Where Are the Women in Makerspaces?

Photo by Corinne Warnshuis If you've been to your local hackerspace/makerspace and noticed there weren't many woman, did you stop to wonder why? Unfortunately a common reaction is to think, “I guess women just aren’t into hacking or building stuff.” As one of the few female directors of a U.S. makerspace, I know this just isn’t true. Here’s my perspective on the problem and what can be done about it.

Phoenixes Made from Construction Debris Flying Through NYC

phoenix_by_xu-bing Two giant Phoenix sculptures hang from the ceiling of Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan through 2014. They measure 90 and 100 feet long, weigh over 12 tons combined, and are made entirely from discarded material, tools, and machinery from construction sites in and around Beijing, China.
