Ups and Downs

It's amazing how easy it is to get swept up in the day to day and forget about everything else. Before moving back in May, I had a relatively consistent schedule for writing and what not, but now it's all jumbled. The time is still there, the energy just isn't. Honestly, I don't really know what to do about that.

Some of my free time has been spent by just reading and catching up on books I've not had a chance to read in the last year. Another large portion of time has been spent with my hunny and the boys since it's summer break. Then, of course, the rest of my time I've been working. I need a schedule pretty badly, but I'm always tired and completely drained.

So, what to do? Clearly I'm just whining because the only one stopping me is me, but it just feels better to get it off my chest. If any of you have ever had a similar problem, how did you fix it? What techniques did you use to keep yourself on track? Any and all input will be greatly appreciated!

Falling Short

Today marks the day that I am officially back in action! I took some much needed time off, only working when I wasn't unpacking and/or working my 8-5 job. The last few months have been a whirlwind of excitement and sleepiness, but I think I've finally worked out the kinks. I know that I've been falling short lately (again), but I'm going to be working hard not to let that happen again. I haven't been reading much this last week, but I have been thinking about where to take my current stories and I think I have a pretty decent foundation. I am making it a point to have the first issue of Chasers out as soon as possible. I have to polish up some of the edges and do some quick edits and it should be good to go.

As for Fiery Secrets, I'm still shooting for a late Fall release. With my hiatus over, I am actually really excited about getting back into it and busting out some good stuff for you guys. I haven't been excited about it in a while because I was so busy all the time. That's when you know you need a break! I've never stopped completely, though. I've written a few chapters here or there and some other random bits, but I haven't sat down to work steadily. That is changing now!

Well, I'll be off to do some writing and set up some blogs for later this week. I will see you guys on the flip-side! :)

Beautiful Darkness {Review}

The first half of this book annoyed me. It wasn't that it was bad or poorly written, it was because the story was taking too long. There were obvious queues in the bulk of the book that didn't come to fruition until much later and I was borderline tearing my hair out while I waited for it all to happen. The wait was worth it, but I still would have enjoyed a bit of a faster pace.

Once I passed the annoying parts, I was finding myself rushing to the end. I definitely loved how the book ended and how all of those annoying strings finally tied together into a beautifully dysfunctional bow. I genuinely like Ethan, although I wish he'd be less of a boy sometimes! I don't know how thrilled I am to continue reading the series if the remaining books are as slow as this one was, but I'm going to muscle through anyway!

I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars!

Schmuck Am I!

Well, I missed all of my blog posts for last week. I know, wtf! Apparently, I have been enjoying some "time off" a little too much. So many things to do, not nearly enough time to do it all (or at least that's what I keep telling myself). I will have the rest of my blog posts for this week, since I'm making it a goal to be more active. I'm falling behind the pack!

I haven't had much time to write seeing as how I haven't made any, but I have been reading quite a bit. I'll have some book reviews to post over the next few days, too. On that same note, there've been some movies I've seen that I'll also be reviewing. I don't discriminate! I love many art forms!

I'm lame enough to think that one day I might get lucky enough to have a movie or TV show based (even loosely) off of one of my stories, so it's only fair that I continue to indulge myself in all of my passions. At least that's how I see it and I refuse to give in to my own reality!

Stay tuned for some teasers this week along with the reviews. I don't have one tonight, but there will be more to come. Either way, I haven't disappeared and I will be giving you all a chance to be sick of me again very soon!

Beautiful Creatures {Review}

I'm usually not one to jump on the "hype" band-wagon, but I was intrigued by what I'd heard about Beautiful Creatures . It took a little bit of time for me to get into the book, but once I dove in it was hard to put down. The only complaint I have about the book is that the constant descriptions of the narrow-minded view of the folks in Gatlin and how the main character views them became redundant. After hearing about it a few dozen times, the point is taken.

There was nothing about the story in itself that I would want to change. It's refreshing to have a different type of point of view than the normal paranormal books (yes, this also includes my own!). I love to read stories like this and learn different techniques for possible future projects. Anyway, I definitely give this book a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

P.S- The movie wasn't bad either! :)

More nonsensical ramblings

So it's 11pm and I should be in bed, but I've decided to get some last minute work in. Truthfully, I should have done all of this hours ago, but I was watching The Hobbit with the hunny and kids. Who can work while one of the best movies of the last year is playing next to their head? Anyway, I'm kinda excited about the serial project I have been working on. Initially, I was only going to post it in one spot, but I figured it would be better to post in numerous places for the added exposure. I also wish I knew a really good artist who could draw sketches for me, but I'm not so lucky.

The serial is a mix between Supernatural (the show on CW that I <3 oh so much) and maybe the X-Files. There is A LOT to this story that I don't even know yet, but I'm willing to show you all a little sneak peek. Follow the jump for the opening to Chasers!

As a
child, you might have been afraid of the dark. It might have stemmed from that
weird creepy-crawly feeling skidding over your skin while you sat in a room
alone. Or it could have been from seeing what looked like shadows dance across
the walls and ceiling, filling your chest with a suffocating feeling of fear.
Your parents would come in and check all of the normal places- under the bed or
in the closet- just to prove that nothing was there. You believed them and felt
a little better, but you still felt that icky tingle on the back of your
neck.

For
the most part, your parents were right. There wasn't anything under the bed or
in the closet and they couldn't see anything lurking around when they flipped on
the light. Sometimes you would even wave off the fear as childish and,
eventually, you'd forget why you were afraid in the first place. All would be
well and you'd snuggle under your covers and drift off to sleep.

The
truth isn't quite as easy to forget. Some of those children, and maybe even you,
were lucky enough to be afraid of the dark for a short time, only to realize
there really wasn't anything there. But there were some who weren't so lucky.
The darkness wasn't as innocent and the sickening feeling of dread never left
them. No, the truth is much more than a childhood fear. The truth is that there
are things lurking, watching and waiting. Those things feed off of the
fear of their victims and they have been waiting for the right time to attack.
If they catch your scent, they won't stop until they've consumed your
soul.

The
most heinous of soul-eaters are Shades. They look like shadows and naturally shy
away from the light. Shades are drawn to places of great despair or to broken
souls, but it is not unheard of for them to attach to a structure or person for
a long time, even after death or demolition. Where darkness is the blackest,
Shades are lurking.

Other
ghost-like creatures dwell among the Shades, picking off the souls left
untouched. Rogues, Apparitions, Demons, and countless others flood anywhere the
Shades have yet to go, waiting for their chance. For centuries, the beings of
darkness threatened the lives of all humans and non-humans alike. The night was
full of terror and no one went to bed without at least a lantern by their
heads.

From
this terror, warriors emerged. They were the bringers of light, wielding weapons
made to purify darkness and repel the evil it left behind. The warriors had many
names over time, but they preferred to be called Chasers. That was their job- to
chase away the darkness. Centuries evolved Chasers into something else entirely.
Not only are they the bringers of light, they are the children of angels set to
live among the humans to protect them from the evils they don’t even see.
They’re the only hope humanity has left in the war against
evil.

The joys of non-inspiration

I've been reading and thinking and attempting and reading some more, but words aren't flowing too easily for me right now. It could be the sense of constantly feeling like I'm forgetting something, or maybe my mind just needs a reset button, but so far nothing is working. Who knows? Maybe I just need to seriously sit back and think about the direction my writing is going and whether it's something I need to completely rethink (something I REALLY don't want to do).

By that last statement, I mean continuing Legacy of Secrets through 4 books as intended, or simply ending it with 3. I don't want to do that either, because I don't think I can truly finish the story in 3 books while at the same time not having the slightest clue how I'm going to get to book 4 at the current pace. Decisions, decisions.

So, on that note, I think I'm going to go to bed and think on this some more. I'll be setting up a serious schedule where I will add in more time to blog to myself (and whomever decides to read this) as well as writing time and marketing time. The excited part of my brain is beginning to lose steam and exhaustion is setting in. Blah!

Good night, lovelies and please don't hesitate to comment!

Settlin'

I am not settled in the new house, but not quite settled enough to have a regular routine. Often, I'm leaving the hunny to go to bed on his own while I squeeze out some time to write and network (I know, it's horrible!). But soon I will have a working schedule come hell or high water!

Some good news:

I've been getting great feedback on the beta testing of the new version of Cursed Secrets . I am waiting on two more betas to respond before I make any changes and publish. I will also be submitting the manuscript to a local news outlet for review and hopefully a story. THAT is truly the exciting part!

Work on Fiery Secrets is beginning to pick up. I have a good starting point and I've been working hard on getting the storyline down as well as listening to what the voices...er..I mean characters tell me. ;)

Recently, I've started a new project called Chasers . It will be a serial based on more of a supernatural front versus paranormal. I am trying to lean away from the romance side and try my hand at more action type work. (Gearing up for my next project...wink wink) I will be posting the serial on BookRix as it is a free reading site. I will link the posts from here for all to read and again...it's free!

Some bad news:

Legacy of Secrets is slowly coming to a close!

After Fiery Secrets , there will be a novella and one more full novel- and it will be the end! I've really loved these characters and this story, but all good things must come to an end (some wise person said, I think!). But, that also means that I will be able to move on to my next big project!

So, there you have it folks! Once I get my schedule down, I will be adding more to my blog on a more regular basis in hopes of broadening my reach and audience. Until next time!

What day is it???

After several days of moving into the new house, I ended up losing track of time- sort of. All of my days have run together like one long, very tiresome day. Tonight, I am getting back into the swing of things which is actually proving harder than I thought.

Prior to moving, I had no real schedule or means of time management. That made it very hard to work my day job, take care of the kiddos, go to school and write. Luckily, I have a very supportive boyfriend and he will do whatever he can to make sure I can stay on track with my goals. That's what it's all about, anyway.

So tonight, I think I will write for a while and then do some more house related stuff. I still plan to have to revamped Cursed Secrets released my the end of May. Since I'm close to being finished, I don't think that will be a problem. Who knows? Maybe this weekend will prove to be the most effective.

Toodles, folks!
