Please do not take this as an attack in any way, it is meant to help define how I came to the decision to try to write my own new series of novels.
I have always been perfectly happy to wade through the seemingly endless list of, what I consider to be, poorly completed materials to find that one ‘Gem’, be it a book or movie. Often times, these ‘near-hits’ have great mechanics and stories, but as an overall work, they seem somehow incomplete to me.
Having consumed enough of this seemingly incomplete material; you eventually come to a point where you can either challenge yourself to ‘Do a Better Job’ or let it go.
Having felt not only slighted, but outright ‘ripped off’ on more than a few occasions; I decided to try to ‘Do a Better Job’.
Shortly thereafter the ideas for the Nocturnity Book Series began to come to me in vivid dreams. Sharing these dreams with my wife, who (Thank Goodness) has a superior memory, enabled my waking recollections of these dreams to make it to the light of day, allowing me to begin writing.
In the early days of my first book, before many rewrites, I personally felt the writing was horrible at best; in my own opinion. I will probably always be my own worst critic. I have also taken notice that as my writing matures, revisiting some of my original material causes me to wince, realizing how I, ‘Could have Done it better’.
I fully believe that my own desire for self improvement and growth will further assist me in growing as an author and making it possible to continue publishing quality stories for the reader. ...more
