Groundhog Day, the Movie?

If you’ve seen Groundhog Day or 50 First Dates, you’re familiar with the idea of someone waking up to the same day over and over. If you could repeat your best day, which day would you choose to relive? A fun-filled day spent with your sweetheart or your favorite little ones? A rowdy road trip… Continue reading Groundhog Day, the Movie?

Orange Anyone?

The original oranges from Southeast Asia were a tangerine-pomelo hybrid, and they were actually green. In fact, oranges in warmer regions like Vietnam and Thailand still stay green through maturity. (thanks, Readers Digest)

In fiction, how do you fairly and without bias write a compelling character you deeply dislike?

It’s easier than you might think. You write fairly and without bias because you are so totally determined to not be unfair that in most cases you’ll go the other way and make that character better than he/she really is. And you make that character compelling because to you, he/she is already compelling, in your… Continue reading In fiction, how do you fairly and without bias write a compelling character you deeply dislike?

Code Red!

Red is the power color. Women with red lipstick get hit on more often than any other color. People using with red poker chips bet more. (Okay, maybe it’s not good to encourage even more gambling, but you get the idea.) Taekwondo competitors wear red win more bouts. Go figure. Do their red suits blind… Continue reading Code Red!

Do you practice daily writing exercises to keep your writing flow active?

Personally, no I don’t. I never have, figuring that my time is valuable (to me, anyway) and that I’d rather spend it doing something than practicing doing something. So I write and that in itself is an exercise in how to write. Sometimes what I write is deleted and that’s okay because few things in… Continue reading Do you practice daily writing exercises to keep your writing flow active?

Good Deeds Rewarded

Have you ever done someone a favor that actually ended up paying off for you? Like, if you’re gonna perform the Heimlich maneuver on someone, it would be nice if it turned out to be a millionaire who rewards you handsomely, right? I can only wish. (thanks Missouriquiltco.com)

Creative People

When you hear someone say “it’s the closest thing to paradise,” they’re usually talking about a tropical island. I get it. Who wouldn’t want to lounge on a white sand beach with warm turquoise water? But creative people are not great at doing nothing all day long, so although it might sound tempting, I have… Continue reading Creative People

Lazy People Invent Things Because …

Lech Walesa, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, once said: “I’m lazy. But it’s the lazy people who invented the wheel and the bicycle because they didn’t like walking or carrying things.”  Call it laziness, creativity, or genius, whatever it is, I love finding tools that help me get things done in a smarter way. Such… Continue reading Lazy People Invent Things Because …

Following Rules — Or Not

Following Rules — Or Not.When I was a little girl I was a serious rule-follower. Something as small as a disappointed glance from an authority figure was enough to make my stomach churn. So when my first grade teacher got tired of wasted art supplies and made a rule that the kids needed to stop… Continue reading Following Rules — Or Not
