What is the most lucid dream you have ever had?

I am content with my dreams having provided me with two wondrous experiences that gave me windows into other worlds that I will never forget

Out of your body or out of your mind?

Did you know that there are books out there that will train you on how to have an out of body experience, and the internet is full of people happy to describe their own adventures doing the same? I didn’t, but I ran into something similar while writing x0 and researching telepathy. Both times I had to ask myself — do I believe any of this? Does it matter if I believe it?

I am a scientist in my real job, a geophysicist to be specific. I believe in the laws of nature and my default mode is skeptical. Thanks to my background, though, I also know that the universe behaves in many strange ways that we can’t explain, and that the more physics you know the stranger some of it gets.

and the energy inside you goes round and round ….

I sometimes have this fantasy in which I’ve been given a magic photo album of my entire life and every year (maybe on my birthday?) I a get to open it to one random page somewhere in the future and study the photographs.

and the energy inside you goes round and round ….

Research for my latest novel has me looking into particle physics, as an informed and curious lay person, and let me tell you that’s some very scary stuff. The universe? A whole, whole lot of nothing. And the little bits of something that are there? They are more waves than they are anything else. And they’re not even so much waves as they are the possibilities of waves …It’s amazing, and it truly does make the petty arguments of this world appear even more inane

and the energy inside you goes round and round ….

According to the kids’ song, it’s the wheels on the bus …. but some days it’s the thoughts in the head, the feelings in the heart, and excitement in your soul that you can hardly contain as it all twirls and spins with the very force that powers the universe…

A Lot of Pissed-off People ………. (thoughts from Belgrade)

Clearly most of us on the bus have never seen a bombed building before, but a sense of respect prevents us from pulling out cameras.

One person’s tourist destination is another person’s home …… (thoughts from Bucharest)

So here I am on a bus in Bucharest, watching twenty or so of my fellow tourists who are from China laugh when they discover that the big exhibit at the museum here features the famous Terracotta warriors from back home.

That which does not kill us ……. (thoughts from Budapest)

I’m riding a tour bus across the Danube and I’m thinking of Nietzsche.

Wings

This past week I’ve smiled every time I read this, and started my morning determined to spend my day as a butterfly. It seems to improve both my behavior and my outlook.

Ten Wonderful, Easy Things You Can Do for Your Friend Who Writes Books

You have a good friend or close relative who self-publishes her stories and you think it is totally cool but you haven’t gotten around to reading one yet. It would be nice if there was a quick way to show your support. There are ten of them I can think of, and any single one will make her smile.

Please note: if you happen to refer to that close relative as “mom” then this list could be a fine, easy, cheap way to make her happy on mother’s day!
