Book Signing at Seattle Mystery Book Shop 10/20

Curt and I will be at the Seattle Mystery Book Shop (117 Cherry Street in downtown Seattle) on Saturday, October 20 at noon, signing Dial C for Chihuahua. One of our favorite authors, Jane Isenberg, will be there at the same time signing her new book, The Bones and the Book.

We hope you can join us. I’m not sure if Pepe will be able to attend but we do have a stamp of his pawprint so he can sign books too!

Dial C Book Launch

Curt and I had a great time celebrating with about 75 friends and fans who showed up for our book launch at Elliott Bay book store on Saturday, September 29. We talked about our writing process, debuted our book trailer video (will be posted shortly), acknowledged some of the people who helped us with the book (with pawprint balloons) and did a dramatic reading of the first two chapters.

Pepe made a guest appearance and was quite exhausted by the demands of celebrity by the end of the evening. He loved the dog-bone shaped cookies we served.

Casey and Seth of Elliott Bay were great, setting up for the event and selling books. We sold about 50 but there are still more at Elliott Bay if you are looking for a signed copy! Whitney Keyes, our marketing maven, told me to remind you that they make great holiday gifts for dog lovers and mystery lovers.

Pepe Wrestles an Alligator

Pepe is full of stories about all the wonderful things he has done. This is a vision of one of his adventures, done by Seattle cartoonist, David Lasky, who is doing two other illustrations to be included in our book trailer video for Dial C for Chihuahua. We just wrapped up the filming today and will be debuting the final short film (providing Pepe’s view of his life) at our book launch at Elliott Bay Book Company on September 29 at 6 PM. If you’re not able to come to the book launch, you’ll be able to see the video on YouTube in the days that follow.

Author Reading at Elliott Bay

Waverly Fitzgerald and Curt Colbert invite you to join us at one of our favorite bookstores, Elliott Bay Book Company, to celebrate the publication of Dial C for Chihuahua on Saturday, September 29 from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.

There will be a dramatic reading, some dog-themed treats and a guest appearance by Pepe, the Chihuahua who inspired the novel. Expect some surprises as well.

We’ve been meeting in the Cafe here with our writing group for several years (note yummy food and delicious latte on table in front of Waverly). Also note the gorgeous cover from Dial C for Chihuahua.

Elliott Bay is located 1521 Tenth Avenue on Capitol Hill in Seattle.

Ay Chihuahua

This was the food truck serving food at the Victorian Day celebration in Volunteer Park, Seattle (commemorating the 100 years of our lovely Conservatory). We had originally considered this as the title for our first novel, which is now Dial C for Chihuahua. I think I prefer that.

Obsessive Chihuahua Disorder

We have been diagnosed with OCD (Obsessive Chihuahua Disorder). Luckily there is help at this web site for those who suffer from OCD (is it an addiction? or a disease?). Can one be cured? And would one want to be?

Nikki who created the website posted this cute photo of her Chihuahua, Bebe, with our book (and a card from Krista Brooks of Retro Pets).

Book Club Deals

We just got news that is making us dance for joy: Dial C for Chihuahua has been selected by two book clubs: the Mystery Guild and Book of the Month Club (online). It seems that Pepe’s plan for world domination may be realized.

Author Photos

The chroniclers of my adventurers got their author photos taken today by a talented young photographer named Amelia Mann. Amelia also took a great shot of me. Who do you think is most photogenic?  Pepe

Dial C for Chihuahua

We are happy to announce that Kensington will publish in October 2012 the first in our series of humorous mystery novels about a talking Chihuahua named Pepe. They just sent us the cover copy. We love it and we wanted to share it with you.

Front Cover:

He’s got a nose for crime—and a weakness for bacon…

DIAL C FOR CHIHUAHUA

A Bark in the Dark Mystery (this is still under discussion–if you can think of a better tagline, let us know!)

Waverly Curtis (this is our pen name–pretty tricky, right?)

Back Cover:

“I am Pepe. But you can call me el Jefe.”

Pepe may have soft white fur, big brown eyes, and mucho attitude—but he’s no furry fashion fad. Pepe is different. Pepe can talk—even if his new owner, Geri Sullivan, seems to be the only person who can understand him.

When Geri takes on her first assignment for a quirky investigator named Jimmy G and stumbles over a Seattle millionaire’s corpse, Pepe proves to be worth his weight in liver treats. Suspicion falls on the not-so-grieving widow, Rebecca Tyler, who wants to finance a reality TV show, Dancing With Dogs. Normally, Pepe wouldn’t be caught muerte in a sparkly costume. However, for Mrs. Tyler’s caliente Pomeranian, he might make an exception. But puppy love will have to wait. First Pepe has to sniff out the real killer and keep Geri safe. Lesser dogs might flinch. But Pepe isn’t the kind to turn tail and run…
