Do You Like Me?
Yesterday evening my daughter was bemoaning the fact that her brothers were in the room. “But, Mama, I want to talk to you.” The emphasis on the word “talk” left no doubt that this was not a conversation to be had in front of brothers, so we went where all women go to talk away from the male species: the bathroom.

Swearing Underwater
"I just swore underwater."
Those were the words of my 14 year old when he hit his head on the side of the boat. My initial reaction was to laugh. I don't think I have ever heard him swear. After a while, I started thinking about this statement again. Does swearing underwater make it any less wrong? Should I have taken this opportunity to teach a lesson about sin being sin regardless of who sees or hears? Maybe, but I didn't.
How often is my own attitude the same. I said something judgmental, but it was just to a close friend. I lost my patience with the kids, but have you seen how they've been acting today?! I walked past someone who needed help because I'm busy, but I'm sure that someone else stopped. We make excuses or hope nobody sees the sins we commit. I often forget that God not only sees these actions (or lack thereof), but He even knows my innermost thoughts and desires of my heart.
It's times like this that I can't thank Him enough for the gift of grace! Sins can't be undone, but they can be repented. How comforting it is to know that He forgives us whether we have sinned for the world to see or in the private recesses of our own heart . . . and even when we swear underwater.

20th Century Ocean Liners
The Titanic, with its four funnels towering into the sky, redefined ocean liner standards in the early twentieth century. At a length of 882.5 feet, only Titanic’s sister ship Olympic could compare to her. She had a revolutionary sixteen watertight compartments in her hull, creating an almost unsinkable ship. When the term ocean liner is mentioned, this is what most people picture: the majestic Titanic launching from Southampton on her maiden voyage, which she would never complete.

Accident or Murder?
When William II, better known as William Rufus, was killed in New Forest in August of 1100, he was surrounded by people who had good reason for wishing him dead. Was it murder or just a happy accident?

Book Excerpt
No Such Thing As Perfect is officially a part of the Goodreads database, so you can add it to your to-read list and recommend it to your friends.
Below is a short excerpt that introduces you to the main character, 13 year old Collette. Enjoy!
Collette considered the full length reflection of herself in the mirror. For a moment she chewed on the inside of her cheek and wrinkled her forehead as she tried to decide if the outfit she had chosen was the right one. What appeared to be the entire contents of her closet were discarded on the bed and floor around her.
As her eyes moved up to her face, she stopped the chewing and made a mental note that she should certainly not make that face in public. Her hair was a color that she thought of as brown and her mother assured her was “almost auburn.” She admitted that in the summer some blond and reddish highlights became more visible, so she was glad that this first day of seventh grade was still technically during the summer months and her shoulder length hair was looking its best. She pulled the strands that she preferred to have covering part of her face into a metallic blue clip so that she wouldn’t look too shy. This was her chance to be a different person. New school. New friends. New Collette.
