Reading the Bible in Nazi Germany: Gerhard von Rad’s Attempt to Reclaim the Old Testament for the Church*
BERNARD M. LEVINSON
Berman Family Chair of Jewish Studies and Hebrew Bible University of Minnesota
From 1933 until 1945, the Hebrew Bible and the connection between Christianity and Judaism came under attack in Nazi Germany. Gerhard von Rad defended the importance of the Old Testament in a courageous struggle that profoundly influenced his interpretation of the book of Deuteronomy.

It's called Thanksgiving for many reasons

Washington celebrating Thanksgiving at Mt. Vernon
When President George Washington issued the first Thanksgiving Proclamation under the U.S. Constitution on October 3, 1789, he was continuing an age-old tradition but adding a uniquely nationalistic slant. The United States had recently emerged victorious from a long and bitter war with the greatest power in the world, and its leaders were deeply immersed in creating a bold system of government that would ensure and protect the rights of its citizens. It was indeed a propitious time to give thanks. Continue to full article.

Comment on Truth from the Gospel of John

William Temple 1881-1944Truth is the perfect correlation of mind and reality; and this is actualized in the Lord's Person. If the Gospel is true and God is, as the Bible declares, a Living God, the ultimate truth is not a system of propositions grasped by a perfect intelligence, but is a Personal Being apprehended in the only way in which persons are ever fully apprehended, that is, by love. The Incarnation is not a condescension to our infirmities, so that 'Truth embodied in a tale' may enter in at the 'lowly door' of human minds. It is the only way in which divine truth can be expressed, not because of our infirmity but because of its own nature. What is personal can be expressed only in a person--Bishop William Temple from Readings in St. John's Gospel

4 reasons why porn must disappear; not change

As with any addiction, the brain always wants more, harder, more intense. Saying that one can actually change the likings of the enormous mass of consumers towards a kind of porn that is non-violent and non-sexist, is a lie.

Is the Bible Just Another Book?

Theologian and Southern Baptist preacher, Dr. Steve Lawson, offers an apologia for the Bible during a Christian conference a few years ago. If you can get past his stilted gestures and whiny nasal drawl, it's actually not a bad talk. WARNING: He's a screecher preacher!

Ann Coulter Explains the History of the 14th Amendment

THE TRUE HISTORY OF MILLSTONE BABIESOctober 31, 2018
Having mastered fake news, now the media are trying out a little fake history.

In the news business, new topics are always popping up, from the Logan Act and the emoluments clause to North Korea. The all-star panels rush to Wikipedia, so they can pretend to be experts on things they knew nothing about an hour earlier.

Such is the case today with "anchor babies" and "birthright citizenship." People who know zilch about the history of the 14th Amendment are pontificating magnificently and completely falsely on the issue du jour.

If you'd like to be the smartest person at your next cocktail party by knowing the truth about the 14th Amendment, this is the column for you!

Of course the president can end the citizenship of "anchor babies" by executive order -- for the simple reason that no Supreme Court or U.S. Congress has ever conferred such a right.

It's just something everyone believes to be true.  Continue to full article.
