form1__mg_3987 Although it may be too late to get yourself a 3D Printer in time for Christmas (unless you're willing to pay for overnight shipping), we thought it would be a good idea to have a discussion about which 3D Printer may be right for you. It's never too early to start thinking about options for an early 2014 gift, right?

New Project: SunBEAM Seeker Bot

right-side-profile BEAM robotics is about getting the most complex and interesting behaviors from the simplest circuits and components. The SunBEAM Seeker is a very simple LM386-based light-seeking robot based on Randy Sargent's classic "Herbie" BEAM design. Build this little bot and it will follow a black line traced on a white floor or, with the photosensors pointing upward as in this version, seek out the brightest light source in a room. It is also descended, in part, from our own Mousey the Junkbot, and adds a special tailwheel made from a roller-lever limit switch to make the robot automatically turn on when you set it down, and off again when you pick it back up.

3D Printed Fashion: Breathing Life into New Designs, Form, and Texture

foc_printed_shoes_cubex_1 How?

It’s the question that dogs the unceasing creative mind when it dares to speak louder than the stony voice of reality. inForm: An Ephemeral Construction Machine

Screen Shot 2013-12-16 at 2.03.38 PM Disruptive or revolutionary technology are terms that get tossed around rather liberally. But one look at the MIT Media Lab's inForm project and it's hard not think you are looking at the future. Combining elements of Kinect, 3D printing, and telepresence, inForm heralds something very new and, I dare say, revolutionary. inForm was a collaboration between research assistant Sean Follmer and Daniel Leithinger at Heroshi Ishii’s Tangible Media Group in the MIT Media Lab. What exactly is it and how might it be used? Jay Silver interviewed Sean Follmer to learn more.
