A short synopsis of The Clashes of Tarn
Trapped below the surface of the Earth after a worldwide catastrophe, Tanner Styles, discovers a civilization that has remained virtually unseen for centuries.
Human and animal populations of the Earth are now on the brink of total extinction. Given a one time chance, Tanner and the leader of this lost tribe step forward in an attempt to instill, among the remaining populations of the Earth, an ancient idea.
This idea has been long abused, but forever dreamed of in the minds of those who have lived.
Can this idea be achieved? To change deeply ingrained ways of thinking, that have brought about only the destruction of the Earth and many other planets in the known galaxies, Tanner must endure the inevitable truths that must be faced in The Clashes Of Tarn.

"Wonders"
A poem I had published a few years back.
How can a man,
with such scar-ridden and broken dreams.
Expect to know true,
Is in his next chances heart beams.
Will the walls go away,
and leave him standing alone.
Will she bust open his heart,
with long sought after tones.
Will he see the things,
he almost gave up on finding.
Will they be true from her heart.
and not to her burdensome or binding.
Will he know shes the one.
whom hes longed and dreamed for.
Will she stand him up tall,
and open a new door.
Will he know he lives up to,
what her heart desires.
Will his heart allow,
the re-kindling of fires.
Will he be able,
to right any wrong.
For her in her life,
that may come along.
With only a kiss,
or the touch of his hand.
Will she know she is loved,
more than the beaches have sand.
Will they always know
without doubt or question
There is undying deep love,
and an un-nerving attraction.
Will life ever give,
such a sought after wish.
He fears that his past life,
will rid him of this.
Will he be able,
to honor her love.
And put aside the fears,
in the questions above.
He has hope and he prays,
that someday in his future.
That she is able to come,
with a needle and sootcher.
And mend all the holes,
and cracks in his heart.
And she will know that hes loved her,
right from the start.
And they will never be burdened,
with thoughts of leaving.
Just molding a new life,
entangled in each other and forever interweaving.
I think they will know
soon after they first meet.
As sure as I'm setting,
here on this seat.
They will say THIS IS THE ONE,
I'll spend life with till death!
And they will cherish life together,
till their last dieing breath.

I cant help it.
For the most part, in my reading, I have always looked for adventure and mystery, whether it be in the form of Historical Fiction, Sci/Fi, Fantasy, or any of the sub-genres of the above mentioned. I recall as a boy, reading the adventures of the Hardy Boys, and being so fascinated by their exploits. I was an avid fan of the cartoon series Johnny Quest. I remember picturing myself as being Johnny's side kick. My imagination has grown throughout the years, and I have noticed when looking back, how I have always been an explorer and adventurer by heart. It seems though that this longing can only be abated (and only for a short while) by certain types of simple adventure. Writing has helped alleviate some of the need for discovery and adventure. I can create the worlds in my Sci/fi Fantasy novels that would in my minds eye, fill the void, so to speak. An avid outdoorsman, I have always found solice in the forests of this great land. The more remote, the better. Caves, canyons, hollars, steep rock covered ridges, swamps, rock climbing to places where not many dare to go, vast stretches of land that are not trod much by modern man, the search for evidence of ancient civilizations in the form of native american artifacts, the visualization of a vast river basin in this day then trying to place in my mind what it would have looked like 20 to 30,000 years ago, riding a good horse into a stretch of un-spoiled wilderness for hours on end. I wonder if anyone else ever looks at these things in the same manner and if these simple adventures take others into the same realms they do me. Another thought that intrigues me, and there seems to be several theories on this. What about the possibility of undiscovered civilizations that live below the surface of the Earth. WOW! I'm there! _Mike Compton

Words from afar
Take heed little children
lest what you hold dear.
Be taken way from you
with not the shedding of tear.
A phrase or warning that was given to me, or for others, in a perfect vision during sleep of night. It has now become a basis for how I try to look at my circumstances that will follow everyday happenings. Any thoughts or comments are welcome. _Mike Compton
