My Latest Book is Now Available for Pre-order...

....on Kobo. It'll be available everywhere on December 2nd, so if you want to be notified when it's available elsewhere, just drop me a line or add yourself to my mailing list.

From the author of the Kobo bestselling novel, The Sock Wars comes The Migraine Mafia.

On paper, Viive McBroome lives the perfect life—a key player in a fast-paced, technical field, one promotion away from real success—but that’s only if you ignore one little problem.

Sandwiched between one migraine and the next, Viive’s life is like those choose-your-own-adventure books you read as a kid, only less fun and with a lot more drugs. And lately, as her bosses politely march her toward a vacation that might never end, even the good days seem like a struggle for survival.

Faced with frustration from her loved ones and the dark machinations of a new coworker, Viive feels herself getting pulled under by guilt, apologies, and workplace shenanigans. But then she meets the Migraine Mafia, a quirky, vibrant support group, and her fragile camouflage begins to crumble. She discovers that a room full of strangers just might be able to change the way she views her illness—and realizes that if she doesn’t learn to ask for help, her health isn’t the only thing she stands to lose.

Sometimes painful, frequently hilarious, never dull, The Migraine Mafia is the story of one woman’s life-altering decision to thrive in the face of chronic illness. Pre-order a copy on Kobo today.

The View From My Writing Room

I just got back from four days on our boat (a Grampian 30 sailboat), which is moored on Lake Ontario. My better half, John, and I spend most summer weekends on our boat, and I wrote a good part of "The Sock Wars" while on it. I did a bunch of edits on my upcoming novel, "The Migraine Mafia" this weekend, and this was my view:

Spoiled! That's me :)

"The Sock Wars" is an ALLi Indie Author Pick

I'm thrilled that "The Sock Wars" has been selected as an ALLi Indie Author Pick for this month:

If you're an indie writer, you should check ALLi out. It's a writer's organization that focuses and lobbies on behalf of on indie writers, and is basically awesome. And if you're a reader, why not hop over and take a look at this month's Indie Author Picks, as well as "After Phoenix", by Martine McDonagh, this month's Book of the Month?

Have You Read "The Dirty Parts of the Bible"?

I read this novel in 2011 and fell in love with it; it's very well written, engaging, and unique; "a humorous novel set during the Great Depression---a rollicking tale of love and liquor, preachers and prostitutes, trains and treasure, sure to appeal to fans of Water for Elephants, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Mark Twain, and Johnny Cash."

I was very happy to wake up this morning at #19 on the Amazon Kindle Humor bestseller list...
...right beside it. Looks like it's just .99 right now, so it's a great time to pick up a copy

Why I Won't be Joining The Writers Union of Canada

I have a guest post over at ALLi today - The Alliance of Independent Publishers - about the Writers Union's recent decision to (possibly) admit indie writers. Please hop on over and take a look when you have a chance.

As an aside - if you're a self-published writer and interested in joining a writers' organization, take a look at ALLi. They have lots of information, a crack advisory team, and an international perspective.  Go ALLi!

Anyone Out there from Iceland or Guernsey?

My latest Goodreads giveaway is now over - 1711 people entered and 3 people won - from the US and Canada. Thanks to everyone who entered!

When I chose the regions for my latest giveaway I added Iceland and Guernsey, because my website has gotten some visits from those areas. My better half John and I fell in love with Iceland when we were there about a year and a half ago - as someone with an Estonian background, I felt right at home with the Scandinavian esthetic, the friendliness of the people, and the yumminess of their food. This was taken right outside the famous Blue Lagoon (on the only sunny day we got, unfortunately).

...and after Kobo's fantastic Memorial Day sale this weekend, I'm now snuggled up the the awesome The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society on the Literary Bestseller list. I've been meaning to read this book forever and it's now officially on my TBR list.

So, to do something nice for both Guernsey and Iceland - if you live in either place and think you might like The Sock Wars, please give me a shout and I'll send you a free e-book!
