Exploring the murky depths of the Puerto Rican sea, scientists from around the world have found many previously undiscovered marine creatures.

The scientists captured the footage (video below) and streamed it online in real time using a camera attached to a remote-operated deep sea vehicle, allowing them to roam further down into the waters than if they had sent divers.

“We're able to be in contact with up to 40 scientists a day,” said co-lead scientist Andrea Quattrini

It was not due to conclude until the end of 2016, but the results of a huge new study into HIV treatment have been released early because they were so clear-cut: starting antiviral drug treatment earlier rather than later significantly slashes the likelihood of developing AIDS or other serious illnesses.

Health and Medicine

U.S. lab workers were in for a rather nasty surprise when the inactive spores they were expecting to receive ended up being samples of live anthrax. This colossal mistake may have affected nine labs across the U.S. and one military base in South Korea. Twenty-two people at the Osan Air Base in South Korea are receiving precautionary treatment, the defense department says. An investigation is currently underway.

Most People Think ‘Man’ When They Think ‘Scientist’ – How Can We Kill The Stereotype?

Editor's Blog

Ask a kid to draw a scientist, you’ll probably get a man in a lab coat. Yewhoenter, CC BY-SA

Children learn to associate science with men at early ages. Over 40 years ago, less than 1% of American and Canadian elementary school children drew a woman when asked to draw a scientist. My latest research, published in Journal of Educational Psychology, shows that gender-science stereotypes persist even now, worldwide.

Woman Meets The Man Wearing Her Dead Brother’s Face

Health and Medicine

60 Minutes Australia

When Rebekah Aversano’s brother was killed three years ago, she didn’t expect she’d ever get the chance to touch his face again. In a remarkable series of events that wouldn't have been out of place in the 1997 film Face/Off, Aversano saw her dead brother's face on another man. The emotional segment, which was filmed by 60 Minutes Australia, saw Rebekah meet Richard Norris—the man who received her dead brother’s face in a cutting-edge transplant surgery.
