Exerpt of MJ Kane's Debut Novel!

The
song ended, and I opened my eyes to cheer with the rest of the crowd. I
was noticed all right. Various men in my immediate vicinity threw out
catcalls and whistles, which were flattering, but the drummer paid me no
attention. In fact, no one in the band seemed to notice me, except for
one man.
One
of the guitar players watched me intently. Astonished, I nearly
stumbled in my heels. He was attractive but… he was white, not what I
was aiming for. My lips tilted in a small smile before I moved out of
his line of sight, placing myself in front of dancers who’d moved closer
to the stage blocking my view of the drummer.
The
next song played, and again, I tried to get lost in the music. My eyes
closed, it was impossible to find my groove again without feeling
stalked. The hair on the back of my neck stood up, drawing my attention
down the length of the stage and to the guitar player, who once again,
watched me with a predatory gleam in his eye. When the song ended, I
worked my way back to the bar.
Neither Yasmine nor Kaitlyn were there. They must have gone to the bathroom.
“What can I get you, miss?” the bartender asked, interrupting my thoughts.
Music from the loud speakers blasted again, after the MC announced the band was taking a brief intermission.
“Margarita, extra shot of tequila, please.” The bartender nodded and went to fill my order.
“Did you get a load of the blond guitar player? He’s hot!”
My
attention turned to a busty brunette who’d taken up temporary residence
in the empty seat next to me. I recognized her as being one of the
women who’d been dancing next to me. She adjusted her boobs, primping
while talking to her friend.
“He doesn’t know it yet, but I’m going home with him tonight,” she continued. Her friend giggled.
Good luck. She had a better chance than I did of finding a man tonight.
“Here you go.” The bartender placed a napkin in front of me with my drink.
“I’ve
got this,” a deep voice said close to my ear, making me jump. It was
incredibly sexy despite the fact it scared me. It also sent a warm
tingle down my spine. Intrigued, I turned and found myself face-to-face
with the guitar player. The same one my barstool neighbor wanted to go
home with.
Any sort of coherent words failed me.

MJ Kane- Guest Author!
MJ Kane
New Release- A Heart Not Easily Broken (September 20, 2012)
M.J.
Kane stumbled into writing. An avid reader, this stay at home mom never
lost the overactive imagination of an only child. As an adult she made
up stories, though never shared them, to keep herself entertained. It
wasn’t until surviving a traumatic medical incident in 2006 that she
found a reason to let the characters inhabiting her imagination free.
Upon the suggestion of her husband, she commandeered his laptop and
allowed the characters to take life. It was that, or looking over her
shoulder for men caring a purple strait jacket. And the rest, as they
say, is history.
What's your favorite thing about being a writer?
Being
able to get the people that inhabit my mind out on paper! For years
I’ve gone to bed at night with scenes (well, I didn’t think of them as
scenes at the time) replaying over and over in my head while I waited to
go to sleep. I had no idea that the stories I made up would ever become
something to write about!
Why do you think someone should choose your books over another author?
I
don’t want anyone to choose me over any other author, but I do want to
be an author that a reader chooses. There are so many stories to be
told, and so many different ways to tell them…as a new author I want
someone to give me a chance and not push my book away because they
prefer another author. Before I stared writing, I was one of those who
read the same authors faithful without giving anyone else a chance. The
minute I dropped that mindset, I found myself exposed to a wider variety
or stories, unique and different writing styles and voices. Expanding
my reading expanded my mind. I wish for my readers to do the same.
What do you hope readers take with them after reading one of your stories?
I
want my readers to understand that no matter what our backgrounds are,
or where we are from, someone somewhere is experiencing the same thing
that you are, good and bad. What matters most is how we deal with those
experiences. Everyone may not have the love and support they need to
help them make the decisions best for them. Reading how my characters
endure, overcome, and evolve into stronger individuals due to the
obstacles I put in their path is what I wish all my readers will learn.
The ability to evolve into more is something that is possible in all of
us.
What's something your fans may find fascinating about you?
I
survived a series of strokes in 2006 that nearly killed me. I was in
ICU for two weeks, and paralyzed on one side of my body for several
days. Every time I meet someone and say that, they think I’m lying.
Believe me, I lived through it, it’s not an experience I would make up
or wish on anyone! The fact that I have been able to recover and
discover a talent for writing and to have gotten published is a
blessing. There are many authors out there who have strived to get to
this level for years and are still trying. Since surviving the stroke,
I’ve learned a lot about me and what I can overcome. That is why I focus
on the ability to overcome life’s adversities in my stories.
Has your life changed significantly since becoming a published author?
Uh,
no, other than being a lot more tired by the end of the day! I still
get up and drop people off at school and work. Still have to make sure
the bills get paid, homework done…lol, the wife/ mother duties never
change. If anything, I’ve made myself busier! Every day is a struggle to
remain on task and find a schedule that works. Since I am not the best
at scheduling or staying on task, it’s always a challenge. I’ll get it
down eventually!
MJ's upcoming releases include:
A Heart Not Easily Broken, Book One of the Butterfly Memoirs, will be published September 20th as and eBook, October 4th, in paperback.
~AND~
Jaded, Book Two of the Butterfly Memoirs will be available March 2013. Look for a excerpt at the end of A Heart Not Easily Broken!

What is beautiful???
Are the thin models from TV and magazines beautiful? Are the big women who are proud of their curves beautiful? What makes someone beautiful, really? I've struggled for a long time with this question, mainly pertaining to myself. Should I feel beautiful if I know I'm overweight?
Here's my story:
I got pregnant at 17 with baby #1, married my now ex-husband a few months after our son was born and was a stay-at-home mom for about year. No matter what I did, I couldn't lose the baby weight (which was tremendous) and I tried like hell. Finally, I just gave up and had to deal with my weight being stagnant at about 170lbs. But I was wrong. Baby #2 comes along two years later and I was in the same boat again. Except my ex and I separate and now, at age 20, I have a two year old and an infant and having to provide for them myself. I picked up smoking, partly to deal with food craving and the other part to deal with stress, and that was the only way I didn't gain more wait...for a while.
I went on a diet towards the end of 2011 and lost 30lbs in roughly four weeks. It wasn't as much as I wanted to lose, but it definitely helped. However, eating healthy costs money and so does smoking. At the time, it was more important to control the cravings, so I fell off the diet wagon and continued smoking (not the best choice, I know).
Which brings us to August 2012, when I decided to quit. I knew I'd be struggling with my weight even more after because I would often replace food cravings with cigarettes. So, of course, I started munching away on crap almost as soon as I quit. The cigarettes were an easy habit to kick, the food...not so much. So, here I am, a month and a half later. I have probably gained about five pounds, but I feel like it's 105. My clothes fit a little tighter and I feel like wearing sweats and t-shirts all the time, which is impossible since I work in an office. I refuse to buy new clothes because the ones I have are fairly new. So what do I do? The only thing I can do...DIET.
The worst four letter word in the dictionary has just been uttered and millions of Americans are now cowering in the corner. Relax, I'm not going to preach about what food to eat or how to cook it. I'm simply going to talk about what my plans are and feel free to chime in if you have suggestions or comments.
First, I use this really great *free* app called MyFitnessPal. It helps you keep track of your food, weight, exercise and calories. It also breaks down each meal with the necessary nutritional information so you can see what type of food you're taking in (i.e. carbs, protein, etc.).
In addition to that, I use KraftRecipes to find ideas for food I can make that are healthier. They even have yummy desserts that I've been wanting to try, but getting away from the computer is hard lol. But it's also free to join this site and they also have an app you can download to look up recipes and save them to your account for use later. While we're on the recipe subject, Pinterest is a great website for this. I often find wonderful things on there and I encourage folks to follow me if they're looking for delicious food. I post it a lot! :)
Exercising is my downfall and has been since I started driving. My grandmother always used to warn me against "car legs", but I paid no mind. Guess I should have, huh? So my plan for this is simple: use the methods from our old JROTC class in high school. I was in the best shape of my life for the first three years I was in school because of JROTC and the discipline and drive it taught me. Every day I'd come home and run/walk/jog two miles before doing homework and eating dinner or going to work. I wanted to be fit and able, not fat and frumpy.
I spend so much time behind a computer, it's no wonder I've gained so much weight. I don't know how long I'll be actually dieting, but I want to do my best to share this journey with you all. I'm going to keep a ticker on this blog for the weight-loss and hopefully, I don't fall off the wagon again. With the holidays coming up, I don't want to completely blow up! If you don't see any progress, yell at me, call me names, poke me, do whatever you can to put me back on track. I won't share right now how much I'm wanting to lose, so we'll both be surprised when I get there!
In short (sort of), I don't feel beautiful most days. My wonderful boyfriend never hesitates to tell me I'm wrong, and I love him for that and so much more, but it's hard to change a perception that's been practically burned into my brain for the last six years. I need a change, so here it is. I want to be that girl I was ten years ago and I'm taking the steps to make that happen. So, here's what I had for dinner tonight as part of my diet:

So what's beautiful to you? If you already feel beautiful, how did you do it?

Haircuts, rubber snakes and sparkly shoes!
It's been a rather uneventful weekend, but that hasn't necessarily been a bad thing. My boys and I had a few things to get done today, so we first set off to buy new sneakers for school. It's funny how those little foot measuring things are completely off. With both boys the size was almost two smaller than what they actually needed. I finally got them situated when I spotted these beauties:
LOVE! I wanted to buy them so badly, but I had to refrain from this impulse buy. Being a one income household means I have to buy what my boys need before I can get what I want. Plus, I'd have to buy a new outfit go match these and this week's bill aren't all paid yet! It's a shame, too. They looked really good on me! :(
Sighing heavily, we left the shoe store and headed to the Great Clips. The boys got their hair cut and some lollipops and as a reward for their good behavior, we then went to the dollar store for some prizes. Now I don't know where you all shop, but there's a retail chain called Dollar Tree here and everything in the store is literally $1.00. It's a great place to get things for the kids to do without breaking the bank.
So, we picked up a take-a-long chalk board, rubber snakes, slinky-eye glasses, pirate garb, knight's bracers, Jack O' Lantern cups with straws and left happy. The best part was that I didn't spend a lot on the toys and they've got a variety to keep them occupied. All in all, shopping trips/errands were a success.
Anyway, I have some more writing to do before homework (yipee o.O) so it will be a nice busy evening for me. I say that as if every evening isn't busy! Stay tuned on Wednesday for another guest author as the blog tour continues. After the tour is over (9/30), I'll be posting an extra special blog (or two) with some pretty big announcements and some goodies. Tune in to Facebook and Twitter for updates and sneak peeks. I promise you won't be disappointed!!
Ta-ta for now!!

M.O Kenyan- Guest Author!
M.O Kenyan
Available now: Shades of Spring 1964: Letters to My Daughter
Twenty
three year old Kenyan girl with a little world in her head. When you
have so many voices in your head people may describe you as a
schizophrenic, but in the literary world, I am a story teller dying to
share with the world the many stories going on inside my head.
Follow the jump for more about M.O!!
What genre(s) do you write?
I
write Romance and Fantasy. It’s easier to make two people from
different worlds and with different personalities fall in love. And
creating a beautiful guy who suddenly turns green is awesome too.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The
hardest part would be keeping in touch with reality. Even in writing fantasy I want to keep close to reality. The last thing I want is a reader
to go like, “ O h please, are you serious!”
Do you write under more than one name? Why?
I
write fictional romance under M.O Kenyan, and although my fantasy books are
yet to be published, I write under M.O Knight. I think it’s important
for the re to be separate names for separate genres. It helps the
audience distinguish which genre the book is written in without having to
read the back cover.
What books or authors have most influenced your life?
Nora Roberts, Stephanie Meyers, Nicki Charles, Brenda K. D avies, Stephanie Meyer, Ruth Ann Nordin and the list goes on.
Please tell us five miscellaneous things about yourself!
I
am impatient, and when someone gives me a bad impression that’s what
sticks with me. I like getting someone committed to my work as much as I
am. If I don’t I lose interest.
Are there any future projects or upcoming releases?
I
have a number of books that I am now comfortable with querying. (The Mara Song- valentine themed). Right now I am writing a book called One Percent. It’s about a woman who only knows how to interact with life by
measuring her odds.
Keep an eye out for more from M.O Kenyan! Current novel, Shades of Spring 1964: Letters to My Daughter, available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble & Smashwords with prints available soon!

Carmen DeSousa- Guest Author!
Carmen DeSousa
Entangled Dreams- New Release in September 9, 2012
While
Carmen DeSousa does not write "Christian" books, she does share her
characters' Christian beliefs. Her characters are real people who come
with real flaws; no perfect people allowed.
She
characterizes her stories as modern-day fairytales, as they are
overflowing with romance, mystery, suspense, and of course, tragedy.
After all, what would a fairytale be without a tragic event setting the
stage? All of her novels are sensual, but not erotic, gripping but not
graphic and will hopefully make you cry, laugh, love, and hope.
Both of her published novels, She Belongs to Me and Land of the Noonday Sun, have reached bestseller status right alongside Nicholas Sparks, J.D. Robb, and other great authors. Her third novel, Entangled Dreams, releases September 2012.
Follow the jump for more about Carmen!!!
Carmen is a Florida native author of Romance-Suspense novels. A life-long writer, she was destined to publish. Alas, her destiny was fulfilled in 2010 when she indeed published her first novel. Let's see what she has to say about her publishing journey...
What is your favorite part about being a writer?
I
love being able to create characters that reach into a reader’s soul,
making them feel as if they are living and breathing individuals.
What do you hope readers take with them after reading one of your stories?
Above all, love and hope. My stories are about overcoming adversity and finding a way to live again.
How do your family and/or friends feel about your book or writing venture in general?
Shocked
the heck out of the ones I told. I kept it a secret for two years until
I decided to publish. Yep, even my husband didn’t know.
When not writing, how do you relax?
Is this a rhetorical question? Read, of course. ☺
Are there any future projects or upcoming releases?
I have two follow up novels my readers might be interested in.
Split Decisions is the follow up to She Belongs to Me
When Noonday Ends is the follow up to Land of the Noonday Sun
Love Like Crazy is my first young adult, which I believe adult readers will still enjoy.
A very special release is out in print tomorrow, September 9, 2012.

Alright, so I lied
Each time I write a post, I always promise to post again soon. Obviously that doesn't happen and I can't figure out why it's so hard for me! It's true, I'm rather busy, but I am also not a very interesting person. I have regular every day problems and irritations (which I don't think any of you care about) and nothing really stands out. Really, the only interesting thing I do is write. But how do you write about writing?
That's where my problem lies. I strive for deadlines, marketing, editing, meetings and such and for some reason I don't feel like any of those things interest you guys. I mean, do you really want to know how many words I write a night? Or that one of my sons had a bad day in school? Or how about what type of paper I have to write for my current class? Lol...I didn't think so.
Needless to say, I'm pretty boring. Well, I guess I should say I'm boring to read about, but my life is pretty crazy. There's always something going on, on any given day, at any given time. That's just my life and how I'm used to living it.
So as a means of trying to bring you all something other than my nonsensical ramblings, I'll be hosting some authors on here as part of a blog tour. We'll be posting some information about them, their books and where to buy them. Feel free to comment and share. At the end of the tour, I'll have my own announcement and some awesome new stuff to show you guys.
Keep checking back! I'll be posting tour dates shortly...
Much love
