My List

One thing that I have come to understand clearly in my walk with God, is that sometimes it is easy to trust Him and sometimes it is easy to forget to trust him.

God, in his infinite wisdom, knows that. That is why he wants us to remember to remember how good He is.

Look at what He told Moses to do.

Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you went out from Egypt, from the house of slavery; for by a powerful hand the Lord brought you out from this place. And nothing leavened shall be eaten. On this day in the month of Abib, you are about to go forth. It shall be when the Lord brings you to the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall observe this rite in this month.

Exodus 13:3-10

I love what one scholar says of that passage.

Whatever they may become in the better times ahead, the people of Israel are never to forget what they were. Their plight in Egypt is described graphically as בית עבדים, literally, “house of slaves… Their rescue from that plight, they must recall, was made possible only by the strength of Yahweh’s power, attested by the whole range of the proof-of-Presence sequence of the ten mighty acts.

John I. Durham, Exodus, vol. 3, Word Biblical Commentary (Dallas: Word, Incorporated, 1987), 178.

And in another Passage it says

“Observe the month of Abib and celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Abib the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.

Deuteronomy 16/:1

The month of Abib was the first month of the year in the ancient Hebrew calendar. So, basically January.

God wanted them to remember where they came from (slavery) and who delivered them (God) because he knew that they would face challenges. And without their remembrance of how strong and powerful He is, they would easily give into despair.

We are in a new year. One that will be filled with both new joys and also new challenges. If we are to be able to face those challenges head on, then we must take time to remind ourselves of what Gods has done for us.

Consider writing a list of everything God has brought you through (or a partial list of the top things) and then looking at that list daily and thanking him for all that he has done.

This will build our faith armour and when faced with a decision, or an adversity, it will be easier to not despair and to walk through the open door that God has placed before you..

Keep Pressing

This memory came up today. It was from four years ago. At the time I was caring for my (then) two year old grandson, on top of full time grad school and taking care of my other family.

This is the worst grade I ever received as student in University. But I was so grateful for it, because I was so exhausted from caring, , cleaning, and studying that I found it impossible to learn anything.

Because of this, at the time, I thought I was not capable of learning a language.

Little did I know that God would lead me back to that same University for a second Masters and I would need to retake that class.

And this time I would receive an A in not only Hebrew 1, but Hebrew 2, and Hebrew readings (where we translater verses out of the Hebrew Bible) as well.

If you have failed at something it doesn’t mean that you will keep failing at it.

Remember you are “not starting from scratch, you are starting from experience.”

I am not sure who needs to hear this but don’t give up on your dreams, or what you feel God has lead you to do. You are capable, you have it in you.

If I can pass three Hebrew classes with A’s with my awful memory, you can accomplish can dreams what God has put
before you!

Keep Pressing!!!
