5 Quick Fixes for a Bad Haircut

Girl with messy hair

It happens to best of us. You walk out of the salon unsatisfied with a hideous haircut that you'll probably wear under a hat or put up in a ponytail for months. But with these remedies, you can learn to love your botched cut until the next salon appointment.

Problem #1: It's too short.
To stretch your strands, straighten your locks with a flat iron. But if you really crave length, clip-on extensions are the answer.

Problem #2: You hate your bangs.
Try a deep side part and tame your fringe with a strong-hold hairspray or gel. You can also clip them with rest of your hair with a barrette or hairpin.

Problem #3: The bangs are too short.
Blunt, short bangs are edgy, but if you're not confident you can pull off this look, hide them under a thick, chic headband.

Problem #4: The layers aren't flattering and face-framing.
Simply spritz sea salt spray to add texture to your limp 'do. You can also curl the ends with a curling iron and put on hair pomade to fake dimension.

Problem #5: The sides are uneven.
Instead of snipping the uneven cut yourself, call your stylist and set another appointment to fix the mistake. They should give the service for free to correct the cut.

From Our Readers: To the Guy I Will Never Have

Liking you wasn't always a part of my plan. I shouldn't have done that to myself but I did.

When I first saw you, I thought you were just some random guy trying to make friends. You blend in with the rest of us, just like the regular freshmen we were in high school. It took a while before I got to know you. I knew your name and that was it. Time passed by and we got to know each other more. You always liked to tease me about how I look and that didn't matter to me because I just got used to your silly antics.

When you found out I had a crush on you, you didn't do what most guys would do—that is to keep their distance. You still talked to me like how a normal person would. You walked with me and took the long way even if your house was near the school. You helped me bring my bag. You sang with me. You would make faces with me. You wiped the tears off of my face when you saw me cry for the first time. And you held my hand so tight you never want to let go.

From Our Readers: Thank You For Breaking My Heart

You hurt me. You all hurt me in different ways that led to heartbreak, big or small. You made me suffer without a reasonable explanation. I did nothing to deserve the pain you've caused. Maybe it was meant to happen. Maybe it had to happen to give me a little taste of heartbreak and to prepare me for the worst possible pain to come.

You taught me to be more careful and to build walls and to put myself first. To make me realize that I deserve the best and that I should hold back to stop myself from jumping into something without assurance. You woke me up from the reality that love isn't easy and that the right guy isn't easy to find and that good things take time and are worth waiting for. It made me realize that not all guys are nice but there are a few who are nice enough to be just my friends.

Corn Tempura Balls

Get the ball rollin' with sweet, golden, crunchy corn tempura!

Makes about 12 balls

2 (250-gram) cans whole kernel corn, drained
oil, for deep-frying
ice cubes
1 cup store-bought tempura flour
1/2 cup ice-cold water
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons tempura flour

1 Place drained whole kernel corn in a medium bowl; refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2 Pour oil into a deep-frying pan until 3 1/2 inches deep; heat over medium heat. Meanwhile, place ice cubes in a large bowl and place bowl with corn on top of ice to keep corn cold.

3 Mix together tempura flour, ice-cold water, baking powder, and salt in another bowl; pour over corn and mix. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons tempura flour; mix until well combined.

4 Form mixture into golf ball-sized balls and drop into hot oil immediately. Deep-fry until golden brown, about 1 minute. If batter is thin and forming a ball is difficult, sprinkle corn mixture with a bit more tempura flour.

From Our Readers: To the Boy I'm Willing To Wait For

If only I'd ever known that I'd fall for you, I could've stopped myself right at that moment. But for now, I'm four months too late.

I've always tried to convince myself that boys of our age were total players who only go for the pretty and the popular; the ones who chase after girls who are not on the same level as they were, and become totally devastated by the mere fact that they will only get rejected in the end. That was pretty much how I saw our fellow guy batchmates. During that time, I never felt guilty about generalizing the opposite sex... All because of one guy who broke my heart. And from then on, I built these walls around me, to defend myself from boys who were probably just going to fool around with my feelings. I proudly saw myself as a man-hater which was ironic in my case, because from time to time, I went on liking one guy to another. Nothing really serious, just a few crushes for the same cliche reasons: Something to gossip over with the barkada, and someone to play the role of an ideal future husband in my daydreaming sessions. Never did any become the first thing that came into my head in the morning, nor the last thought before I always went to sleep... Until the day I met you on the first day of our senior year at high school.
