I have been waiting for something like this for a long time

There is some spunk, and some legal knowledge, still left somewhere in the Republic. The following bill was introduced into the Texas legislature yesterday. The bill explicitly references my two favorite amendments, X and IX.

Those of you who have read EMPHYRIO by Jack Vance, particularly the scene where Amiante the woodcarver, relying on the antique charter of Ambroy, violates the regulations of the Welfare Agency, will know how this will end.

In the meanwhile, all you Texans, write your representative to support this bill. You can track its progress here. http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=81R&Bill=HCR50

FREE NIGHT LAND DAY!

It is novella length, so it is not a full book, but it takes place a kalpa of years from now, so you will still get your money’s worth. And by your money’s worth, I mean it is totally free of charge today and tomorrow (May 06 and May 07). Limited time offer!

This volume contains only one of my four ‘Night Land’ stories, but it is the best one:

Here is the official announcement:

In case you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, or despite the many excellent reviews you still have not been moved to put John C. Wright at the front of your reading list, today opportunity knocks as today and tomorrow, AWAKE IN THE NIGHT is free on Amazon.

The novella was included in the Years Best Science Fiction anthology published in 2004. It makes for an marvelous introduction to the terrors of the Night Land, as well as to the dark beauty of Mr. John C. Wright’s pen.

In not entirely unrelated news, I would like to thank you all for an astonishingly successful launch of Mr. Wright’s TRANSHUMAN AND SUBHUMAN. I expected it to be of significant interest to many of you, but I can’t honestly say that I expected this:

#1 in Books > Science Fiction & Fantasy > Science Fiction > History & Criticism
#1 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Nonfiction > Politics & Social Sciences > Philosophy > Good & Evil
 #1 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > History & Criticism > Criticism & Theory

Outselling Sam Harris

Well, well, look at that. In the microscopic subcategory of ‘Philosophy of Good and Evil’ for the short hour as I write this, my first ever nonfiction book TRANSHUMAN AND SUBHUMAN: Essays on Science Fiction and Awful Truth outranks Sam Harris, atheist luminary and living lapse of logic! Let the joyous news be spread!

Outselling Sam HarrisThis is like the story of David and Goliath! Just like that story! Only if Goliath were a little old nearsighted lady from Peoria named Millicent Sopworth, and David was the local paperboy named Harmon Muldoon who zoomed by on his ten-speed bike and clocked her in the noggin with a rolled up newspaper, knocking her lacy hat with artificial flowers askew, and peddled away, laughing, leaving her bewildered but unhurt, in an incident that no one would ever notice or care about.

ADDED LATER:

Well, look at that! I am also number one in Science Fiction History and Criticism! An even smaller category of book sales! This is like Harmon Muldoon bopping a small dog on the rear as he bikes by!

Instapundit and the World Crime League

Sarah Hoyt, who is not even a minion of mine, has done me the unsolicited honor of promoting my book on Instapundit:

http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/188088/

And she speaks of herself in the third person. Could she be a Dark Lord (or, in her case, Dark Lady) in her own right? Does she have drug-maddened Dacoit assassins, a secret base hidden in a dormant volcano, and an army of human-ape hybrids created by insane Soviet science? It seems she does!

Is she the World’s Worst Person? I thought that was Larry Correia, International Lord of Hate?

Let us check the file photos to confirm:

Ad Copy

A reader with the triskdecaphiliac yet hundredfold name of Centurion 13 writes in about the ad copy describing TRANSHUMAN AND SUBHUMAN:

“one of science fiction’s greatest living masters.”

I … um, okay. Really? I can’t imagine this came from Mister Wright himself, as he seems quite humble. Is the hyperbole necessary?

My comment: You are correct that this is not the ad copy I wrote. “one of science fiction’s greatest living masters.” Indeed! Meh!

My original copy read this way:

TRANSHUMAN AND SUBHUMAN is Now Here!

Castalia House is deeply honored to announce the publication of what we believe is the most important book about science fiction in years, TRANSHUMAN AND SUBHUMAN: Essays on Science Fiction and Awful Truth by John C. Wright. The 369-page book is comprised of sixteen essays originally written by Mr. Wright for his journal, which have been edited, and in a number of cases, collated from more than one journal posting, by Mr. Wright.

Klavan and Whittle answer my Question

Well, that is …. surprising. I turned on this video and saw my two favorite conservative commentators talking about my favorite topic. Then I heard my name.

This is my question! Wow.

I think this is on the nonmember side. Someone tell me if you can see what is behind the link.
