna kill me," Noah moaned as Eli slipped his hand inside his boy’s underwear and found his still wet hard-on. When he started to pull, Noah drew in a breath and held it. "Eli, I don’t think I can do it again."

"Hm. I bet I can make you come again."

Just as Eli was about to drop to his knees, the doorknob rattled.

"God damn it!" Rex shouted from the other side of the door. "Eli, if you’re in my office screwing around again…"

"Oh my god," Noah muttered, his voice tinged with panic as he hurriedly buttoned his jeans and set about straightening his shirt.

"You’re fine." Eli reached up and combed Noah’s frazzled hair with his fingers, then unlocked the door and pulled it open.

"Sorry, boss. We were just chatting."

"Chatting my ass," Rex said as he pushed past Eli. His face scrunched as he turned his head. "It fucking reeks in here."

"Uh…" Noah started to say something to Rex, but then decided to cut and run. His face completely red, he darted out of the office.

Eli turned to his friend. “Sorry about that. We got carried away. You know how it is— Oh, wait, you don’t.”

"Get the fuck out of here before I fire your big dumb ass." Though his words were harsh, he had a smile on his face. He shoved Eli through the door and slammed it shut.

Eli’s chuckles were cut off when he found Noah in the hallway being accosted by a bleach-blond pastel-covered twink.

* * * *

Noah didn’t have much time to recover from his embarrassment at being caught in Rex’s office with Eli. Before he could make it out onto the bar floor, he was pushed backward by someone shoving his chest.

Stumbling, he caught his footing against the wall and looked up to see what the problem was.

Crap. Not again.

"You fucking slut!" Reagan screamed loud enough to be heard over the music. "Where is he?"

"Who?"

"Derek, you bitch!"

"How should I know? I told you, I don’t want Derek. I have a man. And you need to calm down."

"I know you just fucked him. I smell it all over you. Get out of my way."

Before they could get any further, Eli stepped in and pushed the two men apart. He grabbed Reagan by the popped collar of his lavender golf shirt and yanked him away from Noah.

"What the fuck is going on here?" he growled.

Noah sighed. “This is Derek’s boyfriend, Reagan.”

"Ah." Eli nodded in understanding. "Should I call an exorcist?"

Reagan tried to squirm out of Eli’s grip. “What? What the hell does that mean?”

"You know, The Exorcist. Horror movie from the seventies? Demon possessed girl named Regan? Ring any bells? If I gotta explain it…”

Reagan rolled his eyes in a highly exaggerated manner. “Uh, I was like born in 1990. Now let me go, you ape!”

Noah sighed. He was liking this kid less and less all the time. “He thinks Derek and I are… having sex.”

Eli jerked Reagan by the shirt collar and dragged him to the front of the bar. He kicked open the outer door with his boot, then pulled the twink outside.

He bent down into Reagan’s face, his voice loud and clear. “Look here, kid. I’m getting fucking sick of you and that pencil-dicked douchebag sticking your goddamned noses in me and Noah’s relationship.” He let go of Reagan’s shirt with a shove, sending the boy scrambling backward. Eli pointed his finger at the kid. “If I see you around here again, I’m gonna pound you into the dirt. And not in the way you like.”

Reagan pursed his lips together as he stood upright and dusted himself off. “You just stay away from him. Or you’ll be sorry.” He swallowed, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he did.

In that moment he seemed so small and young, Noah almost felt sorry for him. The kid just didn’t get it. “As you can see, I’ve moved on. This big lug here is mine, and he’s more than enough for me to handle. Derek is all yours.”

Reagan looked between the two men, then turned and left.

Noah turned to face Eli. “Do you think he’ll be okay?”

"Who the fuck cares?"

Noah burst out laughing. “Mister Sensitive over here.” He grabbed the man’s big bear paw of a hand. “I love you, Eli. I don’t want anyone else.”

Eli tugged Noah close. “I know.”

He kissed Noah until the smaller man nearly passed out.

Guest Post: Chris T. Kat

Please welcome fellow Wednesday Brief blogger Chris T. Kat! Chris is here to promote her new paranormal romance, The Wolf and His Diva.

Telepathic Bond

Rob, thank you very much for having me. I’m here to talk about my new release, The Wolf and His Diva, a m/m shape-shifter romance which was published by Dreamspinner Press on March 12th.

In The Wolf and His Diva, the two main characters, George and Billy, are deeply attuned to each other. They share a telepathic bond that grows throughout the story. These two trust each other and have mutual empathy. George and Billy “talk” to each other via their telepathy. That means they communicate not only via the spoken language but also through their feelings for each other, as well as images and desires.

The telepathy has its advantages but, of course, also its disadvantages because if the bond is strong than privacy can become an issue. George and Billy can’t hide their feelings or desires from each other and that’s bound to bring some friction into their relationship, especially when one of them wants to keep something to himself…

It was great fun to explore the telepathic bond between George and Billy, how they responded to each other’s feelings and desires. I’ve brought an excerpt with me that’ll allow you a glimpse into their special relationship. I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Blurb:

George Owens is comfortable with his life just the way it is. A wolf- and fox-shifter, George leads a reclusive lifestyle with his energetic and diva-ish mate Billy, a fox-and squirrel-shifter.

George has no desire to take over leadership of the pack, despite his father’s wishes. Edward Owens is feeling his age and wants to make sure the pack is in good hands should he not be able to win his next challenge. However, George is adamant that he wants no part of it.

But events rock George from his complacency, and he realizes he has to take a stand and fight for what he cares about. If he remains in the past and cannot change in order to do what he must, he risks losing everything he loves.

Excerpt from Chapter Four:

“Want me to tell you a secret?”

“Hmm.” George’s neck muscles corded, which would surely result in a headache later. Still, he forced himself to ask, “What secret?”

“How I always know when you’re thinking cheesy stuff?”

The tension in his neck released with surprising force. George aimed for his usual tone when he retorted, “Why does it have to be cheesy?”

“Every time you think, um, romantic stuff, I’m tingling all over and there’s warmth spreading from my gut to the rest of my body. It feels like… like a surge of heat, and the intensity of it always catches me off guard.”

George turned around so he could face Billy. “I didn’t know that. Why don’t I ever feel like this?”

Billy stared at him, then closed his eyes. George cocked his head to the side, certain Billy would be doing something soon. At first nothing happened. Just when he readied himself to open his mouth, sweat broke out on his skin. Warmth filled him from the inside and grew in intensity. He looked at his belly hidden beneath his sweater, wondering whether a flame would be flaring up while the comfortable warmth changed into fieriness. Gasping, he trembled from the hotness that traveled through his body, almost as if it wanted to devour him.

As fast as the sensation had hit him, it vanished, although a soft, comfortable tingle remained. He swayed on the spot as he asked breathlessly, “What was that?”

“Me thinking gooey stuff about you and me. I… usually clamp down on it because… well, it’s a tiny bit embarrassing, don’t you think?”

Billy squinted up at George, with cheeks that seemed to have almost the same color as his hair. George reached out and gently cupped Billy’s face in his hands. He stroked his thumbs along the prominent cheekbones, still reeling from the intensity of Billy’s feelings for him. Allowing himself permission to let go, his love for Billy surged through him.

He was rewarded with a shuddering intake of breath from Billy. A moment later, Billy freed his face from George’s hands and pressed it against George’s chest, breathing harshly and fast. “Oh, man, this is better than any orgasm.”

George laughed out loud, then wrapped his arms around Billy. “Think about how it would feel if we combine the sensations?”

“Are you sure we’d survive it?”

“How about we try it out?”

Tease Me Thursday

The Wednesday Briefs group is starting up Tease Me Thursday, a blog hop for sharing snippets of works in progress. For this hop we’re posting 7 paragraphs, or 7 sentences, or 7 words.

Today I’m sharing the first seven sentences of Enforcer: Chapter 2. Look for the full chapter this Saturday!

Buzz Hinske watched as the alpha wolf circled his opponent.

With a calculating eye, the Tahoe Pack alpha moved silently, looking for the right opportunity to strike.

The Eldorado Pack alpha limped, his left hind leg all but useless, his breath coming in sharp wheezes. Though covered in open bleeding wounds, he still did not back down and yield.

Buzz knew this was exactly what his alpha wanted. This would be a fight to the death and Derek would be victorious.

The Tahoe Pack was powerful, growing bigger and stronger than their neighboring rival pack.
