Through the rabbit hole...
It's been about a week or so since I've last written to you all, my apologies. Between school, work, children and some much needed sleep, it's been difficult to get back into the swing of things. Not to mention the terrible allergies right now; pollen counts are ridiculous!
Anyway, there are several things going on this month that I wanted to make everyone aware of so here we go!
1. Another ebook giveaway
2. I'll be holding a vote on the cover for Binding Secrets, the sequel to Cursed Secrets
3. New selling feature for my fav books from my website
4. Official Binding Secrets blurb to be posted on my website
5. Q&A with some of your favorite characters from the Legacy of Secrets! (new series title) :)
So far, these are the main points on my agenda. To submit a question for the Character Q&A you can click here! Any and all information regarding me and my books can be found at my website. Of course, none of this would be possible if it wasn't for my friends at BookRix who helped make my book a bestseller! Love you guys!
It's been great chatting with you all...xoxoxo!

What dreams feel like...(with special preview)
With one book giveaway down, one ongoing and a few more to come, I'm honestly feeling good about this new career thus far. I've had the pleasure of working with the wonderful people at BookRix and they've been incredibly kind in helping to promote Cursed Secrets. Whatever events occurred that ended up bringing me down this path, I am truly thankful.
I've been steadily watching my Amazon stats rise, gaining a better following on Twitter & Facebook and connecting with so many readers on Goodreads. I am humbled by the kind words and excited that I'm sharing something I love with the world. Each day, I delve further and further into my dream.
It's definitely surreal to start from nothing and end up being a bestseller, no matter which platform it may be on. I wouldn't have thought in a million years that things would have happened this fast. I can't say I'm complaining, though!
As a means of saying thank you, I'm going to include a small excerpt from Binding Secrets, the sequel to Cursed Secrets that will be out later this year. The book cover is currently in development and will be released this summer for all of you to see and comment on :).
Lia
"Do you want me to wait
in the car?" he asked.
"No. I'll feel better
with you there, I think," I answered hesitantly.
"Okay. Do you need a
minute?" he grazed my arm with his fingertips lightly, sending a shock through
my system.
I grasped the door
handle, trying to steady the surge that threatened to overtake me. His breath
caught, but he continued brushing my arm ever so lightly.
"Why are you torturing
me?" I asked through clenched teeth.
"Perhaps I torture myself
more," he breathed into my ear. My heart skipped a beat.
"How do you figure?" I
whispered while refusing to look at him.
"Because I feel what we
both feel. Right now, it's very hard
not to act on those feelings," he answered and leaned even closer.
"I thought you have
remarkable self control," I smirked.
Christian
Her lips were enticing.
No matter how hard I tried to pull away, I was drawn closer in anticipation. I
knew she had no idea what my feelings were, but she should. Yet the nagging fear
left me reeling for a way to stop myself before I caused more damage.
"I try," I breathed in
her scent, effectively killing my resolve.
"Why?" she inclined her
head toward me, still avoiding my eyes.
"I don't want to lose
you, Lia. I'll admit I'm afraid, but only because The Council will see you as
more of a threat if we are together. You have to realize my decision isn't
about my feelings for you. I promised I would do whatever I could to help. If
saving your life means I can't be with you than I don't have much of a choice,"
I turned her face toward mine, searching her eyes for understanding I
desperately hoped I would find.
"Let me worry about
staying alive. I haven't been given the chance to make any decisions since this
all started, Christian. You can try to make me feel better, but I know why you
don't want to be with me," she whispered.
"You still think I don't
want you?" I tried not to show the pain.
"I'm not sure what to
think sometimes, but it doesn't change how I feel," she watched me carefully.
"It's very hard not to
kiss you right now," I ran my thumb softly across her bottom lip. "I dream
about these lips."

Cloud 9...and a half!
Some amazing things have happened this week! I was given a pretty awesome review by my friends over at BookRix, my book sales have been almost doubling each day, and I've gotten many kind words from those who've read it.
It's truly indescribable how all of this feels, but I want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who's taken the time to read and comment on Cursed Secrets. During this whole process, I've been rather hesitant...okay, I won't lie, I've been totally freaked by the entire thing!
Years of writing poems on any scrap of paper I could find and stashing them in notebooks definitely didn't prepare me for this! I'm incredibly humbled by the kindness and excitement my readers have conveyed in just a few short weeks. I'm more motivated than ever to finish up book two for everyone to continue the journey!
Please keep up with my website, Facebook, and Twitter for updates. All of these profiles are linked from my blog as well as just about everywhere else :). If you have comments you'd like to post about my books, please feel free to do so. I value everyone's opinion (yes, even if it's bad!).
Again, thank you all and have a great weekend! :)

Just breathe :)
With Cursed Secrets finally being published, I've been taking a bit of a break. I'm trying to concentrate on school and a bit more time with my family, but I can't help when I'm bitten by the writing bug :). Recently, I've had a story churning in my mind. I've written a small part, literally the only piece of this story that is available, and I figured I'd share it with all my people! Follow the break to read!
"Whatever you do, don't open that door", he whispered.
"There's no other way out. We can't stay here forever!"
"We'll stay as long as we need to. If you open that door, you'll let them in or at the very least, they'll know we're here. Do you want all our deaths on your hands?"
My heart hammered in my chest. I wanted to run. Getting far away from this place was all I could think about. Stumbling through the debris of a broken town wasn't my idea of a welcome home.
"What do you expect me to do? Sit here and starve to death?"
"Honestly, I don't care. If you open that door, either I'll kill you or they will. It's that simple."
The barrel pressing into the back of my head definitely got my attention. This guy was insane! My knees buckled and I slumped heavily to the floor. He spit in the corner before sitting beside me on the floor.
"What's your name?"
"Willow Greene. What's going on? I don't understand why I'm being held here."
"Well Willow, we're in a fine mess. My name is Collin Reed. I take it you don't watch the news much?"
"The last thing I remember is being on the shuttle. I've been living in the space station and we've received distress calls, but lost communication. Entering the atmosphere was rough on our transport and I think we crashed. The next thing I know I wake up strapped to a table in a room I've never seen before. I tried asking the doctors what happened, but they treated me like some type of criminal. I don't know where my crew is or even if they are alive. I haven't set foot on Earth in nearly a decade and I come back to this. What happened?"
"We were compromised a few years ago. Somewhere down the line, our transmissions were intercepted by E.T.'s. A toxin was released into our atmosphere, creating a pandemic. It escalated so quickly there was nothing we could do. The result is what lies beyond those doors."
"What type of pandemic?"
"We don't know. We couldn't test it. Since, we've tried testing the ones we could catch, but the disease has mutated. It's almost impossible to find someone who is new to the infection to test. We've all been exposed."
"That doesn't make any sense. It shouldn't matter if the disease progresses, the initial virus holds the same compound. Otherwise, we would have never been able to diagnose any diseases."
"What exactly did you do on the station, Willow?"
"I did a little bit of everything. I was specially trained in combat and piloting, but all of us were taught a bit of Science. It's not my strong point, but I'm not terrible at it either. Why do you ask?"
"We need people who can help and you fit the profile. You're a professional, that's what we need."
"What makes you think I'd help after you just put a gun to the back of my head?"
"Because we might be able to get to the station. I'm sure you'd rather not be stuck here among the diseased when your shiny home is waiting for you," he laughed gruffly.
"How do you think we'd get to the station? We'd need a shuttle that is fairly sturdy and exceptionally fast."
"Stick around and you'll find out. Now, if you want some chow we gotta get you cleaned up. You can't go to dinner looking like that," he spit in the corner again.
"Whatever you do, don't open that door", he whispered.

Butterflies!!!
I've been working diligently to complete the last read through of my book with the aim of publishing this weekend. Every free second I get, I'm editing and polishing it up for you all!!! The closer it gets, the more the butterflies seem to be taking a permanent residence in my belly :-). While feedback has been incredible, I never imagined myself to actually be taking this step toward my dream. It's an amazing feeling!
Recently, I've had an awesome turnout on my Facebook Fanpage and I'm hoping the "likes" keep coming! I've also started a forum for other Indie Authors on my website, where we can all share information and showcase our writing and links to our work. With so many things in motion right now, I can honestly say that I can't wait to get back to writing again :-).
As of right now, I'm planning to have the sequel to Cursed Secrets published in the fall of this year, but nothing is set in stone as of yet. Unfortunately, I don't have a title for book 2, but I know it will follow in the same fashion. I'm hoping to bring you all some good stuff to read and talk about :-). Stay tuned!!!

New website, new possibilities
So my new website has been completed. I've also given the opportunity for other writers to partake in advertising their work and themselves on my site. I know how difficult it is to get the word out as an indie author, so I've decided it's worth my while (and theirs) to help out my people. Publication is so close I can almost taste it, although it is sometimes bitter from the many tribulations my fellow authors have had with gaining a fan-base. Much luck to all of my friends and I hope you'll check out my site!

Sights and Sounds
So over the past few weeks, I've discovered quite a bit about what it means to be an indie author. Not only must you put up with criticism (good and bad) from your peers and readers, but you must also be able to carry a load the size of Texas on your back. Between writing, editing, marketing, blogging, networking, and publishing things get a bit crazy.
But there is a silver lining. Some of it is...dare I say fun? Recently I've been working with my very talented graphic artist on a book trailer. For those of you who don't know, this is like a movie trailer for a book. Author R. Lynn's book trailer for The Descendants is a great example of a good book trailer:
Since R. Lynn was so kind to refer me to my wonderful graphic artist, I can also trust her judgement on what makes a great trailer! So stay tuned folks, the finish product should be out soon. In the mean time, enjoy this book trailer and keep an eye out for R. Lynn. She's taking the place by storm! ;)

Decisions, decisions...
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this book would be as exciting as it is exhausting! Every time I turn around, there's something else for me to do or another decision to be made. But, it's what I've signed up for and I'm not turning back now.
So, my new website is now available. There are links to my blog and other work I've done. I've also linked my Twitter, Facebook, and Goodreads (as I've done on here). Most of all, the website will be the hub of all of my books from here on out. There will be another book released later this fall in this series, but as of right now there is no name.
The first decision I've made is to sell Cursed Secrets on Barnes & Noble first. For those of you who do not have a Nook reader, the app can be downloaded for free. I will be releasing the book for a few weeks, then I will also have it available on Amazon and for the Kindle. I will be doing book giveaways at some point. I'm pretty sure they will be signed paperback copies (more on this after P.O.D. publication).
For updates, please follow my blog or at the very least on Twitter and Facebook . Thank you guys, so much, for reading and being a part of this journey with me. <3 you all!!!

We cool?
How do you critique authors? Do you speak honestly or try to spare their feelings? Should writing be considered as strict of an art as others? You have to give reviews to get reviews, so should you be nice or honest?
I have to say that I struggle with these questions. While attempting to review the works of my peers, I find myself wondering what type of criticism I should lend. I cannot lie and say that while reading (no matter if it's a rough draft) I'm constantly thinking of rephrasing sentences, spell checks, punctuation errors, etc. I try to be subjective, but my brain doesn't exactly work that way. So where do I go from here?
I want to be a part of the community and contribute, but I also cannot go against my urges as a writer. What is an acceptable way to tell someone they need A LOT of work without sounding like a jerk? For instance, I would rather have people be honest with me, but not in a "bashing" type of way. I want to know what needs improvement or where things fell flat. I want to know about typos and other formatting errors. I want to know whether I'm even close to being on the right track. However, as anyone else who's been writing knows, it's a growing process. Just because your first few stories or poems are poorly put together, doesn't mean it was necessarily bad.
*Sigh*
What would you do?
