The Trump administration seems to have accidentally stumbled upon a means to weaponize America’s “exorbitant privilege.” The term, coined by Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, the French minister of finance in the 1960s and later, French president, expresses the benefits garnered by the United States from being the issuer of the international reserve currency. Violent Latino MS-13 Gang Sends Torturers into Minnesota
 
The Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area is a long way away from the home turf of Mexico’s Sinaloa drug cartel, but that didn’t stop three cartel enforcers from making their way up the region in an attempt to hunt down two teenagers they accused of stealing drugs and money from a stash house.The three enforcers were allegedly sent from Los Angeles to St. Paul on orders from the Sinaloa cartel to find the people who stole 30 pounds of methamphetamine and $200,000 from a stash house in St. Paul. The two teens that the cartel hit men snagged were tortured, had their lives and that that of their families threatened and were told to find the missing drugs or come up with $300,000 to compensate the cartel, according to court documents obtained by the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune newspaper.Read full article here.

Scientists develop "talking" clothes
 
Scientists at MIT have incorporated electronics into soft fabrics, potentially making it possible to produce clothing that communicates optically with other devices. Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US embedded high speed optoelectronic semiconductor devices, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs), within fibres that were then woven into soft, washable fabrics and made into communication systems. Cities Need to Prepare for Water Day Zero
 
Earlier this year ominous headlines blared that Cape Town, South Africa, was headed for Day Zero—the date when the city's taps would go dry because its reservoirs would become dangerously low on water. That day—originally expected in mid-April—has been postponed until at least 2019 as of this writing, thanks to water rationing and a welcome rainy season. But the conditions that led to this desperate situation will inevitably occur again, hitting cities all over the planet.
