“This book was spectacular!”

Sliding Beneath the Surface

The St. Augustine Trilogy: Book I

Young adult, paranormal & historical

A review placed on her blog, Books, Brownies & Barkers by Jennifer Martinez.

“I think I just learned something… I love when that happens!

“Sliding Beneath the Surface is the first part in the St. Augustine Trilogy by author Doug Dillon. Jeff Golden is suffering from horrible nightmares that have rocked him awake the last 3 nights in a row. His best friend Carla finally calls him out on it and he tells her about his nightmares. Carla and her grandmother have an idea of what may be causing these horrible dreams and know exactly who to talk to to figure out the real reason.

“Lobo, is a Native American who lives next door to Carla. He knows all about the spirit world and can see the darkness surrounding Jeff. When Lobo is finally able to get though to Jeff, he is thrust into 48 hours of intense learning about what makes him different from the rest of the world. Jeff has a connection with the “worlds within worlds within worlds” that Lobo talks about and someone long dead is trying to take advantage of Jeff’s new abilities.

“ With the number 28 reappearing everywhere it becomes evident that Jeff, Lobo and Carla do not have much time to find out who has attached themselves to Jeff and why. Will Jeff be able to put the past behind him and accept what Lobo has to offer him or will his stubbornness get in the way and cost him his life. Read Sliding Beneath the Surface, to find out.

“When I first started this book I didn’t know what to expect. The cover is quite catchy and I was instantly intrigued. As a Florida resident I love reading books set in the state. It is always fun to see where you live in someone else’s eyes and this was no exception. Doug did a fantastic job painting the city of St. Augustine into the beautiful rich city it is.

“St. Augustine is one of the oldest cities in the state and has a very rich history. Doug did an amazing job tapping into the wealth of knowledge this city contains and creating a wonderful story with an amazing history lesson tied in. His story was so engrossing I didn’t realize the historical facts were true until the notes at the end.

“Jeff is a character that really blossoms throughout the book. You can tell he has a hard life and Lobo is finally able to provide the nudge… ok slap, Jeff needed to march in a better direction. Carla is your typical girl next door, she is thoughtful, kind, and beautiful with secrets all her own. She is able to ground Jeff’s rogue behavior and show him the possibilities that exist around him. Lobo, well Lobo is just amazing. You will have to read the book to find out more about this amazing man.

“All in all, this book was spectacular. It had just the right amount of paranormal, historical fact and action to keep you thoroughly engrossed start to finish. I would definitely suggest this book to all my friends especially those who want to learn more about Florida without having to read some stiff reference book .”

The Reality of ESP

The reality of esp

A review of  scientific evidence that verifies the paranormal.

The Reality of ESP: A Physicist’s Proof of Psychic Abilities

Author: Russell Targ

Pioneer in the development of the laser
Two awards from NASA
Cofounder of the program to investigate psychic abilities at Stanford Research Institute
Made presentations to the USSR Academy of Sciences
Author/coauthor of seven books on the scientific investigation of psychic abilities

Publisher: Quest Books

# of pages: 306

I’ve seen lots of references to Russel Targ’s work over the years but just recently I read this, his latest work. I am so glad I did.

If you ever want to read some of the most important information about paranormal abilities ever written, this is the book for you. Here Targ details the rigidly controlled scientific experiments he has conducted over the years that prove the existence of psychic powers. In his book he describes in detail working with top notch psychics under laboratory conditions that resulted in astounding statistics, statisitics that should change the minds of event the most ardent skeptics.

Most of Targs work involves remote viewing, where psychically talented and even average people are able to describe locations and even events at great distances. This includes finding people in hiding, super secret government facilities, a down Russian bomber in Africa and even the almost invisible rings of Jupiter before they were officially discovered. No wonder the CIA got interested in his efforts. In the end it was Targ and his associates who actually trained government operatives and the U.S military in such techniques while the USSR was doing the same type of thing.

Today, Targ conducts remote viewing training for the public. Yes, that’s right. The man correctly believes we all have such latent abilities and he proves it time and again by training average people to do the extraordinary.

Definitely read the book and recommend it to others. You won’t be sorry.

“A Promising Start to a Series”

Sliding - blogSliding Beneath the Surface

The St. Augustine Trilogy: Book I

Young adult, paranormal & historical

A review placed on Amazon by Lynn Worton from the UK.

“This is the first book in The St. Augustine Trilogy. It is certainly intriguing!

“Jeff Golden is a fifteen year old who is caught up in some scary paranormal events. He is scared and he enlists the help of his best friend, Carla, and a Shaman by the name of Lobo to get to the bottom of things.

“This is a fantastic YA paranormal horror that kept me on the edge of my seat. The story is told well, and has a fantastic flow. I’m not sure if the author was trying to tell a horror story, or give a history lesson though, as it went from an eerie and compelling tale into a brief foray into American history with a paranormal twist. I did, however, enjoy the story very much.

“I loved Jeff’s character, as he tried to come to terms with dealing with the paranormal events. I could see his emotional growth as events unfolded. The other characters were intriguing too, and I am looking forward to reading the remaining books in the trilogy.

“Doug Dillon has written a compelling tale that will capture the imagination of the reader, and take them on a journey filled with mystery, danger and intrigue. I recommend this book to younger readers (15+) and those who love YA, paranormal or horror genres.”

“Great Historical/SciFi book:)”

Sliding - blogSliding Beneath the Surface

The St. Augustine Trilogy: Book I

Young adult, paranormal & historical

A review placed on her blog, Goodreads and on Amazon by Cassie Chavez.

“This book was like no other it is a whole new world of something! I couldn’t really put in words how crazy it was! The things that happen in this book is unbelievable but you get to the point where you think in your brain “this could maybe happen” it may or may not be possible but it sure does mess with your head. This books have twists, turns, ups, and downs. It’s a whole new crazy and I guarantee you’ll love it! I usually don’t read books like this but I am very glad I did. I can’t wait to see what book two has in store for me!

“What I loved most is that this book grabs you in and takes you hostage to tell you a story it makes you want more and it is so unique and one of a kind. I can honestly say that this book is something you will read and probably not come across in any book!

“Jeff – He doesn’t believe what is right in front of his face! He has a great building of character but man if it was me I would literally “knock” some sense into his head! He is too logical, like myself but unlike me he doesn’t believe in things that can actually exist. I enjoyed his character and his silly ways of thinking. He does have a temper on him too.

“Carla – she is very logical too, the thing is, she was raised in the world to believe because it was brought on at such a young age that she had no choice. She is strong willed and controlling and I love that in female leads it makes them so much more fun! She is an awesome chick that could do so much in the world.”

“Well done YA paranormal story.”

Sliding - blog Sliding Beneath the Surface

The St. Augustine Trilogy: Book I

Young adult, paranormal & historical.

A review placed on Goodreads and Amazon by Sonia.

“I’m pretty hard to please with Young Adult paranormal books, but this one was very good.

“This is the story of 15-year old Jeff Golden discovering, accepting, and learning to use his psychic powers with the assistance of a shaman named Lobo and his friend, Carla Rodriguez. In the beginning of the story he is plagued by nightmares that keep him from sleeping at night. He shares this with Carla who introduces him to Lobo.

“Jeff learns about the supernatural cause of these nightmares and the three characters go on a paranormal adventure to a historic battle to deal with it. The battle isn’t fictional, and the obvious research that Dillon used in his descriptions of that conflict and its participants is impressive.

“Jeff is a likeable character, a typical teenage boy trying to do the right thing but resisting every inch of the way for most of the story. He learns many things in the course of the story. One is that he can control his reactions to things that happen in his life – a valuable lesson for anyone to learn.

“Carla is also very good character. She is sassy and strong and a good friend to Jeff. She has her own powers that Lobo helped her deal with previously, so she can relate to Jeff’s current dilemma and is eager to help him. I liked her very much.

“Lobo is a good character… stern, doesn’t smile, doesn’t like to be bothered. He is extremely wise about supernatural matters.

“Historical themes in fiction are hit and miss with me. Sometimes I find them hard to follow, but that was not the case here. Dillon’s account of historical events throughout the story were clear, easy to understand and engaging. His ability to connect history with the setting and Jeff’s life is impressive.

“I recommend this for a Young Adult reader, and I think that some adult readers would appreciate it as well … the book is well written, and fun to read.”

“Very Enjoyable. I couldn’t put it down.”

Sliding - blogSliding Beneath the Surface

The St. Augustine Trilogy: Book I

Young adult, paranormal & historical

A review placed on Goodreads and Amazon by Tina from

“Sliding Beneath the Surface is a very unique story filled with rich history, mystery and paranormal features. It only took me a few chapters before I was totally immersed into Doug Dillon’s world. Once I started to connect with the main characters, I couldn’t put it down.

“Jeff Golden, a troubled 15 year old, moves to St. Augustine Florida. He begins suffering from excruciating headaches and terrifying nightmares. Desperate for relief, he confides in his friend Carla Rodriguez. Lucky for Jeff, she introduces him to Lobo, her Native American and somewhat eccentric neighbor. Together they unlock the source of Jeff’s troubles and find they are linked to the past. Can they help Jeff to find peace or will he be swallowed whole by the chaos that lurks beneath the surface?

“This story is filled with detailed descriptions of St. Augustine. I had no problem visualizing Jeff’s adventures through the city. I am anxious to see what the author does with the next book in the trilogy. I will be reading it!!”
