New Comics, Old Comics and Autoptic
I’ve had some comics up on Spiral Bound, the classic How I Make my Comics, a comic about a humiliating heartbreak, a comic about John Porcellino, a comic about meditation, And a comic about teaching but more about footwear. Also on the New Yorker site is another humiliating heartbreak story. That’s what I get for putting myself out there. Also, this weekend I’ll be at the Autoptic Festival in Minneapolis. Tonight there will be a kickoff art show at the Light Grey Art Labs, which is at 118 E 26th St, Ste 101 Minneapolis, Minnesota, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
If you’re still hungry for more comics, there are some on my Instagram page, which are selections from my Patreon page.

Not July Diary
If you’re a long time follower, you might’ve noticed that there’s been no July Diary this year. I’m going to a meditation retreat soon, where I won’t be allowed to draw any comics, so I drew the annual comic in advance, in June, and posted it covertly on my Patreon account. I prefer to give my comics freely, and it’s not my favorite thing to put up a paywall, but I find that it suits my shyness and the personal exploration in my work. Also my financial needs. Here is one of the better pages from last month: [image error]

Oops, I Forgot That I Have a Blog!!!
Hello
Between my Instagram, Patreon, Facebook and occasional Twitter, I pretty much forgot to regularly update my blog.
Here are a couple events I’ll be doing in the next week:
-On Tuesday, June 12th The Hand of Comedy in Bushwick, hosted by Claudia Cogan. I’ll be performing a bunch of funny and probably inappropriate animal comics, kind of like the one below.
-Then on Thursday, June 14th I’ll be performing with the stellar line-up of Michael Kupperman, Lauren Weinstein and Ron Rege Jr. at Greenlight Bookstore. I’ll present a different set of comics for this one, less comedic, more dramatic.
-Ron Rege, Jr has a new book out and will also be doing an event at Desert Island on Wednesday, June 13th, to celebrate his new book, The Weaver Festival Phenomenon.
And if you haven’t seen it, I had a comic recently on the New Yorker shouts site, about Tinder, which seems to have struck a chord among all the lonely people everywhere. [image error]
-I’ve also had a couple comics featured on the comics site Spiralbound, and will have another one coming up there soon!
That’s about it for now!

Mini NYC Tour Next Week
Julia Wertz is in town promoting her amazing new book Tenements, Towers & Trash, and she’s invited me to celebrate with her. Also, I’m doing an event at Strand Books for the newest Best American Comics, guest-edited by Ben Katchor. Here is a schedule of events:
Monday, October 2nd: Panels to the People at Word Brooklyn with Julia, Lauren Barnett and me. Sorry, all you extraordinary people not on Facebook (how do you manage?), but I can only find a link there. But it’s at Word Brooklyn in Greenpoint,126 Franklin St, Brooklyn, New York 11222, from seven to nine.
Wednesday, October 4th: Best American Comics at Strand Books with Bill Kartalopoulos, Kim Deitch, Eli Valley, and Josh Bayer.
Thursday, October 5th: I’m not going to be part of this but I’ll be in attendance, and it will be a great show of very funny cartoonists: Tenements, Towers & Trash Book launch with Julia, Liana Finck and Emily Flake at Powerhouse Books
Saturday, October 7th: Lit Crawl Brooklyn with Julia, Leslie Stein and me at Die Stammkneipe, 710 Fulton St. 6-7 (I can’t find any media about this yet but let’s just all trust that it will happen, ok?)
Tenements, Towers & Trash is a beautiful, intricate, funny, treasure trove of a book about New York City, come and see for yourself!
Also, in case you missed it, here is the conclusion of my Paris Review Series.

SPX & BBF

This weekend I’ll be bussing down to Bethesda, Maryland to be part of the Small Press Expo on Saturday. I’ll be selling portraits, signing books at the Uncivilized Books table (H1-2) and at 4:30 PM will be in a panel moderated by Whit Taylor called World Building From Reality, with Ethan Rilly, Noah Van Sciver and Chris Kim.
Then on I’ll hop on a train back to Brooklyn for Sunday’s Brooklyn Book Festival, also at the Uncivilized Books table. At noon Ariel Gore will moderate a panel with me, Thi Bui and Julia Alekseyeva, called Mothers and Other Monsters.
With all the busing to and fro I’ll miss all of the festival parties, so I’ll be making a party of my table confinement. In the afternoons I’ll introduce a new, experimental artform which I call “drunk portraiture.”
Also, in case you haven’t seen it on social media, I’ve been doing a weekly murder serial comic for the Paris Review called Little Red and Big Bad.
