I Have Been Initiated

Yes, I have received my first rejection letter. I was somewhat broken up over it, but at the same time it was inspiring. I am now initiated into the club. I can officially say, I wrote a book and submitted it to an agency. Yes, it was rejected but I did it. Isn't that the most important part anyway? Just being able to say you accomplished the task of writing a book. Not everyone can do that. I am, of course, never going to be satisfied with just writing a book. No, I want to publish. I will do what it takes to see my work on paper, bound together with an epic cover. But, with my first book down, on what I plan to be a trilogy, what do I do now?

Currently I am writing on Just for Kicks, my YA/ Middle Grade fantasy/ comedy/ drama, what-have-you book. It's funny, fun, and just a good story. Oh, and those aren't my words. I'm not that egotistical. Anyway, after stressing over the first book for quite some time, I can only imagine what stress the second and third will bring. But, will it get easier? This question is a tough one, considering there are many factors at play. Yes, I know my characters now, I can push their lives forward. But, can I push the story forward? Where are they going to end up? What if I can't top the first book?

All these question run through my head on a daily basis. Though I haven't started the second book. I have thought about it quite a bit. But, I don't feel comfortable yet to move forward. So, I have decided to write Just for Kicks first since it will be a single novel and then follow up with the second book to the Nymphs trilogy.

No matter what happens, whether I am publish or not, at least I never gave up.

Excerpt from Essence

With my book 50 unedited pages away from finally being completed, I decided to share an excerpt from the book. This section happens near the end of the book. I hope you enjoy this teaser!

Chrys couldn’t help being pulled toward the light. It was so beautiful, so alluring. It didn’t feel wrong to her. In fact, it felt like a part of her. A part of the earth.

Chrys took a deep, steadying breath, and plunged her hand toward the little orb. She closed her hand around it and was surprised that it tingled. She expected it’d feel hot, cold, or maybed even airy. But, it was soft and made her hand feel like it had fallen asleep.

Chrys cupped it between her hands and parted them very slightly. The light shone out brightly, but the little orb didn’t seem to try to escape. When Chrys was little, they use to catch frogs, and when they would try to peek at them, they would always try to push through the hole. But, this wasn’t like that.

It nestled into her palms, and started to vibrate. Chrys let out a gasp of surprise and tried to drop it like a hot coal, but her hands wouldn’t pull apart. She pulled and jumped and swung her arms around, but they wouldn’t move.

The orb vibrated faster and Chrys’ heart sped up. The light shone even brighter, almost blinding Chrys. Just as she thought she was going to pass out, it stopped. There was no more light, no more vibration, and no more glued hands.

When Chrys peered at her hands, a tiny gray mark was on the outside edge of her right palm. It was about an inch wide and looked like a three-leafed clover without a stem. Chrys rubbed her hand on her dress but it didn’t go away. She scraped at it with her fingernail, but it only irritated her skin.

The orb had marked her.

Just For Kicks

Here's another peek at Just For Kicks!
My social worker, Betty, told me she was the best. She could transform any child from a misfit, ill mannered brat, to a charming, poised child, worthy of adoption. Though, she noted I may be an exception. What was my reply?
“Well, damn, guess I’m SOL huh Bets? You should give up now, since I’m such a lost cause. Good thing too, you may yet be able to get your money back for that Craig Sager suit.”
Let’s just say, she didn’t find that comment rather amusing. Oh, and for those of you who don’t know who Craig sager is, he’s a sportscaster for TNT and TBS. He wears the ugliest, most ridiculous suits. So, if you don’t watch basketball, then you must be lost. Here’s a reference picture:

If you haven't laughed yet, then I need to step it up! Thanks for reading!

Excerpt from Just for Kicks

I can remember my first foster family. The McCallisters. They kept me for about two years. The longest I have ever been anywhere. Then again, I was three. They thought I was adorable, and an angel. They were even considering adoption, until I started school. My first day of kindergarten brought that fairy tale to an end, after I cut off Lindsey Taylor’s braid.

Wouldn't this have been fun as a kid?

This is an excerpt from Essence.

Chyrs grabbed a plate, and shuffled some greens, and gnocchi onto her plate, and sat down at a picnic table. She picked at the fresh leafy lettuce, and watched a few children play. They eluded Kristopher and had hidden behind a few saplings and thick bushes.

“What are they doing?” Came the familiar low voice. Chrys nearly chocked on her cucumber, and turned to see Talon. He wore a brimmed hat, that shadowed his face, and a different coat, more like the ones they had. Chrys smiled, and looked around quickly, but Gaia was at the very far end, speaking among some Supremes.

“They’re playing Scuttle.” She explained as he sat down. It used to be Chrys’ favorite game. “Each player chooses a seed from the pot at random. No peeking! Then you would lay your seed down at the start line. When the announcer says ‘go’, you use your magic to make the little seed sprout legs, and run down to the finish line. First to cross wins.”

Talon smiled and looked amazed as, sure enough, the little seeds sprouted vine legs and ran down to the line.

“Wow. So, what do you do with the seeds, when they’ve been used.” He asked.

“Well, you can always keep them in that form, and shelf them as trophies. Most like to plant them, and let them grow. But, I always recycled mine.”

“Recycled?” He asked, puzzled.

“Yeah, I would turn it back into a whole seed, and throw it back in. Especially if I won with it. It would give the next kid a chance with a good seed.” Talon smiled at Chyrs, and pushed a stray lock of hair from her face.

“You really are amazing, you know that?” Chrys blushed.

“I better go. But, I will see you tonight.” Chrys wanted to tell him that it’d be impossible, but he was too quick. He planted a kiss on her cheek, and was gone.

Cover Images Suck

So, I have been looking at pictures, taking pictures, and messing with them. I know what I want. Problem is, getting what I want! But, I thought I'd post something for now, for fun! Enjoy!
