I'm Sherrie R. Cronin, the author of a collection of six speculative fiction novels known as 46. Ascending. These tales of everyday superheroes are about the potential inside us all. My books are in the process of being renamed, edited, and re-released.

The first book, One of One, is the story of a lifelong empath who must come to terms with her mind-reading tendencies as she becomes the unlikely hero in a rescue mission in Nigeria. It's the story of very different people learning to understand one another. It was re-released in January 2019.

Shape of Secrets tells of Lola’s son Zane, a genius with an ability to alter his appearance. This is a story about being true to who you are, and the importance of finding joy in your life. It was just

For me it's usually that I've been ignoring my physical body for too long, and I need to stop and stretch, drink water, eat, walk, pee or rest. Often I need to do all of them. I get really caught up in trying to get a scene just right, and can find that I haven't moved for hours. That just isn't healthy. It seems to me that writer's block is my way of forcing myself to take a break.
The other time I run into blocks is when I'm trying to write a scene for which I don't have enough background. This happened in z2 when I tried to describe a civil war re-enactment, and finally realized that I didn't know enough about one to write about it! I took a break to do some research, and my husband even attended one nearby and came back with video. Of course then I had the opposite problem. I ended up writing pages describing this reenactment and had to cut the scene way back when I edited my first draft.(less)

I had a spirited discussion about this once with a psychologist. I was praising the wisdom of the Rolling Stones; she was sharing her professional observations. We were at a party and it was lucky no nearby cynic entered the conversation arguing people don’t get either.

It is a conundrum, though, isn’t it. You ask for something y...

Description: Teddie likes her country music and her old pick-up truck and she’s not sure how she let her best friend talk her into spending a semester abroad in Darjeeling India. Once she arrives, her innocence quickly collides with an underworld in which young women are bartered and sold. As she fights to understand a depravity that she never dreamed existed, Teddie finds that her own mind develops a unique ability for locating her friends and that an ancient group is willing to train her to save others by using her innate skills for out of body experiences. It will require trust in ideas she barely believes, and more courage than has ever been expected of her. When it becomes clear that the alternative may be her friends’ deaths and the unchecked growth of an evil crime lord’s empire, Teddie accepts the challenge and shows those guilty of unspeakable crimes just how powerful a young woman can be.

Description: Alex once walked away from a rare ability to warp time, thinking it was only a young man’s trick to play basketball better. Now, as a father and teacher, he needs to relearn the skill quickly before the past begins to destroy his own future. To protect his daughter and his most promising student, he must stop the school at which he teaches from turning the clock backwards to an era of white supremacy. He wants desperately to use his unique gifts to help an old high school friend solve an ancient Maya mystery that offers a rare chance to bridge the past and the future. Both are possible, but only if Alex can learn to control his temporal talents before he runs out of time.

Description: Zane swore as a child to someday protect all of the odd people in the world. He studied chameleons and muscle groups as he taught himself to alter his own appearance, and it turned out that skills for blending were very helpful to a young boy too smart and too different to fit in well. But as an adult, things have changed. Zane finds that he now just wants to be himself. He gets a degree in neuroscience to understand abilities that even he recognizes as astonishing. Worst of all, he is fast discovering that everyone is odd. He hadn’t counted on that. When he lands in the sales department of Penthes Pharmaceuticals, he begins to uncover layers of corporate secrets that ultimately will hide surprisingly vile plans. Sent on a sales boondoggle to the South Pacific, he finds others with talents as surprising as his own and with problems far worse. As his new friends flee the malicious schemes of those who would control them, Zane wants to help. Their freedom-loving philosophy of y1 calls to him. But first, he must deal with a murder charge. And an unsavory boot camp manager. And serious repercussions from the fact that not everyone at Penthes likes him, or wants him to knows the mysteries that the company has worked so hard to keep hidden. Can he help them all? Can he even help himself? Fantasy, reality and a bit of speculative science come together as Zane uses all the unique abilities he has to resist turning from a murder suspect into a murder victim. Then he has to sort out just how to keep that childhood promise.

Description: Somadina is a young Nigerian beauty who thinks that her telepathic abilities are perfectly normal. So when her sister becomes a captive, the young Igbo woman draws upon her powers to find an ally. What she finds is Lola, a cranky Texan geophysicist who does not believe in nonsense and insists on ignoring the disturbing phenomenon in her mind. However, these two women have more in common than they realize, and they are about to learn how well that will forge a powerful link. As Somadina discovers that her sister has become a strategic pawn in a dangerous game, she vows to do anything to get the attention of this kindred, uncooperative lady. This forces x0, an ancient organization with good reasons to stay hidden, to reluctantly emerge from the shadows. Somebody really needs to intervene. Both women are far stronger than they know, and to make matters worse, a fringe fanatic may be on the verge of altering a nation’s future.

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

Bob Craton The amount of research that Sherrie does before writing makes those of us who just make things up as we go along look bad.
